LG Optimus F7, Optimus F5 Leaks Before MWC Announcement

LG Optimus F7, Optimus F5 Leaks Before MWC AnnouncementLG released a video teasing its upcoming announcements at MWC in Barcelona next week which we believed was teasing a new device in its L, G, V and F-series. One day later, we now know a portion of what LG is planning to unveil at MWC thanks once again to everyone’s favorite Android-device leaker, evleaks.

The leaked press shot features two devices called the LG Optimus F7 (left) and Optimus F5 (right). Both devices seem to feature some kind of white plastic, or maybe a metallic front based on how reflective the device seems to be in the press shot.

No internal specifications were leaked along with the image, but we believe it’s safe to say both the LG Optimus F7 and Optimus F5 will run on Android and allow you to make a phone call of some kind, as well as checking messages and possibly taking pictures. We know this is the kind of professional research you look forward to from us at Ubergizmo.

ASUS Teases Upcoming ‘Metallic Miracle’ MWC Announcement

Mobile World Congress is coming next week and our team is already en route to Barcelona to prepare for the onslaught of mobile content. We’re sure there will be a number of big announcements for upcoming mobile devices at MWC, one of which will come from ASUS as they released a video teasing their upcoming announcement.

The teaser video is called “Ultimate Craftmanship. Today.” and shows a UFO flying over Barcelona while people in the city watch it land on a church. The video then ends with a invitation to its viewers to “join ASUS to embrace the metallic miracle” on February 25, during Mobile World Congress.

We’re not entirely sure what exactly a UFO landing on a church in Barcelona means as we can’t imagine such an act results in the future of mobile technology. If we had to guess based on the video and the message, we could expect whatever ASUS has to unveil will be made of chrome or some other material made of metal. Haven’t the recent leaks of its upcoming Fonepad hinted at a metal back?

AMD Turbo Dock promises perfect balance for your Win8 hybrid

AMD has revealed Turbo Dock, its latest attempt to broach the tablet and ultraportable markets, with a Jekyll & Hyde APU processor that prioritizes performance when docked and battery life when in slate mode. Set to debut on AMD’s Temash SoC this year, Turbo Dock is in effect a dynamic throttling system that boosts CPU and GPU performance by up to 40-percent when a hybrid PC is docked, on the assumption that the user is likely to be doing more system-intensive content creation.

amd_turbo_dock

When the screen section is removed, however, Turbo Dock automatically throttles things back, reducing power consumption so that the tablet lasts longer. In fact, the system is constantly adjusting depending on what apps are being run, meaning the full potency of the APU isn’t employed if all you’re doing is watching a video.

Temash, meanwhile, is AMD’s latest low-power processor, aimed at Windows 8 powered tablets and hybrids. Built using 28nm processes, it promises five times the graphics performance of Intel’s Atom Z2760 – as in, for instance, Acer’s Iconia W510 hybrid – and will be available in dual- and quadcore versions.

AMD will be bringing along a selection of demo units to Mobile World Congress next week, to show off exactly what the A6-1450 and other Temash SoCs are capable of. Meanwhile, the first production tablets and hybrids to use Temash and feature Turbo Dock will be launched later in 2013, though no specific brands have been confirmed at this stage.

ASUS teases “metallic miracle” for MWC 2013

Mobile World Congress is coming up soon, folks, and companies are getting ready by teasing some of their products to eager onlookers before the event. ASUS released a quick teaser today that doesn’t give us a lot of details — if any — about what to expect from them at MWC, but it seems that the company may be planning an extraterrestrial takeover sometime soon.

Screen Shot 2013-02-20 at 10.13.47 AM

The quick teaser video features a large alien spacecraft being recorded by a curious onlooker Cloverfield style. The spaceship ends up landing on top of the yet-to-be-completely-built Sagrada Família church in Barcelona. The words “Ultimate craftsmanship. Today” appear on the video along with a message at the end to join ASUS “to embrace the metallic miracle.”

