MTV Launches Optimized TV Everywhere

MTV Launches Optimized TV EverywhereMTV achieved quite a success with their video viewing app that rolled out in June last year, and today, MTV has the honor of being the first TV network to roll out a fully optimized TV Everywhere/authenticated viewing experience on the mobile web platform. In a nutshell, fans are able to watch full episodes and seasons of hit MTV series like “Teen Wolf,” “The Real World Ex-Plosion” and “Girl Code” directly on their slew of iOS and majority of Android devices out there in the market. Of course, this is not all, as in the months ahead, there will also be other similar experiences that will be launched for MTV’s sister brands that include VH1, CMT and Logo TV.

Other than TV Everywhere viewing on mobile web, MTV has also taken the step to relaunch show pages that will feature increased interactivity so that fans are able to interact with a show’s cast and characters. Expect even more features to roll out by MTV in the months ahead, too. Apart from all of this, MTV has achieved another TV first, being the first network to pre-release an entire season of a series exclusively on an app via authentication. Have you enjoyed your mobile MTV experience so far?

YouTube Music Awards hit NYC Nov. 3, blend mainstream artists and internet stars (video)

YouTube Music Awards take place Nov 3rd, blend mainstream artists and internet stars

The alternate reality of Youtube — where locally unknown but internet famous entertainers with millions of subscribers grab a spot next to widely recognizable mainstream artists — meets the real world November 3rd with the first ever YouTube Music Awards. Lady Gaga, Eminem, and Arcade Fire are some of the names you’ll recognize from TV and radio that will be there, along with YouTube channel favorites like CDZA and Lindsey Stirling. Spike Jonze is penciled in to serve as creative director and actor Jason Schwartzman will host, while VICE and Sunset Entertainment drop in as executive producers. Since YouTube is where many people go to check out music and find the newest artists (MTV is for scripted shows and reality TV of… varying quality), that it would launch its own live event seems almost inevitable.

The show itself comes to you from NYC, but musical collaborations will be beamed in from locales around the globe including Seoul (so, that means Psy is going to show up), Moscow, London and Rio. Nominations for the awards open October 17th, and the site is calling on viewers to judge contributions from the past year to determine who will be the winner.

Lovefilm gets MTV and Nickelodeon through streaming deal with Viacom

Lovefilm gets MTV and Nickelodeon through streaming deal with Viacom

Earlier this year, Amazon reached a deal with Viacom to keep many of the media company’s shows on Prime Instant Video, even scoring some exclusive content along the way. Now it’s time for Amazon’s other streaming service, Lovefilm, to benefit from a similar agreement. As you’d expect, Lovefilm’s UK subscribers will now be able to enjoy a variety of content from Viacom networks, including shows on MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon. And fret not if you don’t enjoy shows like Jersey Shore — at the very least you’ll have the likes of SpongeBob and Go Diego Go! to keep the kiddos busy while you catch up on Man v. Food.

MTV app arrives on the Xbox with full episode streaming, still no music videos

DNP MTV app arrives on the Xbox, requires subscription from Viacom's TV Everywhere partners to get full benefit

If you’d rather catch up on your favorite episodes of Catfish or Teen Wolf on the TV instead of your iPad, you can now do so via MTV’s new app for the Xbox 360. Like other content apps for Microsoft’s console, you need an Xbox Live Gold subscription to gain access to shows. As with Nickelodeon, only those who are subscribed to one of Viacom’s “TV Everywhere” partners like DirecTV and Time Warner Cable can get the last five episodes — the rest will have to make do with the most recent showing. Those without a subscription can still view other content like clips from MTV News, the Video Music Awards and certain web exclusives. Regardless of which provider you have however, you’ll still have to look elsewhere for your music video fix.

MTV Launches Video Streaming App For Xbox 360

MTV Launches Video Streaming App For Xbox 360

MTV today launched its video streaming app for the Xbox 360, allowing users of the console to stream its exclusive TV shows. An Xbox Live Gold subscription will be required in order to watch these shows through MTV’s app, and to get the most recent episodes of the shows, users will also need to be subscribed to a participating pay-TV partner.

There’s another caveat attached to the app. The five latest episodes of current MTV shows will only be available for those Xbox 360 users that are subscribed to any of Viacom’s “TV Everywhere” partners. DirecTV, Verizon FiOS, AT&T U-verse, Time Warner Cable, Cablevision, Suddenlink, RCN, Hawaiian Telecom and Bright House Networks make up that list. Having this restriction in place means that majority of the Xbox 360 owners won’t actually be able to access the latest content unless they subscribe to one of Viacom’s pay-TV partner. Apart from letting users streaming new and old shows whenever they want, the app will also provide additional content such as clips from MTV Video Music Awards, web originals from MTV Other as well as clips from MTV News. The app can be navigated either through the console’s controller or through hand gestures if Kinect is attached to the console.

Viacom lands deal to show TV highlights on Twitter starting August 25th

Twitter bird on a TV logo - inspiring!

While Viacom hasn’t always understood how this whole internet video thing works, it’s showing some tech savviness today with confirmation of rumors that it’s joining Twitter’s Amplify program. Beginning with the MTV Video Music Awards on August 25th, Viacom will deliver ad-backed video highlights on Twitter for shows and events across its channel range, including MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon. In theory, the agreement is a win for everyone: Viacom and Twitter get more revenue, while we get a legal way to revisit those inevitable celebrity slip-ups. The two sides haven’t said how long their partnership will last, although we wouldn’t be surprised if results from the VMA broadcast help shape the deal’s future.

MTV for iOS: More Full, On-Demand Video Content Than Ever Before

MTV for iOS: More Full, On-Demand Video Content Than Ever Before

MTV iOS app relaunched with full-episode streaming, more video content

MTV iOS apps relaunched with fullepisode streaming, more video content

While MTV has had a presence on Apple’s mobile platform to some extent, its parent company, Viacom, is now approaching things differently by increasing and improving the video content found in its iOS apps. MTV is renaming its WatchWith app as, well, MTV, and it’s adding on some new functionality to go with the popular second-screen features. The most notable trait of the newfangled iOS app is the ability to stream episodes from select MTV shows in full, though, in order to do so, users will need to be subscribed to one of the participating cable providers — AT&T U-verse, DirecTV, Time Warner Cable and Verizon FiOS being among them. The Reality Television Music Television network says it’s also boosting the app’s on-demand repertoire, giving viewers access to a slew of sneak peaks, bonus clips and other original content. And, hey, we’ll take as much Awkward as we can get.
