Motorola DROID RAZR HD and RAZR MAXX HD officially announced

Motorola has just announced their hotly anticipated and new flagship Android smartphone here in NYC for the folks over on Verizon Wireless. After countless leaks this new DROID is finally official and comes packing a massive 2,530mAh battery for all day battery life. We’ve seen plenty of the DROID RAZR HD in the past month or so but head down below for the breakdown.

Motorola took the stage at their shared event with Verizon and quickly started off with how amazing the sales have been with their current RAZR line, then jumped into the evolution of the smartphone. This is the first event of this caliber since Google took over and named Dennis Woodside CEO so we are excited to see it all play out. Just as expected here’s all the details on the brand new Motorola DROID RAZR HD with 4G LTE and ICS.

Motorola’s hugely successful DROID RAZR didn’t come with an HD display which was quite disappointing but today however they’ve changed things up. This isn’t a massive improvement over the original but all the right places have been improved to offer a better experience. We knew they were coming but here’s the spec sheet. You get a beautiful and crisp 4.7-inch AMOLED HD display rocking a 1280 x 720p HD resolution — although will be sharing that space with dedicated on-screen Ice Cream Sandwich navigation buttons in favor of the outdated capacitive touch controls. This offers 73% more pixels than the previous RAZR. We love that Motorola has adopted this and hope the trend continues.

Then for the full round out we have Android 4.0.4 on board (Jelly Bean coming soon) powered by the extremely popular Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.5 GHz dual-core S4 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. The 13 MP rumors were false and Motorola has confirmed the camera on the rear is 8 megapixels — but have improved it in all areas. It offers zero shutter lag and burst mode which is a growing trend as of late. Just like previous generations Motorola has kept the durable and splash-guard Kevlar design standard. This keeps the phone thin, lightweight, and extremely durable.

While staying RAZR thin the DROID RAZR HD combines the sleek design of the original with a happy-medium 2,530 mAh battery under the hood. And whoa, Motorola also announced a DROID RAZR MAXX HD too. More details coming soon. Motorola has just started off the event today and have a few more announcements and a budget smartphone hiding around here somewhere. Stay tuned for more details, coverage, and hands-on pictures and video as soon as humanly possible.

Motorola DROID RAZR HD and RAZR M press photos leak

Just hours before their big reveal and announcement coming up later today, Verizon and Motorola‘s upcoming DROID RAZR smartphones have leaked. What we see below is the much anticipated Motorola DROID RAZR HD on the right, then the newly revealed budget-friendly RAZR M on the left. Sadly we aren’t seeing any edge-to-edge display like some earlier reports suggested.

The increasingly popular Twitter account @evleaks is giving us our first official look at both the DROID devices a few hours before Motorola is set to take the stage and announce them themselves. We already know plenty about both devices at this point, so this is just icing on the cake before the big reveal.

The Motorola DROID RAZR HD is their new flagship device obviously sporting an HD display. Which is 1280 x 720p and will of course be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Again for those that aren’t familiar this new 4G LTE device for Verizon Wireless comes with a 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB of RAM, and will be the new top tier DROID for at least a few months as Motorola aims to slow down their release timeline. We’ll know all the additional details soon.

Then the newer of the two which has been getting a lot of attention the past few weeks is the newly teased DROID RAZR M which manages to keep most of the specs but cost less. The RAZR M has everything you love about the DROID RAZR only it offers a blend between the original, and the new RAZR HD. You’ll get a 4.3-inch qHD display instead of HD coming in at 960 x 540 resolution, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and that same sleek RAZR thin design. Again we know everything there is on these already so hit the various links below to get started. Stay tuned as we’re live in NYC for the official announcement coming up in just a few short hours.

Motorola DROID RAZR HD international edition shows up at FCC

A global edition of the oft-leaked Motorola DROID RAZR HD (XT925) has just been granted FCC approval, likely surprising nobody at all. Motorola is widely expected to unveil Verizon’s version of the DROID RAZR HD – XT926 – at a press conference on September 5, so it makes sense that an international edition of the device would follow shortly afterward. This FCC approval seems to confirm that the DROID RAZR HD is an actual thing, but then again, the various leaks already did a pretty good job of that.