Of course, we have no idea what to expect from the teaser, although the description of the video mentions bringing “Pad and Phone” together, so it likes we may see a hybrid Transformer-like product from the company, but we’ll ultimately have to wait and see what ASUS has in store for us come next week.

Rumors have been quiet surrounding ASUS lately, which either means that they’re really good at keeping secrets, or there’s just not enough general interest surrounding ASUS’s next offerings. Either way, though, a product that brings together “Pad and Phone” seems incredibly intriguing, and we’ll be there live at MWC to bring you all the latest. Stay tuned!

Samsung Galaxy Star Rumored To Be A Low-End Android Device

Samsung Galaxy Star Rumored To Be A Low End Android DeviceOne of the ways Samsung has managed to capture a greater share of the market is by offering devices ranging from high-end, like the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2, to low-end budget Android devices that can be bought by those shopping on a budget. Now the good news is that if you’re looking for a new budget Android device for 2013, Samsung might have something for you in the form of the Galaxy Star. This alleged device will apparently be announced at MWC 2013 which will be taking place next week. The Galaxy Star GT-S5282 will be a low-end Android handset and it is possible that the Galaxy Star moniker is merely a codename, and that it could actually be the Galaxy Y.

The device will feature a 3” display with QVGA resolution, a 2MP camera, 4GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot for memory expansion with support for up to 32GB, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, a 1,200mAh battery and will run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, which all things considered is pretty much the highlight of this device. No word on how much it will cost or when it will be made available, but given its specs it will probably go easy on your wallet. In any case we will be live at MWC 2013 in Barcelona, so if you’re hankering for more mobile news, be sure to check back with us then for all the coverage!

Acer Liquid E1 and Z2 aim for entry-level Android

Acer has outed a pair of new Android smartphones, the Acer Liquid E1 and Liquid Z2, ahead of Mobile World Congress, each running 1GHz processors and targeting the entry-level point of the market. The Liquid E1 is fronted by a 4.5-inch qHD display and will have a dual-SIM option, with a 1GHz dualcore processor, stereo speakers and a 5-megapixel camera with an LED flash. Up front is a VGA-resolution camera, while inside there’s WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0+EDR.

Connectivity also includes dualband 3G and quadband GSM/EDGE, in addition to a microSD card slot to add to the 4GB of internal storage. Acer fits a 1,760 mAh battery to the 132 x 68.5 x 9.9mm, 130g handset, and loads a copy of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with some of its own customizations.

As for the Acer Liquid Z2, that’s a smaller device, at 110 x 62.5 x 12.25mm and 110g, and pairs a 3.5-inch HVGA screen with a 1GHz processor. It also runs Android 4.1, but has only half the RAM – 512MB – of the bigger E1; you still get microSD and 4GB of storage, though.

Two camera versions – either 3-megapixels or 5-megapixels – will be offered, along with a dual-SIM option. All will have dualband 3G, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0+EDR, and an FM radio.

Acer will offer both new phones first in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and the Ukraine, followed by launches in Russia, the UK, and Italy. Expect prices around €199-€229 for the Liquid E1 and €99-€129 for the Liquid Z2

LG Teases Possible L, G, V And F-series For MWC 2013

We’re sure that many of you guys are excited to see what sort of new and exciting products will be unveiled at MWC 2013, and fret not because we will be there covering the event. However in the meantime, if you’re a fan of LG, it looks like the South Korean company has decided to release a teaser video in which they are hinting at the possibility of several new phones. These phones could be adopting the L, G, V and F monikers, or they might be part of a lineup. Either way we’ve heard of the L-series, the G-series (Optimus G Pro, for example), and the V-series (possibly hinting at the Vu), but the F-series would definitely be something new. At this time it’s hard to tell if these phones will be high-end devices or low-mid ranged offerings, but either way it will be worth checking out, so stayed tuned for more updates! In the meantime you can check out the teaser video above.

