Watch Motorola’s “On Display” Android Press Event Replay in Full

motorola logo - Google Search

Motorola just wrapped up its press event detailing the Razr HD, Razr Maxx HD and Razr M Android phones, and now the full video is available for viewing via YouTube. At the very least, that’s better turnaround time than Apple usually manages for its event. So in case you didn’t check out Jordan’s terrific liveblog of all the action, or you just want to check out the weird live musical intro yourself, have a look.

My favorite part is probably the dig at Apple, the one about the size of a case required to get good battery life with an iPhone 4S which also manages to burn Mophie, maker of pretty top-notch power-related accessories for a variety of mobile devices – not just Apple’s. What’s yours?

Motorola Outs The Verizon-Bound DROID RAZR M, Launching On 9/13 For $99

razrmlive

Motorola’s new RAZR HD may be getting all the attention, but that’s definitely not all the company was planning to reveal today. As expected, the new (and Verizon-exclusive) RAZR M has just taken the stage here at the Motorola’s “On Display” event

It’s not like the device is any huge surprise — a handful of leaked images effectively spilled the beans earlier this month, and the @EvLeaks Twitter account let some press images fly just prior to the event — but there’s no such thing as too many phones, right?

As such, most of the details are already common knowledge, like the inclusion of a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display, a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon MSM8960 chipset, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, and an eight megapixel situated on the phone’s (Kevlar-clad) back. Despite its tiny frame, the RAZR M also sports a 2,000 mAh battery keeping in line with the power management philosophy that Motorola’s Dennis Woodside talked up earlier in the event. Of course, that’s not to say that Motorola has given up on its “durable” angle too — the now-standard Kevlar is a testament to that, as is the fact that the device’s display is coated with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass.

Speaking of the display, Motorola’s marketing materials make it seem as though may have been the edge-to-edge display device that Bloomberg reported on last week — the company refers to it as “the full screen phone.” Sure, it’s got some slim bezels, but I’m not sure they’re quite there yet.

Just like its big brothers the RAZR HD and RAZR MAXX HD, the Droid RAZR M is going to come pre-loaded with Chrome, though the on-stage demo didn’t quite pan out the way anyone had hoped. Unlike its brethren though, the RAZR M actually has a concrete release date — it’s going to hit Verizon store shelves on September 13 for $99 with a two-year contract.

Chrome Comes Pre-Installed On New Motorola Android Devices

Chrome - Android Apps on Google Play

Motorola just revealed that its new phones today will come with Chrome pre-installed. Traditionally, Android phones have come with different browsers, but never Google’s own, which officially came out on Google Play after an extended beta. At this event, Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside said they’d be the first devices with Chrome pre-installed, but the Nexus 7 also has that distinction.

Still, these will be the first phones with Chrome pre-installed, which is especially noteworthy because Google is now the parent company of Motorola Mobility, and people are wondering if that will result in a more native experience. Woodside also took a jab at Apple during the presentation, noting that both Google Maps and YouTube would come pre-installed, which they generally are on Android phones, but which they won’t be on Apple’s next iPhone as per the latest beta releases of iOS 6.

Eric Schmidt: “There Are Now 1.3 Million Android Device Activations Per Day”

Bam! Eric Schmidt just dropped bombshell number during the opening of Motorola’s “On Display” event. Giving context to the sheer size of Android’s growing ecosystem stated that there are now 1.3M Android devices activated each and every day. He added why Google needed Moto Mobility, “We have to play in this ecosystem. We have to be competitive and state of the art.”

Android is growing at a rapid pace. Last December there were 700k devices activated each day. Then, earlier this summer, that number was at 900k. One month later in late July it hit 1M. Now, in early September, there are 1.3M devices activated every single day.

Schmidt later added that there are close to 500 million Android devices worldwide right now. As comScore noted the other day, that’a factor of at least two or three times greater than the competitor.

Out of the 1.3M Android activations, 70k are just tablets, something that Schmidt acknowledged Google was late to embrace.

Motorola Officially Unveils The Droid RAZR HD And Droid RAZR MAXX HD

razrhdpress2

The Droid Razr HD has been spinning its way around the rumor mill for quite some time. But today, in rainy New York city at Gotham Hall, Motorola is officially unleashing the device on the world. Not only that, the RAZR MAXX HD (what a mouthful) was also unveiled for anyone who needs even more battery life.

The big thing (literally) we’re looking at a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED HD display, something that Motorola’s Rick Osterloh is currently on stage talking up. Motorola’s engineers worked to stretch the display to the device’s corners without actually increasing the device’s size. As expected, the RAZR HD also features a 1.5GHz dual-core processor (the same Snapdragon chip seen in the smaller RAZR M). Sadly, there’s no Jelly Bean to be found just yet — Woodside announced that the devices revealed today would get that much-vaunted update shortly.

The real story, however, is in the battery. Sure, the display is beautiful, and Motorola has been upping its screen game for the past few generations, but where Moto really made a splash was with the Droid Razr Maxx, which held a 3300mAh battery.

For a reference point, that’s more than double the current iPhone battery. Today, with the announcement of the Droid Razr HD, we’re also seeing that massive battery, which should last you through at least about 16 straight hours. It’s part of a bigger focus of Motorola’s on power management going forward, a stance espoused by Motorola Mobility CEO Dennis Woodside. Naturally, the heftier RAZR MAXX HD packs the same 3300 mAh battery as seen in the original RAZR MAXX, which equates to something like 21 hours of straight usage before having to recharge.

Sadly, there’s no Jelly Bean to be found just yet — Woodside announced that the devices revealed today would get that much-vaunted update shortly.
Motorola hasn’t yet disclosed a released for the two devices, though the company was quick to note that the device will launch before the holidays.