The filing shows that the international DROID RAZR HD comes complete with LTE radios for bands 4 and 17. While that may make you immediately think of AT&T, Engadget points out that the carrier probably won’t be getting this version of the DROID RAZR HD, thanks to the recent launch of the Atrix HD. Instead, the RAZR HD’s use of band 4 AWS LTE probably means that the handset will be a hit in Canada, so Motorola can likely count on some attention there.

The latest leaks and rumors tell us that the DROID RAZR HD will come with a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED Advanced Display, a 3-megapixel front-facing camera to compliment the 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a dual-core MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 processor to power it all. The handset supposedly comes running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwhich out of the box, and we’ve seen pictures of RAZR HD models with various differences – for instance, some of the leaked pictures show a Kevlar backing, while others show the device without the Kevlar.

Whatever the appearance of the finished product, one version of the RAZR HD has popped up at the FCC. If this device exists, we should be finding out more about it in just a couple of days, which is pretty exciting. Keep it tuned here to SlashGear for more information, and have a look at our story timeline below for the latest DROID RAZR HD leaks.

Motorola Droid RAZR M 4G LTE appears with silver trim

It’s time again to see the next Verizon 4G LTE device before its official launch as another leaked photo appears to be bringing along with it one more glimpse of the sharp-looking Droid RAZR M 4G LTE in silver. Of course if you take into account that the previous versions of the DROID RAZR were made in “white” trim, you might be thinking that this device is bringing on white – it’s all up to your vision at this point as no official word has been dropped. This device has also had some specifications leaked with it just yesterday for your perusal.

The images you see above were leaked to Engadget by an unnamed supplier of leaked images and does indeed seem to be quite legitimate looking. If you’ll have a peek at the previous leak you’ll find that the Droid RAZR M also has a black color scheme like the DROID RAZR. This device is more than likely set for both of these colors for launch time which will be approaching quite soon, we must assume.

This device has been tipped to be carrying a dual-core dual-core MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 processor and it’s display will be a lovely 4.3-inch qHD (960 x 540) Super AMOLED Advanced. It’ll be popping up with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and will have a 8 megapixel camera on its back. The front will have a camera as well, in this case a 3 megapixel beast of a shooter able to take 720p video as well.

This smartphone will have many of the same protections that recent Motorola devices have had including splash coating on its innards and Kevlar weave backing over the battery. Like recent Motorola devices as well, we’re not expecting to see a replaceable battery here, this allowing the manufacturer to make the device much thinner than it otherwise would have been able. Keep your eyes to the Motorola tag to see where this is all going, and expect a release in early September – the 5th, to be exact!

Droid RAZR M 4G LTE leaked with photos and info

It appears that Motorola’s big smartphone secret may have been revealed just a few days early with the Verizon-bound Droid RAZR M 4G LTE. This device has been unceremoniously leaked to Engadget with hardware photos, specifications galore, and indications that this device will rival all other Motorola handsets to date. Starting with a dual-core MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 processor and coming on strong with a 4.3-inch qHD (960 x 540) Super AMOLED Advanced display, we’ll be more than pumped up to see this beast in real life early next month in New York.

This device looks quite similar to the original DROID RAZR revealed several months ago and out on the market with Verizon right this minute. It’s said here to have an 8 megapixel camera on the back with single LED flash and the ability to take 1080p video. The front-facing camera is said to be a 3 megapixel photo-taker with what’s more than likely going to be 720p video – that’s hefty for a front-facing camera, needless to say.

The display on this device appears to be quite similar to what we’ve just seen on the Motorola Photon Q, a device quick certainly does have some sharp and bright magic to it. Have a peek at our Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE review for a close look at that business. Then back with the Droid RAZR M 4G LTE, it appears that we’ll be working with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich right out of the box and full GSM / UMTS / HSPA+ global roaming to keep us connected worldwide.

Inside you’ll find 8GB of built-in storage, and there’s a microSD card port that’ll potentially hold a 32GB card. The display here shows that you’ll be working with a virtual set of home menu keys, much like the Atrix HD and, again, the Photon Q). This is likely the influence of Google owning the company now, making with the Galaxy Nexus influence, if you know what we mean.

