Thank you Lord baby Jesus… (and god bless the pygmies.) Ricky Bobby’s tracksuit from the movie Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is up for auction via a movie memorabilia company called ScreenUsed. The suit is an actual Sparco racing suit worn by professional racers, or in this case, Will Ferrell, when he played NASCAR racer Ricky Bobby.
It includes the Puma shoes Ferrell wore in the film as well as the Wonder Bread hat. If a racing suits isn’t your thing, this company is also putting up a ton of other awesome and geeky movie props and memorabilia in an auction to be held on November 3, 2012, which also includes some fun screen-used Star Trek and Star Wars items.
Other items up for auction include Neo’s coat from The Matrix Revolutions, Jayne Cobb’s Vera machine gun from Firefly, and even the Superman bodysuit Christopher Reeve wore in Superman III. You can even pick the gold jumpsuit with cape that Mike Myers wore in Goldmember – complete with padded crotch. There is a lot of other stuff in the auction too. I can’t decide if I want Ricky Bobby’s diving suit or the endoskeleton chest from Terminator 2: Judgment Day the most.
Ricky Bobby’s outfit is expected to fetch between $4,000 and $6,000 (USD).
If you’re a big fan of movies and television, undoubtedly you have some of your favorite shows that may or may not be on the air anymore. A lot of people out there would love to own a prop used in one of their favorite movies or TV shows, and you can do just that. A company called ScreenUsed has announced a new auction that will be conducted on Saturday, November 3 of this year packed with cool props.
The auction has a huge number of items that were used on the screen in some of the most popular movies and television shows out there. If you ever want to own Jayne Cobb’s Vera machine gun from the series Firefly, here is your chance. The auction in November has a lot of other cool stuff as well.
Other interesting items that will be on auction include a Wink costume from the flick Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Neo’s coat from The Matrix Revolutions, and an even a production used clapperboard from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. While all that stuff is cool, those aren’t the most interesting items to me.
One of the most interesting items in the auction is the full racing suit worn by Will Ferrell in Talladega Nights. The racing suit is a customized Sparco racing suit worn by Ferrell along with the Wonder Bread hat and puma shoes. Another of the supremely cool items on display is a full endoskeleton chest from Terminator 2: Judgment Day. There are also multiple Star Trek uniforms and props as well as the Superman bodysuit worn by Christopher Reeve in Superman III.
Samsung just sweetened the streaming video pot for current and would-be owners of its modern Smart TVs. Viewers who’ve been craving Amazon Instant Video can download an app today to watch movies and TV shows through their 2012 set’s internet link, in the event options for Blockbuster, Hulu Plus, Netflix and Vudu weren’t already enough. It’s not necessarily a cut-and-dried port, either — Samsung is flaunting a redesigned interface tuned for big-screen distances and quick access to queuing, recommendations and captioning. Amazon junkies who wanted a larger canvas than their Kindle Fire HD now can’t get much larger.
If the bizarre 18s teaser-trailer for Iron Man 3 whet your appetite – basically a trailer for a trailer – then you’ll definitely be wanting to head beyond the cut to see the full trailer for the upcoming Marvel movie. Seeing Robert Downey Jr. reprise his role as Tony Stark, Iron Man 3 pits the eponymous hero against The Mandarin, played by Ben Kingsley, who – if the trailer is anything to go by – seems determined to blow everything up.
That includes Stark and his wife Pepper Potts, with Gwyneth Paltrow returning to gather some new bruises as she’s apparently violently kidnapped. Val Kilmer and Don Cheadle are also on the star list.
“With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him” Marvel says of the film. “As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?”
It’s all textbook superhero-movie stuff, but that doesn’t mean we’re not excited. There’s plenty of time to build up enthusiasm, too, with the movie not expected to open in theaters until April 2013.
You’re a lucky person if you’re looking for a teaser of a teaser for Iron Man 3, because Marvel has just blasted us all directly in the face with 17 seconds of video you’ll never forget. This teaser trailer is a teaser of a teaser – strange as that may be – with visions of a new inverted Iron Man suit, the back of Ben Kingsley’s head, and lots of inception “BWOM” feelings with electronic buzzing blasts in the audio department. Needless to say, this trailer doesn’t exactly tell us a whole lot.
