Moto Maker Reportedly Opens Up For Verizon On November 11th

Back when the Moto X smartphone was announced in August, Motorola also announced Moto Maker, which is basically an online studio that customers can use in order to add their own special cosmetic touches to their new Moto X. Up till now, Moto Maker has been exclusive to AT&T customers. If you want a custom Moto X, you must be willing to stick with AT&T for two years. It was said back then that Moto Maker would be opened up for other carriers as well down the road, and if @evleaks is to be believed, Verizon customers might finally be in luck on November 11th.

The infamous @evleaks has tweeted that Moto Maker will be coming to Verizon on the aforementioned date. If this turns out to be true, Moto X customers on Verizon will be able to customize their smartphone and have it shipped to them. Verizon itself hasn’t confirmed if this rumor is true. There are a number of cosmetic changes that customers can make. They can choose front, back and accent colors, choose storage option and matching accessories as well as add custom engraving. If you’re curious about how Moto Maker works, take a look at our detailed guide on how to use Moto Maker to customize your Moto X.

Unlocked Moto X Goes On Sale, Moto Maker Process Streamlined

When Motorola announced the Moto X earlier this month, it also unveiled Moto Maker, the online design studio that customers can use to add their personal touch to their new Motorola smartphone. Moto Maker is exclusive to AT&T customers right now, so customization options are only available to current and prospective AT&T customers. The carrier released Moto X on August 23rd, those who wanted to customize their device had to walk into an AT&T store, purchase a credit for the Moto X and then go back to their computer and use Moto Maker. Fortunately, the whole process has now been streamlined. Customers can now purchase and design their new device from the comfort of their couch.

That’s not all. Motorola also announced today that it is now selling unlocked Moto X for $579. The unlocked version can be purchased straight from Motorola itself. The Moto X will soon become available from other carriers as well, Verizon has announced that it releases Moto X on August 29th. We’ve already put the Moto Maker through its paces and have designed a custom Moto X. If you plan on doing the same, do take a look at our guide on how to use the design studio to create your very own unique smartphone.

    Moto Maker

Hankering for a new Moto X, are you? If you’re an AT&T loyalist (or just can’t figure out a way to slip out of your contract), the carrier has just published its launch details surrounding the most monumental Motorola handset in a decade. The vanilla black and white models will be available for sale starting August 23rd, with the 16GB version going for $199.99 on a two-year agreement and the 32GB variant for $249.99. (With AT&T Next, the 16GB model is available for $27 per month and the 32GB model is $32 per month.)

Moto Maker shipments will begin on 8/23 as well, with a “lucky few” who registered for early access able to get their orders started on the 19th. Moreover, AT&T will be stocking Skip, and all Moto Maker orders will include a Skip gratis for a limited time. If you’re curious to see what kind of crazy coloring options are at your disposal, we’re told that major (but not all) AT&T retail outlets will boast a table like the one shown above — decisions, decisions.

Moto Maker Hands On: Customizing a Moto X Is Pretty Easy, Very Fun

We have a feeling the new Moto X from Motorola/Google is going to be a hit. It looks great, it feels great, it’s fast, and it has added features that transcend the usual gimmickry. High on that list is Moto Maker, Motorola’s online customization suite that lets you order up a Moto X in any hue you choose. We got sneak peak at the service recently, and yes, it’s great (and easy).

Building a Moto X with Moto Maker (hands-on video)

    Moto X

We had a walkthrough with Motorola’s dedicated Moto X assembly site during the company’s launch event earlier this month, but we’ve since had a chance to log on and build our own device, selecting front, back and accent colors with a live preview updating along the way. Not much has changed since August 1st, but considering you’ll be walking out of an AT&T store with a $200 scratch-off card and a two-year contract, it’s worth taking another look at what you’ll find when you get home. Click past the break for our hands-on video to see what we managed to make.