This smartphone will follow in the footsteps of the rather light and thin DROID RAZR, here having a weight of 4.44 ounces and ending up being just a BIT thicker overall. Up front they’ve protected this device with the newest and hottest – Gorilla Glass 2. Now the real question is this – will this be the one and only smart device revealed by Motorola next month on the 5th at their special event in New York? Or will there also be a device called the Droid RAZR HD? Stay tuned and find out soon!

Motorola DROID RAZR HD tutorial videos briefly leaked

The Motorola DROID RAZR HD has been leaked time and time again, with Verizon holding an event on September 5th that should see an official announcement for the device. Anyone quick on their feet last night may have spotted some leaked tutorial videos on YouTube that showed users how to get to grips with the device. The actual tutorials were fairly standard, but the videos did show off some details of the device that have been alluded to in past leaks and rumors.

First, the user interface isn’t too far removed from what we’ve seen on recent Motorola devices like the Atrix HD. It’s mostly stock Ice Cream Sandwich, but Motorola has skinned a few elements here and there in addition to adding some new functionality. The design of the handset, meanwhile, mimics the current DROID RAZR, but most notably Motorola has ditched the capacitive keys underneath the display and opted for Android’s onscreen buttons.

The device is never referred to as the DROID RAZR HD in the videos, however, instead marked with the XT926 moniker that’s been referenced in the past. Unfortunately, the videos have been pulled: whoever originally uploaded the tutorials has since closed their YouTube account, nuking the videos in the process. If you want any more details, you’ll have to sit tight like the rest of us until September 5th.

Previous reports suggest that the DROID RAZR HD will feature a 4.6-inch 720p display along with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor clocked at 1.5Ghz. It’s not known how much internal storage the device will have, but it will come with a microSD card slot for cards up to 32GB. An eight megapixel camera will apparently be onboard along with an expanded battery carrying a capacity of 2,530mAh.

Motorola event invite set for HD device delivery

Looking forward to the start of next month, Motorola has set an event for the 5th of September with a high definition device for us to look at and adore. This device is teased by the title of the invite card “Motorola. On Display.” and will be ready to rock in colorful New York City, New York. We must assume that this will be the Motorola RAZR HD, a smartphone with a display that’s got more pixels than your retinas could ever hope to handle.

This event will be held in collaboration with Verizon, so we must assume that the name DROID will also be in the mix. This type of event generally reveals a set of devices or one single hero device, and in this case, we’re betting on the second option. Motorola is ready to keep with the trend of boosting their Android-toting wares upward with pixels on screen, and now we’re hoping the innards come with on the ride as well.

Verizon is one of several carriers also tipped to be receiving shipment of another hero device from the likes of Apple next month, so we must also assume that Motorola wants to make this launch happen as quickly and as smoothly as possible. Expect a device, again likely called DROID RAZR HD, to be coming to the carrier before mid-month, 4G LTE in tow.

Stick around the main news feed here on SlashGear or dive in to our Motorola portal to see if you can put the puzzle pieces together here before the main event. Motorola is itching to release a new smartphone and/or tablet, and you can bet it’ll be bringing on a display that’s sharper than we’ve ever seen delivered from them before. Stay tuned!

Motorola DROID RAZR HD specs tipped

Yesterday, a report surfaced detailing that Motorola was planning to launch the DROID RAZR HD in conjunction with Verizon in October. The launch would be contingent on the sales numbers of the DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX, however, with the companies needing to clear inventory before launching a new model. On top of that, it was believed that Motorola was also working on a RAZR MAXX HD, but PhoneArena has heard from a tipster that there are no such plans.

Previous reports tipped the RAZR HD for a 13-megapixel camera, but PhoneArena’s source denies the camera boost, saying that the standard eight megapixel offering will be there instead. On top of that, the phone will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor clocked at 1.5Ghz, the same chip that’s found in the US versions of the Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X.

The internal storage size of the device isn’t known, but a microSD card slot will definitely be included, says the source. The battery, however, won’t have the rumored 3,300mAh capacity, instead falling somewhere in the region of 2,530mAh, but that’s still a nice boost compared to the batteries found in other smartphones. Tthe tipster confirms that previous leaked pictures of the handset are accurate, with the device featured a patterned kevlar back once again.

