Motorola May Consider Tablet Customizable With Moto Maker

Motorola May Consider Tablet Customizable With Moto Maker

It has been over two years since Motorola launched a tablet, the Xoom 2 was its last foray into the highly competitive tablet market. The Google owned company kickstarted its smartphone business last year with the well-received Moto X as well as the highly affordable Moto G smartphone. The former debuted with Moto Maker, Motorola’s online studio that lets customers add their personal touch to the smartphone. Its possible that in the future Motorola might release a tablet that’s also customizable using Moto Maker, Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside says that the company is “looking at tablets.”

In a chat with the folks at Pocket-lint, the CEO revealed that “a lot of people” have asked them to build a tablet that’s compatible with Moto Maker, the online studio would let them customize their tablet. Woodside doesn’t rule out the possibility, saying that there might be a day in the future when the company does that. For now Motorola sees opportunity in the smartphone market and it wants to focus more on the “five billion people without smartphones.” Even though its committed to smartphones for now, the company seems to be willing to offer an option that no other manufacturer is offering right now, the ability to customize tablets. It remains to be seen just how long it takes for Motorola to throw its hat back into the ring again.

Moto Maker Will Be Launched In Latin America Next Year

Moto Maker Will Be Launched In Latin America Next Year

Alongside the Moto X smartphone, Motorola also launched its online smartphone customization studio called Moto Maker. Through the studio, customers can put an endless array of personal touches on their device, such as custom engravings and paint jobs. It was initially exclusive to AT&T subscribers before finally being opened up to all major U.S. carriers. At this point in time, Moto Maker is only available for customers in the U.S., however the company does have plans of expanding it beyond the States. Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside has said that Moto Maker is going to be expanded to several countries in Latin America next year.

Latin America is going to be the first international destination for Moto Maker because the Moto X is already being sold there and due to the fact that its sales are quite strong there. However, the full range of customization options will only be offered to customers located in Brazil and Argentina, as the company has some component facilities located in those countries. Customers in other parts of Latin America are likely to have fewer customization options, but hey, something is better than nothing at all. Woodside also hinted at the possibility of Moto Maker being expanded into Europe, though he didn’t offer a timeframe of when that might happen.

Moto Maker Finally Opens Up To All Major U.S. Carriers

Moto Maker Finally Opens Up To All Major U.S. Carriers

Over the past few weeks we have consistently been hearing rumors about Moto Maker, the online customization tool for Moto X, being opened up to all major carriers in the U.S. When the Moto X was announced back in August, Motorola revealed that Moto Maker will initially be exclusive to AT&T customers. The November 11th date was thrown around quite a lot, it was actually believed that only Verizon will get access to the customization tool on this date. However, Motorola has finally opened it up to Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon.

Just yesterday we saw a leaked screenshot which hinted that these three carriers will be getting Moto Maker access soon. Couple Moto Maker with the recent price cuts the Moto X has gotten on these major carriers, this is perhaps the right time to pick up a Moto X if you’ve been holding off on purchasing it. Through Moto Maker, customers can select custom colors for the device’s front edge and back plate as well as choose from a plethora of accents. Colored peripherals can be purchased as well through the tool, and last but not the least, customers can also add custom engraving on the back of their new Moto X. If you’re enticed enough to head down this road, don’t forget to check out our test run of Moto Maker.

Moto Maker Might Be Opened Up To All Major Carriers Soon

Moto Maker Might Be Opened Up To All Major Carriers Soon

Up till now the Moto Maker tool is exclusively available only for AT&T customers. It has long been rumored that the tool will be opened up to other carriers as well. Verizon customers were rumored to get access on November 11th, but so far no announcement has been made by the carrier as yet. T-Mobile and Sprint both have been rumored to get access as well, but nothing has been confirmed. Well known Twitter leaker @evleaks posted a new screenshot which shows that Moto Maker might soon be opened up to the remaining three major U.S. carriers.

Motorola announced the Moto Maker tool alongside the Moto X smartphone in August earlier this year. Through this tool, Moto X customers can put their own personal touches on their units. They can add engraving and choose from a variety of colors. As previously mentioned, the luxury has only been available to AT&T customers up till now. The screenshot posted by @evleaks lists all four major carriers, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint to be precise. While @evleaks hasn’t provided a concrete date, its quite likely that Moto Maker will be opened up for the other carriers in the near future. It remains to be seen though if the three carriers get access on the same day. Motorola hasn’t commented on the rumor as yet, and neither have the carriers broken their silence.

AT&T Moto X Now Costs $99 Through Moto Maker

AT&T Moto X Now Costs $99 Through Moto Maker

Earlier this month we reported that Best Buy had slashed the prices of Moto X on contract, merely after a month of it being launched. The Moto X is the first flagship smartphone that Motorola has produced as a Google company. It has decent specifications and has been a welcome addition in this year’s Android lineup. It was actually rumored back in September that prices of this smartphone will be dropped to $100 on contract, and we’ve seen that happen. Though now the Moto X is available for just $99 on contract through Moto Maker, the first time the price has dropped for the customizable variant.

That’s $99 on contract for the 16GB Moto X, 32GB one costs $149. Since Moto Maker is exclusive to AT&T right now, the two year contract can only be with AT&T if you want to customize your Moto X. Though it has already been said that Moto Maker will be opened up for other carriers. Rumor has it that Verizon customers may finally get Moto Maker on November 11th. If they do, then not only will they be able to pick up the device for $99, they’ll also be able to use over 2,000 customization options that Moto Maker offers to add their own unique touch to their Moto X smartphone.