Mysterious Nokia Lumia Device Spotted In Lumia 920 Ad

We’re definitely curious as to what Nokia will be bringing to the table come MWC 2013, but until then we guess we will just have to be patient and hope that leaks and hints clue us in on what to expect. In any case the folks at My Nokia Blog have spotted a mysterious looking Nokia device in an advertisement meant to showcase the Lumia 920 on Dutch carrier, KPN. Based on what we saw in the video (embedded above and around the 0:05 mark), this particular device features curved edges which is definitely not of the Lumia 920’s design. Instead it appears to be something of a combination between the Lumia 822 and the Lumia 620, suggesting that perhaps this mystery device could be another budget Windows Phone offering by the Finnish company. Either way with the Lumia 920 currently being Nokia’s flagship smartphone, we doubt that they will be introducing a new flagship device so soon, but we guess we will just have to wait and see. We will be at MWC 2013 so be sure to check back with us then for all the live coverage of the latest news!

LG Optimus G Pro Officially Has a 5.5-inch Display

LG Optimus G Pro Officially Has a 5.5 inch Display

Although the Japanese version of the LG Optimus G is already on the market, the world was eagerly awaiting for some certainty as for the International version, and the U.S version will most likely be derivatives of that one. First of all the LG Optimus G Pro is officially a “Phablet”, thanks to its huge 5.5″ 1080p (full HD) IPS Display. From a processor standpoint, the Optimus G Pro will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro just like its predecessor. There’s 2GB  of RAM and 32GB of internal storage (no microSD, sorry). There’s one more bit of good news: the battery will stand at 3140mAh and that should provide enough room for power users to play with.

We’ve been quite enthusiastic about the LG Optmus G, and so far, it seems that the Optimus G Pro improves where it was needed the most, namely the display quality (1080p) and the larger battery. The 5.5″ size is welcome for folks (like me) who like the comfort of a large display. This will raise the bar for the upcoming Nexus Phone…

As you may have seen, LG has also announced lower-end LG Optimus L Series II smartphones yesterday, with the LG L5II, L3II and L7II. All handsets should be on display at Mobile World Congress in a couple of weeks. [LG site, in Korean]

LG Optimus L7 II, L5 II, and L3 II tackle Android mainstream

Mobile World Congress is still a couple of weeks off, but LG hasn’t been able to resist announcing some of its new smartphone line-up ahead of schedule, in the shape of the new Optimus L Series II. The three-strong updated lineup – consisting of the Optimus L7 II, the L5 II, and the L3 II – tidy up their design for 2013, with crisper cuts to the chassis, tighter join-lines, and “smart” lighting on the home button.

Optimus_L_Series_II_3_L5_L7_L3

There’s also software tweaks to be found, with QuickMemo for handwritten notes – albeit with a fingertip, not with a digital stylus – and Quick Button for a personalized hot-key to load an app or blank notelet. Safety Care, meanwhile, can be used for emergency call forwarding, “phone non-usage notice – which presumably warns a relative if you’re not active on your phone for an unusual length of time – and the ability to have the Optimus L Series II handset automatically ping out your location.

At the top of the range there’s the Optimus L7 II, with a 1GHz dualcore MSM8225 processor, 768MB of RAM, and up to 4GB of internal storage (with a microSD card slot to expand it). The screen is a 4.3-inch IPS panel running – disappointingly – at WVGA resolution, though the 8-megapixel camera on the back (complete with LED flash) is a little more acceptable. A VGA camera is on the front, while a healthy 2,460 mAh battery is inside.

Optimus_L_Series_II_1_L7_L5_L3

LG will be offering both single and dual-SIM versions of the L7 II, and in fact the dual-SIM model will be on sale first, hitting Russia sometime this week. No word on pricing at this stage, nor availability details for other countries.

As for the Optimus L5 II, that will have a 4-inch WVGA display and a 1,700 mAh battery, while the Optimus L3 II steps back in time with a 3.2-inch QVGA display and a 1,540 mAh battery. Pricing and release details will also be shared later.