Finally, the screen size is said to come in at 4.6-inches, featuring the same 720p resolution and ColorBoost tech used on the Atrix HD, lining up nicely with previous rumors. If leaked pictures from earlier in the year are to be believed, Motorola will also ditch the four capacitive keys under the screen, instead opting for the on-screen buttons used in Ice Cream Sandwich. The handset will ship with ICS, but an update to Jelly Bean is expected “sometime in 2013.”

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: August 14, 2012

Welcome to Tuesday, folks. It was a busy day today, and there’s plenty of news to cover, so let’s get right into it. It appears that the worldwide mobile phone market is falling a little bit year-over-year, and the Motorola DROID RAZR HD might be launching sometime in October. Fisker is currently at work investigating the fire that claimed one Karma EV over the weekend, and we received word of another EV catching fire during the Pikes Peak Hill Climb that took place in Colorado this past weekend as well.

A new Apple patent was uncovered today, just in time for the rumored reveal of the new iPhone, and Groupon has released its financial report for quarter 2. It seems that Toshiba is backing out of the Windows RT tablet market, and the Samsung SGH-T899 Windows Phone was confirmed to be heading to T-Mobile. We also reminded you check in with us here at SlashGear tomorrow for coverage of Samsung’s press event, which is where many are expecting the company to show off the Galaxy Note 10.1. In other words, you don’t want to miss it.

It was all about tech and gadgets in the morning, but this afternoon, SlashGear became SlashGames, as Electronic Arts and Sony both gave their pre-Gamescom press conferences. There were a lot of things to talk about too, with Electronic Arts announcing Battlefield 3 Premium Edition and letting loose Dead Space 3‘s release date. Registration for the upcoming SimCity beta is underway, Activision gave us our first taste of Black Ops Declassified gameplay, and Sony pulled the veil back on some new PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale characters. That wasn’t all though, as Sony also gave us a release date for the first PSOne Classics on PS Vita during the press conference, and gave us the first trailer for Guerrilla’s upcoming Killzone: Mercenary.

We were thinking for a little while that Valve would reveal Half-Life 3 during Gamescom, but the studio was quick to quash those rumors, and Sony announced a new PlayStation Mobile initiative for iOS and Android, so keep an eye out for that. One very brave thief tried to steal $60,000 worth of computers from Steve Jobs’ home, but was unsuccessful in his efforts, and new rumors are telling us that Apple has been forced to lay off some its Apple Store employees in the UK. The Acer TravelMate P243 notebook PC was revealed today, complete with Intel’s Ivy Bridge microarchitecture, and the Samsung Galaxy S III might be getting an update to Jelly Bean toward the end of the month. Finally tonight, RIM says that BlackBerry 10 will be ready for licensing soon, and the Curiosity rover sent back another image for that massive 130-picture panorama of the surface of Mars. Be sure to give that a look.

That does it for today’s evening wrap-up, so go out and enjoy the rest of your evening!

Motorola DROID RAZR HD expected in October

Motorola disappointed some fans when it didn’t reveal a new smartphone last week, initially teasing onlookers via its Facebook page with a mystery LTE enabled Motorola phone. Still, leaks and reports have suggested that the DROID RAZR HD is coming, and now a source speaking to Hot Hardware has indicated that the handset should finally arrive in time for October. Not only that, but it will be joined by the DROID RAZR MAXX HD, offering substantially better battery life.

According to the source, Motorola plans on releasing the two handsets in October after it has managed to move enough DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX phones. The launch of the new devices seems contingent on sales of the current phones, so Motorola may still push back the launch if it hasn’t shifted enough units in time.

Specs for the handsets couldn’t be confirmed, but it’s expected that both will come with 720p screens, with the MAXX HD featuring a larger capacity battery, bringing additional thickness with it as well. Past reports have suggested that the DROID RAZR HD will come with a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor instead of a Texas Instruments OMAP chip. In addition, the handset will be LTE ready on Verizon’s network, with a similar design to the current DROID RAZR.

The DROID RAZR HD will also have world-roaming capabilities, taking advantage of HSPA+ networks in other countries. A recent leak showed that the phone was being tested on Vodafone, and other information suggests that the phone will carry the same 3,300mAh battery as the RAZR MAXX, making us wonder what kind of battery the RAZR MAXX HD will have if such a device exists.