What you will see is the look of this new film, starting with the suit as it appears above. This suit will undoubtedly bring Iron Man some new set of odd powers and will work with the fabulous new abilities (and less some Tony Stark-killing elemental damage) as seen in the Avengers. You’ll also get a very brief glimpse at the new villain here Mandarin – as played by Ben Kingsley.
It’s being hypothesized by the fan underground that Iron Man 3 will include at least one of the Infinity Gems. These gems are all-powerful next-level power-packed artifacts that, when combined, create the Infinity Gauntlet – this ties in with the cut-scene that appears at the end of the Avengers movie. Here in Iron Man 3, we’ll likely lead up in to a set of several other one-off movies with the Avengers on their own, crowned off by another Avengers in a bit over a year.
Pepper Potts appears here again played by Gwyneth Paltrow in a situation that’s obviously causing her a great deal of pain. The gold Iron Man suit can be seen powering up for a blast and flying towards a swarm of flying armors not unlike his own. The whole video fades in and out with black – and it’s so very epic! But it’s only a teaser, and the real deal will be out tomorrow – can’t wait!
Outdoor cinemas were all the rage in the past, and it looks like they’re making a grand comeback. I’m not talking about drive-in theaters though. Rather, I’m talking about the Hot Tub Cinema.
Yeah, the pictures don’t lie. The Hot Tub Cinema is a traveling screening event that’s currently making the rounds in East London, and it looks like it’s been a huge hit so far. I mean, who doesn’t want to watch a movie while taking a bath with hundreds of other strangers, right?
This particular one was held on the rooftop of Netil360, where classics like Top Gun and Anchorman were screened against London’s grand skyline.
Hot Tub Cinema began privately about seven years ago. Since then it has grown in increments, reaching the stage of a handful of hot tubs in a garden in Stoke Newington about 18 months ago at which point we realised it was time to find some new & exciting venues for our expanding endeavors.
The Hot Tub Cinema has a couple of events scheduled for the Halloween season, which you can check out here. They’re all going to be held in London though, so if you happen to be there, drop by for a truly one-of-a-kind movie-watching experience.
We had a bit of a laugh with Google’s Kevin Bacon calculator. Not everyone needs to tie their searches to the star of Footloose, though, which is partly why Google is pushing out an update to its Knowledge Graph that explains how searches turn up related items. The effort is starting with actors, celebrities and their links to any movies and TV shows they’ve starred in. Looking for Orson Welles and mousing over Rita Hayworth’s portrait reminds us that the two luminaries were married for years, for example. We won’t know when the more intelligent searches will expand, but at least we won’t be quite so confused if the animated Transformers movie appears next to Citizen Kane.
If you’re looking for an honest deal with a man who makes it his mission to connect to the consumers of the media he produces – and you love blood-filled effects-driven films, of course – RZA’s “The Man with the Iron Fists” release package will be right up your alley. This movie is going to be out on November 2nd, and according to RZA, the simple blacksmith that takes on evil with his own metalworking skills creating a weapon not only inside the film, but out here in the real press-driven film industry. If you head to the IronFists.com release site for the film, for example, you’ll find complete Release Notes with more details than you could possibly need to explore the upcoming epic.
This film promises to take the theater with film quality not unlike that of Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill” series with RZA and Eli Roth at the helm. As RZA makes clear, “Hollywood don’t put out these kind of movies, kid. If you want a karate movie, you gotta go get a subtitle joint. This is English speaking with Oscar-winning actors in it.” A mix-up of the quality that comes with the top-brass from Hollywood, that is, with an energy only otherwise found in the best of the best in international kung-fu productions.
You can see RZA speak on the movie briefly in the interview series shown above, hosted by hip-hop legend Funkmaster Flex and working with the director / rapper / producer to reveal not just the ingredients that make the Iron Fists movie possible, but what made the Wu-Tang Clan what it is in the music industry as well. RZA was one of the founding members of that hip-hop / kung-fu fusion group, if you did not know, and it’s from that media staple that the artist has been able to blossom in the film universe.
