MSI outs new CR41 notebook, hopes you like the color royal bronze

What’s rectangular, coated in a royal bronze finish, opens like a clam and lasts for up to seven and a half hours? If you answered MSI’s new CR41 notebook, you’d be right (though we would’ve accepted self-destructing jewelry boxes as an answer). The 14-inch multimedia “mobile companion,” announced just today, packs a 1,366 x 768 HD display, dedicated HM76 graphics chipset, choice of Intel’s third-generation Core i processors and comes in a variety of storage configurations: 500 GB, 640GB or 720GB. Weighing in at 5.3 pounds (2.4kg) and measuring 13.8 x 9.2 x 1.3 inches (349.7 x 234.8 x 32mm), the laptop also features a six-cell 4,400mAh battery, support for Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi b/g/n, an optical drive, ports for HDMI, USB 3.0 (x2), USB 2.0 (x2), an SD slot and the requisite headphone jack. So far no official pricing or release dates have been made public for the Windows 7 rig, but when it does hit retailers’ shelves, rest assured it’ll be upgrade-ready for Redmond’s next great OS. Follow on past the break for the official PR.

MSI GT70 and GT60 gaming notebooks now come with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M

When it comes to gaming notebooks, you cannot have them small and light – and this particular rule has no two ways about it. After all, no gamer worth his or her salt is going to sit there and play on a tiny display, and neither do they want stripped down parts to the bare essentials that it cannot even crank out a decent frame rate, never mind that lugging a real gaming notebook around is no mean feat on one’s shoulders. Well, MSI hears this clarion call, and have just updated their GT70 and GT60 gaming notebooks with the latest NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M graphics chipset, which is said to be the fastest mobile GPU to date.

It will be powered by a speedy Intel Core i7-3610QM processor, a Killer E2200 Game Network, Dynaudio Tech speakers with THX Surround Sound and SteelSeries Programmable Backlit Keyboard, ensuring that gamers will be able to experience the ultimate in mobile gaming, although I see this as a waste for folks who want to purchase this just to play Facebook games all day long. It is a travesty, I say!

MSI heads into the SSD business

Taiwan-based electronics company MSI is prepping up its newest addition to its line of computer products – Solid State Drives (SSDs). According to InsideIndustryNews who claims to have an inside connection with MSI, the Taiwanese tech giant is reportedly working on three solid state drives that are based on the SandForce SF-2281 processor. They are the RX-60 (60GB), the RX-120 (120GB), and the RX-240 (240GB). The aforementioned SSDs will provide 6 gigabits per second of bandwidth. Details regarding its availability and pricing are yet to be announced.

This is interesting because MSI is usually known for its line of motherboards, notebooks, desktops, and graphic cards. This goes to show that the company is indeed pushing its boundaries even further as it enters into the SSD business. Micro-Star International is one of the world’s largest motherboard manufacturers. The company was first founded in 1986 and it created the world’s first overclocking motherboard a year after. MSI has yet to release an official statement. Stay tuned for more updates.
