Samsung’s mobile head JK Shin has supposedly confirmed that there’s an 8-inch Galaxy Note coming next month at Mobile World Congress, a trade show in Barcelona. That means you’re going to need to buy a pair of Jncos if you want to carry this rumored monstrous phablet in your pocket. More »
The internet has been quietly discussing the possibility of an 8-inch Galaxy Note for a while now, but nothing appeared at CES. However, it might’ve just been waiting for the right event to make its entrance, and iNews24 is reporting that JK Shin himself has confirmed the Galaxy Note 8 will debut at MWC. Seeming as the Korean news outfit also got word on the S III mini from Samsung’s mobile chief before anything was official, we’ve got no reason to doubt this scoop. If this addition to the Note range is the mysterious GT-N5100 we saw benchmarked recently, it could be packing a 1.6GHz quad-core Exynos processor, and fit 1,280 x 800 pixels in that 8-inch display (the same res as the Galaxy Note 10.1). As JK Shin shared nothing but the screen size for now, we’ll just have to wait until MWC to get all the finer details.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 was Samsung’s flagship phone of 2012 and while it might pack some pretty impressive hardware, what it lacks is ruggedness which could be a feature some users are looking for. Well if you’re in the market for a rugged smartphone, come MWC 2013 rumor has it that Samsung could be taking the wraps off the Galaxy X Cover 2, the successor to the X Cover which was a rugged Android smartphone. According to the folks at SamMobile, the Galaxy X Cover 2 will feature both dust and water protection, although we suggest you not go deep sea diving with it, but if you’re in an environment where chances of your phone might get splashed often, then perhaps this could be a device for you.
The Galaxy X Cover 2 is expected to feature a 4” TFT WVGA display, a 5MP rear-facing camera, a 0.3MP front-facing camera, 4GB of internal storage expandable via microSD, the usual connectivity options such as USB, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS and will come with either Android 4.1 or Android 4.2 Jelly Bean preinstalled. SamMobile expects that the Galaxy X Cover 2 will come in either Titan Gray or Black/Red options although no word on pricing or availability just yet. In any case we wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung had a slew of new devices to share at MWC 2013, and yes, we will be live on site so be sure to check back with us then for all the details!

Rumored Samsung Tablets Santos, Roma And Kona Expected To Debut At MWC 2013
Posted in: Today's ChiliLast week we reported that Samsung was said to unveil their next-generation of Galaxy Tab devices at MWC 2013, unsurprising given that MWC is the biggest mobile event of the year and some of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab tablets were due for an update. According to SamMobile, they claim to have been tipped by their Korean insider who revealed that Samsung had a trio of tablets that they would be introducing and they have been given the codenames Santos, Roma and Kona. Based on their intel, the Santos Galaxy Tab devices are said to be called the Galaxy Tab 3 and will come in either 7” or 10.1” variants, although Samsung supposedly is still on the fence about the 7” model. Unfortunately apart from that, hardware specifications are unknown and will probably be revealed at a later date.
The same is the case of the Roma tablet which is supposedly a high-end tablet from Samsung. The specs remain unknown but all SamMobile could confirm was that it would feature a 5MP camera and will be available in either 16GB of 32GB varieties and will be available in the first half of 2013. Last but not least is the Kona tablet which apparently is the codename of the Galaxy Note 8.0 and its specs are similar to what we heard the last time, which is an 8” 1280×800 display, 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16/32GB storage options with a 5MP rear-facing camera, a 1.3MP front-facing camera with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean running the show.

So Samsung is expected to unveil a couple of new devices at MWC 2013 which will be taking place next month. So far we’ve heard about a certain Galaxy Note 8.0 along with a possible 5.8” Android smartphone which could also be unveiled, and thanks to a recent report by a South Korean publication, Samsung could be launching their next-generation range of Galaxy Tab tablets at MWC as well. Considering that MWC is a pretty big deal as far as mobile devices are concerned, it is not surprising that Samsung has a few devices up their sleeves that they saved for the event.
At the moment it seems that a Full HD 7” Galaxy Tab has been “confirmed” with a quad-core processor on board, but given that the Galaxy Tab range of tablets also comes in a 10.1” model as well, there is no word on that particular model just yet. The exact specifics have not been unveiled but hopefully more details will surface from now until then, so stay tuned for more updates, but at the same time take this news with a grain of salt since they cannot be confirmed at the moment.

We know that Samsung has a thing for smartphones with ginormous displays – think the original Galaxy Note which has since grown in size with the Galaxy Note 2. However according to the folks at SamMobile, they are claiming that thanks to their sources, Samsung might have plans to announce an Android smartphone with a whopping 5.8” display! To be fair such a device by Samsung already exists although it is only available in Korea and is known as the Samsung Galaxy Player 5.8 (pictured above). Based on that name, we guess you probably already figured out that it is a media player rather than a smartphone, but things might change soon with this alleged 5.8” device which has the model number GT-I9512.
Not much is known about the device in terms of hardware, but SamMobile claims that it will feature dual-SIM capabilities and will be available in pure white and should run Android 4.1.2/4.2.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. We’ll be taking this with a grain of salt for now, but with MWC 2013 taking place at the end of February, we expect Samsung will be there to announce their new products and maybe this alleged 5.8” Android smartphone will be part of their announcement.

Fans of the LG Optimus G might recall that a few weeks ago, it was suggested that the Optimus G2 could get a possible announcement at CES 2013, but unfortunately the event came and went and apart from new LG TVs, there was no mention of the handset at all. Now according to new reports, it seems that the reason why the Optimus G2 did not make its scheduled CES appearance was due to the handset apparently being delayed for later on this year, and will be delayed until the Fall of 2013 which is when Google is expected to release its next major build of Android – Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. Specs of the device aren’t known at the moment, but many are pretty sure it will sport a Full HD display which seems to be the trend these days.
However at the same time there have also been rumors that LG could be unveiling a quad-core, Full HD 5.5” Android smartphone at MWC 2013 called the Optimus GK, so we’re not sure what to make of this just yet. Either way MWC 2013 will be taking place in over a month’s time and we will be on site, so check back with us then for all the details. In the meantime we suggest you take this with a grain of salt for now.

Just the other day Huawei revealed that they would be launching an 8-core chipset, following in Samsung’s footsteps when the South Korean company announced their plans during CES. At that time we mentioned that Huawei also had a new phone for MWC 2013 and according to the reports, word has it that one of the phones Huawei will be launching is called the W2 and it will be the company’s second Windows Phone 8 handset, and supposedly a higher-end version of the Huawei Ascend W1. Assuming the rumors are accurate, the Ascend W2 will be a 7.7mm phone which compared to Android seems rather thick, but at 7.7mm it will make it the slimmest Windows Phone handset to date.
Other alleged specs of the Ascend W2 include a 4.5” HD display, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 2,800mAh battery and is expected to retail for $515, making it cheaper than both the Nokia Lumia 920 and the HTC Windows Phone 8X. If this is true and the phone does arrive stateside, it looks like those who find the Nokia Lumia 920 a tad chunky for their tastes and are in the market for something slimmer and cheaper, Huawei could be the answer to their problem. Either way we’ll be live at MWC 2013 which will be taking place towards the end of February, so be sure to check back with us then to see if the rumors pan out.
