Unannounced Motorola Moto X likely spotted in the hands of Google’s Eric Schmidt

Motorola X likely spotted in the hands of Google's Eric Schmidt

During the winter, Sun Valley is known for its skiing. This time of the year, however, it’s quickly becoming a tech hotspot as some of the industry’s top execs gather together at the annual Allen and Co media conference. Among the attendees is Google’s Eric Schmidt, who brought along a mystery Motorola phone and couldn’t resist showing it off. While Schmidt couldn’t “comment on the nature of this phone,” according to Variety’s Rachel Abrams, it certainly didn’t stop him from giving everyone a sneak peek. Multiple images of the device, which appears to feature a carbon fiber-like back and sleek curves, popped up on Twitter from the likes of Gary He and Taylor Wimberly. As it doesn’t match the leaked pictures of the upcoming Droid Ultra or Maxx — but carries an uncanny resemblance to the leaks and FCC diagrams we’ve seen of the X already — we’re guessing this is the legendary smartphone in the flesh; and judging by Schmidt’s willingness to flaunt it, it’s quite likely that we won’t have to wait much longer before we see even more of it. There’s one more shot of the device from the top past the break.

An American Tech Company Is Advertising Its American-Built Smartphone On The Most American Holiday

motox

Happy Independence Day, fellow Americans! It’s time to go to the lake, eat some red meat, and, of course, buy a cell phone from a good ol’ American company, Motorola and Google.

Motorola is running a full-page spread in the July 3 editions of The New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post. And it’s all for the upcoming, and very American, Motorola X smartphone.

As the ad clearly states, this is an American phone from an American company. After all Motorola is as American as country music and type-2 diabetes.

Once upon a time Motorola stood tall as a beacon of American ingenuity and prosperity. Founded in 1928 in Illinois, the company lead the world in mobile technology for decades. Motorola put audio in cars. Motorola went to the Moon. Motorola made the cell phone.

Then came the Motorola RAZR, a clamshell phone that went on to be the best selling flip phone in history, but also marking the beginning of the end. Motorola is now an empty vestigial of its former self, existing as two entities: one within Google and another part as a telecommunications provider.

There is not much known about the upcoming Motorola X smartphone. So far several leaked pics showed a rather pedestrian smartphone with modest specs — nothing that’s anything better than products from Samsung or Apple. But hopefully, now a full year after Google scooped up Motorola’s consumer division, the two companies have slow-cooked something rather tasty.

And as someone from a dead middle America factory town, it’s amazing to watch the manufacturing come back to America.

Dell never completely left Texas. Lenovo recently set up shop in North Carolina. Apple is reopening US-based factories formerly shuttered when overseas manufacturing was in vogue. But please, I beg you, consumer electronic companies, do not make a mundane product, slap a Made In America sticker on the back and pawn it off on unsuspecting Americans. Americans and American companies can build world-class products so please do nothing less.

Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie Release At Google I/O Reportedly Delayed

Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie Release At Google I/O Reportedly Delayed

A lot has already been rumored about Google’s I/O conference. It is believed that the company will announce a revamped Nexus 7 and a 32GB LTE Nexus 4 instead of a next generation Nexus 5 smartphone. Google was also expected to announce the next major Android platform update, Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. Its release has now reportedly been delayed by as much as four months to give ample time to OEMs so that they can keep up with the new Android version.

Another reason for this delay could be the launch of Motorola X smartphone. The company’s top executives have sung its praises, perhaps they’ll merge both announcements together? At the moment 29.3% of Android devices are powered by Ice Cream Sandwich, in second place comes Jelly Bean which powers some 23% devices. Pushing back the Key Lime Pie release will aid both OEMs and Google itself. Despite being announced at last year’s I/O, many manufacturers and carriers are still rolling it out to Jelly Bean deprived customers. Launching a new version would further increase the fragmentation, and if this rumor is anything to go by, Google looks intent on avoiding that.

New Nexus 7 Tablet Google I/O Release Rumored

New Nexus 7 Tablet Google I/O Release Rumored

Google will be making quite a few announcements at the I/O conference. The company will unveil Android’s next major platform update, version 5.0 or Key Lime Pie. It is also expected make hardware announcements, though recent rumors suggest that it won’t be unveiling Nexus 5 or Motorola X. Rather it will be announcing a Nexus 4 with 32GB storage and 4G LTE. Now it is being speculated that the company will unveil a revamped Nexus 7 tablet at its event.

The new Nexus 7 tablet will reportedly be released in July. It is rumored to have a full HD display, a slimmer bezel design, Wi-Fi and cellular capabilities. Some rumors also suggest that Google will swap the Nexus 7′s existing NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. Revamped Nexus 7 is expected to retain its current price point of $199. Like before, the device will be manufactured by Asus. The slight changes in design will make this tablet thinner and lighter than before. This would give it an extra edge in the market which is literally overflowing with 7-inch tablets from a wide variety of manufacturers, a thin and light footprint coupled with Android OS will set the Nexus 7 apart beautifully.

Nexus 5 And Motorola X Reportedly Won’t Be Unveiled At Google I/O

Nexus 5 And Motorola X Reportedly Wont Be Unveiled At Google I/O

Yesterday I reported on a rumor that Google will be announcing a 32GB 4G LTE capable Nexus 4 at the I/O conference. When the Nexus 4 was originally launched late last year, it did not offer the higher storage space and LTE compatibility. If Google isn’t planning on releasing a successor just yet then it makes sense to release a tweaked Nexus 4, because almost all premium smartphones offer these features. Today our attention is brought towards a new rumor which claims that both Nexus 5 and Motorola X smartphone won’t be unveiled at Google I/O.

We’ve heard a lot recently about Motorola X smartphone, Eric Schmidt says that its phenomenal and CEO Larry Page hinted that Motorola’s upcoming smartphones might be unbreakable. It is possible that the X smartphone won’t be unveiled at I/O, only last week it was rumored that Motorola X release has been pushed back till August. As far as the Nexus 5 is concerned, there hasn’t been much chatter about it recently. Perhaps Google is aiming for a fall launch of its next generation Nexus smartphone. Let me remind you that all of this is based on rumors, take this with a grain of salt.

Eric Schmidt Touts New Motorola Products As Phenomenal

Eric Schmidt Touts New Motorola Products As Phenomenal

Motorola has been under Google’s belt ever since 2011 when it was acquired for $12.5 billion, yet both companies have not come up with a line of devices that can cause a stir in the market. Recent reports indicate that the company is developing an entire line of smartphones called Motorola X. There have also been reports of Motorola developing ‘just right’ sized smartphones with unadulterated version of Android, which will offer an unmatched Android experience. Google Chairman Eric Schmidt definitely has confidence in the company, saying that their new products are “phenomenal.”

While not commenting on exactly what types of devices Motorola is working on, he says that they should be thought of as “phones plus,” and that people should wait on Motorola to see the next generation of technology. “Very, very impressive” is what he had to say about these upcoming devices. The design chief at Motorola recently said that they won’t be taking part in any spec wars, rather they’ll be focusing on providing the best consumer experience. The new devices are expected to be revealed in the second half of 2013.
