On my way to the theater, I asked Siri about the movie Her, and she got confused. "What kind of businesses are you looking for?" Siri replied in her always off-kilter robotic murmur. I barked back some line about Siri being stupid. She cracked some stupid joke. And my phone went back into my pocket.

There isn’t very much human about Jobs, Ashton Kutcher’s Steve Jobs biopic. It’s about Steve Jobs working more than it is about Steve Jobs’ work. And that’s probably about as unintentionally fitting a character portrait as you’ll find—just not always an entertaining one.

One of the most important things any great action movie needs is a lead actor who can deliver an absurd line and have it sound awesome. One who makes you cheer instead of laugh when he says something that is by all rights laughable. Pacific Rim doesn’t have one of those. But it still manages to be the best summer action movie since Independence Day.
