Brookstone Scanner Mouse

A mouse is a mouse, but the Brookstone Scanner Mouse clearly throws you such typical, conventional thinking out of the window. This computer mouse will not only help you navigate your cursor to where you want it to, but it also comes with an integrated scanner which will not only save space but time as well, delivering an unprecedented flexible manner of scanning files. All you need to do is hold the Smart Scan button on the left side of the mouse, glide the mouse freely over any document in whatever pattern you choose, and the software will then stitch the scanned images into one on the display, as though by magic.

It does not matter whether you want to scan photos, artwork or receipts, gliding it over will get the job done. You can opt to save your images in a range of files such as JPEG, TIFF, PNG, BMP, XLS, DOC and PDF, where these can subsequently be uploaded to sites like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr or email in a jiffy. Not only that, the implementation of LG’s Optical Character Recognition technology will help you convert scanned text to editable Microsoft Word or Excel files automatically. The Brookstone Scanner Mouse scans documents and images up to 16.5″ x 11.7″ in size at high-resolution 320 dpi, and you can bring one home for $99.99.

Mad Catz RAT mice get three new paint schemes just in time for the holidays

Ever since Batman popularized the matte finish with his snazzy Batsuit, product designers have gone Bat-crazy over the finish choice. Today, Mad Catz pushes back on that new normal, re-introducing its R.A.T. line of gaming mice in three new, glossy colors: white, red, and (yes, another) black. That includes the entire R.A.T. line, from the R.A.T.3 to the M.M.O.7 and everything in between. And those new colors are already available from Mad Catz, anxiously awaiting wrapped boxes and new computers equipped with XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Oh the sectoids you’ll kill!

Thanko Wearable Mouse: Minor Minority Report

With TVs getting smarter and computers getting smaller, Internet-connected TVs and home theaters will only become more common. So will peripherals designed to be used for couch computing, like this wireless glove mouse from Thanko.

thanko wearable gesture mouse

This silly gadget lets you control a cursor with the movements of your wrist. Two buttons worn on the index finger substitute for the left and right mouse buttons. I know, it looks like a prop from 90′s sci-fi B-movie, but it actually works:

Thanko is selling the wearable mouse for ¥4,980 (~$62 USD). Although the video makes it seem like a fairly useful product, I think the best way to control smart TVs would be to leverage tablets and smartphones with a keyboard/trackpad app. I think using something like this one would be tiring after a while.

Gesture Glove Mouse

Japan does come out with some weird and quirky inventions from time to time, and perhaps you might want to quantify the Gesture Glove Mouse as one of them, being made available via Thanko. Wearing this is not going to keep your fingers and hand warmer during the coming bitter winter, but at least it lets you feel as though you are a Jedi Knight – for a while, anyways, as you wear the Gesture Glove Mouse to control a computer or an Android-powered device via the wonders of hand gestures alone.

Retailing for approximately $61.87 after conversion, you will wear the Gesture Glove Mouse on your right hand (southpaws will miss out on this product since it was specially made only for right handed folks at this point in time), where the strap on the connected sensor will be hooked to their index finger. The glove is capable of reading your wrist movements, translating that into cursor movements. Want to click on an icon or menu option? Just use your thumb and index finger. It works wirelessly, and has a maximum working range of 10 meters. A single hour of charging over USB will deliver up to a dozen hours of use, now how about that?

Roccat launches Kone XTD and Pure models

German computer peripherals manufacturer Roccat is most famous for their range of gaming mice and keyboards, and this time around, they have introduced a couple of new models for the masses – the Roccat Kone XTD and Pure models. Both mice will continue to retain the famous Kone form factor, features as well as performance, where the Roccat Pure will boast of a profile that is 9% slimmer than before while sporting a new Roccat Titan Wheel and Click Master switch tech. Hey, if you are in the market for a new mouse (or two), you might as well see what Roccat has to offer and who knows, it might just prove to be a union with your hand that you will not regret.

The Roccat Kone XTD has been dubbed by some to be the “Max Customization Gaming Mouse”, while the Roccat Kone Pure is known as the “Core Performance Gaming Mouse”, where both of the new mice should have already hit Europe since October 26th onwards, while folks living in North America as well as Asia will only be on the receiving end of them before December rolls around.

In terms of performance, we are looking at world beaters here, where you will be able to experience a fully-adjustable 8200 DPI ProAim R3 laser sensor that boasts of a whopping 41 DPI settings that range from 200 to 8200, in addition to a 32-bit Turbo Core V2 72MHz ARM MCU processor, 576KB of on-board memory, as well as what Roccat deems to be the most advanced Tracking & Distance Control Unit in the world. All of the components are said to function in clockwork unison, delivering the world’s most impressive speed, control and accuracy. Of course, all of the above mentioned might just be marketing speak, and even if it is true, you will still need to give either mouse a test run before you agree with the conclusions.

After all, a gaming mouse is a very personal piece of equipment, and different gamers play games differently, so the way they wield their mice is not the same as the gamer sitting next to them.

Scanner Mouse does more than just point-and-click

The average office drone would hardly go through more than a couple of mice throughout his or her tenure in the same company, as these are generally hardy devices. I suppose the last leap in technology the average office made in the past decade was to move on from trackball to optical mice. Well, the $99.99 Scanner Mouse might just prove to be the impetus for yet another round of change in the office. Not only does this bad boy point, scroll and click, it is also able to scan certain segments of a particular document without having to install a full sized scanner at your desk.

Bear in mind the Scanner Mouse is unable to do whole sheets of A4 paper, but rather, you will need to manually glide it over documents. So if you are game for some light scanning without the need to do page after page of scans, then this is the ideal tool for you. OCR technology will also help convert scanned text for editing purposes. The Scanner Mouse is capable of scanning documents as large as 16.5″ x 11.7″ in high-resolution 320dpi.
