Dream Arcades Vision 32: 140 Classic Games + 32″ Display = 1 Nostalgia Totem

It’s becoming increasingly cheaper to make your own arcade machine, but if you’d rather leave it to the pros check out Dream Arcades’ latest offering, the Vision 32. The machine gets its name from its 32″ LCD display. It’s loaded with 140 classic games, but as an introductory offer Dream Machines is giving away more games and other freebies to early buyers.

The Vision 32 is based on a Windows XP computer with a 3.0GHz Pentium 4 CPU, 1GB RAM, 80GB hard drive, CD-ROM drive and Ethernet port. Its buttons and 2.25″ trackball are backlit. It also has side pinball buttons and a hidden keyboard shelf. Dream Arcades didn’t specify the resolution of the display, only that it’s high definition.

Xevious T-Shirt: If Only It Offered Vertical Scrolling

Back in the day, Xevious was one of my favorite arcade games. It was one of the first-ever vertical-scrollers, and it offered great graphics for its time, a hypnotic soundtrack, and great gameplay. Now, you can celebrate fond memories of Namco’s arcade classic with this great full-print Xevious t-shirt.

The t-shirt is covered top-to-bottom with graphics from the 1983 arcade shooter. What I really love about the design is that it’s really cool all on its own, but those who know the game will know exactly what it’s all about.

Unfortunately, the Xevious t-shirts appear to have been so collectible that the price has escalated significantly over retail. But if you really want one, you can still find them over on Amazon Japan or eBay for anywhere from about $50 to $120 (USD). At least that’s still cheaper than an actual Xevious machine.

Dark Souls 2 PS3 Beta Starts On October 12 In North America, Europe

Namco announced just a few weeks ago they’ll be launching a beta for its upcoming title, Dark Souls 2, on the PlayStation 3 this October to probably prepare those who plan on purchasing the game in March 2014 to die an obscene number of times. It looks like Namco has just revealed when exactly North American, Australian and European Dark Souls fans will be able to partake in the beta, which will start on October 12. (more…)

Nintendo’s Wii U gets first free-to-play game as TANK! TANK! TANK! gets divided on eShop

Nintendo's Wii U gets first freetoplay game as TANK! TANK! TANK! gets divided on eShop

Namco‘s TANK! TANK! TANK! may have a great title, but it looks like its sales trajectory wasn’t too far off from its name. The bizarre Wii U tank battle game is going free-to-play as of this week’s eShop update — at least in Europe — dividing the game into three pieces based on game modes, each costing £1.59 (€1.99). Should you choose to not pay Namco’s light toll, you can play each of the game’s modes for free three times per day — that toll raises to £7.99 (€9.99) apiece after February 28th, so you may want to act quickly. The new pricing and division of the game goes into effect this Thursday, when the EU’s Wii U eShop updates.

Retro gamers looking for a way to keep their beer and sody pop nice and cool should look no further than this fun can cozy designed to look like Pooka, the inflatable round nemesis of Dig Dug.

It’s just one of many fun can, bottle and coffee cup cozies over at Crochet Cozies’ Etsy shop, where you can also find such masterpieces as the LEGO Minifig and the epic Where’s Waldo beer cozy.

The Pooka can cozy will set you back $38(USD), and is guaranteed not to explode – unless you connect a compressed air hose to the can. Then all bets are off.

Pac-Man Ghost Lamps Get Officially Licensed, Officially Awesome

A while back, I found some lamps that were pretty reminiscent of the ghosts from Pac-Man. However, they weren’t officially-licensed, and they looked really cheaply made. On the other hand, these new Pac-Man lamps are totally official, plus they look like they’re well built and have a few other tricks up their sleeves. Ghosts do have sleeves, don’t they?

These ghosts have one big feature absent from the cheaper clones from last year. Each official Pac-Man ghost lamp includes a wireless remote control, which lets you set your ghost to one of sixteen colors. Want Blinky red? Check. Inky cyan? Yap. Pinky pink? Absolutely? Clyde orange? Indeed. Blue ghost blue? Of course. You can even make up new ghost colors and names. Personally, I like the idea of a purple ghost named “Barney”.

You can also set the lamps to blink, flash, dim, fade and strobe modes if you like ghosts at your raves. The ghosts also look like they’re floating above the surface of your desk for added effect.

The Pac-Man ghost lamp is available now over at Firebox for about $56(USD), and if you order now, you should be able to get one in hand in time for Christmas gift-giving.

Now all we need is a Pac-Man lamp to go with, and we’ll be all set.

Romain Jerome Pac-Man Watch Will Gobble up Your Money

So you just sold your entire videogame collection and you’re swimming in money. You already bought the Space Invaders wristwatch, but you’re still Scrooge McDuck! What to do? I suggest you add the official Pac-Man watch to your shopping list.

Romain Jerome – the same company who made the Space Invaders watch – teamed up with Namco to make four ever so slightly different Pac-Man watch designs each limited to just 20 pieces. I’m not sure why they didn’t just make 80 of the one above, because the other three variants all look inferior to it on account of having fewer Pac-Man characters. But I guess if all of them have parts made of “steel fused with parts of the Apollo 11″ and “low oxidation silver fused with moon rocks”, 8-bit icons are just a quirky bonus.

The watches will be exclusively launched at the Colette store in Paris starting September 3, followed by a wider availability on September 10. Each watch will be sold for $17,900 (USD). Wakka-wakka-WHAT?!?