The Iron Fists movie will be rolling out with superstars such as Rick Yune, Jamie Chung, Cung Le, David Bautista, Byron Mann, and Gordon Liu. With Liu you’ll start to recognize stars from Quentin Tarantino films, Pam Grier, Joe D’Augustine (film editor), Lucy Liu, and Yuen Woo-Ping. This last entry in the star-studded crew was also the fight choreographer for such beastly films as Kill Bill (1 and 2), The Matrix, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Russell Crowe is in the film as well – certainly an audience grabber.
This film will work with characters such as Bronze Lion, Brass Body, and the Blacksmith, so you know it’s going to be a heavy metal sort of party, but the base here is hip-hop. Expect the visual effects that make Brass Body (David Bautista) into a real metal-skinned warrior to be complimented by the musical talents of RZA, the Wu-Tang Clan, Wiz Khalifa, The Black Keys, and and Kanye West. Expect eyes to be flying out of the faces of fighters and blood to cover the walls, also.
The folks responsible for designing the user interface for Netflix must have had smiles on their faces when they realized that they’d be able to create a Windows 8 flavoring for their archives. The new release of Netflix made specifically for Windows 8 is up for download right this minute, and incase you did not guess, yes, it is made specifically for the touchscreen. Of course you’re not going to have to use a touchscreen to make it work, but you’re definitely going to enjoy the process more if you do.
This update brings the same access to a top 10, new releases, and genres galore that you’re used to from Netflix Instant as well as a whole new way to access it all. The setup replicates closely what you’ll be doing with Windows 8′s own panel-based user interface for touchscreen devices, complete with swipe to the left to drag your whole collection. This update includes the same set of content as any other Netflix Instant offering, here allowing your desktop to make the best of the whole situation.
Netflix viewers on Windows 8 with this update and no touchscreen will be clicking and dragging rather than pulling on scrollbars. This may well bring up some ire in the userbase as we must assume that not everyone in the Windows universe will be wanting to use the touchscreens Microsoft intends them all to use. What we’ll see instead, more than likely, is an update that includes more than one interface – or a scrollbar – if the user does so desire. We’ll just have to wait and see.
The Netflix update for Windows 8 is available from your Windows Store as you would any other app, here bringing with it a couple extra updates outside the user interface as well. This update also brings with it what Netflix describes as a lessening of CPU usage as well as less of a drain on the battery life of your notebook computers. Netflix also notes that “this fall” they’ll be updating the app once again specifically – for now, time to watch True Grit!
If you thought today was exciting, you’d better get your running boots on – Die Hard 5 has been confirmed in a big way with Bruce Willis bringing out the heat once again in an explosion-filled fun-fest you’ll not want to miss. What we’re seeing here in the premiere of this beast is director John Moore taking over for our good pal Len Wiseman after the 2007 film Live Free or Die Hard – now we’ve got John McClane hanging out in Russia – with his son.
You’ll want to buckle your belt as it appears that the Die Hard crown is passed on from everyone’s favorite shoot-em-up hero in Willis to Jai Courtney, aka John McClane Jr. Here we’ve got a collection of slightly lesser-known actors playing the rest of the roles in the film save Mary Elizabeth Winstead of Scott Pilgrim fame and a still-rumored villain role set for Patrick Stewart (but we shall see.) What’s important here is that there’s explosions – lots of explosions.
The director of this film, John Moore, is most well known for his direction of the classic “Behind Enemy Lines”, and is sure to bring another lovely page to the years-long story arc. Bruce Willis will still be breaking necks and busting caps as he’s proven he’s more than able to do in his role as Joe in LOOPER. Have a peek at our LOOPER movie review to get all the deep dark news on how he’s gotta kill his younger self – or avoid being killed by his younger self as he interrupts his own past – it’ll make sense, break out the straws!
Meanwhile have a peek at our Entertainment tag portal for all the special features you can handle for only the most excellent big-name films and science-related flicks. We’ve worked through our fair share of great science-fiction pictures over the past few months and action has been abundant – stay tuned for more!
