BT to broadcast and stream live NBA games in the UK

New York Knicks v Los Angeles Clippers

BT has landed quite a few major sports broadcasting deals as of late, including its buyout of ESPN’s British and Irish channels back in February. Today, it’s extending its athletic empire with an exclusive arrangement to air NBA games in Ireland and the UK. The agreement will see BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN broadcast as many as seven live games per week, with some of them streaming through BT Sport’s website and mobile apps. While there isn’t a huge market for basketball in the country, the pact will make life much easier for diehard UK fans and American ex-pats — they won’t have to buy online passes or otherwise bend over backwards to keep up with their favorite NBA teams.

NBA League Pass Broadband 2013-14: Still Shitty, You Should Not Buy It

NBA League Pass Broadband 2013-14: Still Shitty, You Should Not Buy It

Last year we gave you a heads-up about the poor quality of NBA League Pass Broadband, the NBA’s shady auto-renew system for its online video offering, and the league’s non-existent customer service. Has the league finally gotten its act together for this season’s edition? After several weeks of attempting to use the service, we can conclusively answer: nope.

NBA Inks $100 Million Three Year Deal With Samsung

NBA Inks $100 Million Three Year Deal With Samsung

Under a $100 million three year deal, Samsung will see its technology used courtside at National Basketball Association games, WSJ reports citing “people familiar with the matter.” Being the official supplier of tablets and TVs for the NBA, Samsung will also supply courtside monitors which will be used by referees to review close calls, once the new season kicks off later this week. NBA has had similar deals with Haier Group and HP in the past.

This deal no doubt gets Samsung close to the action, and it would become one of the most visible companies at NBA games over the next three years. The report also suggests that the NBA will customize video content for Samsung devices, not just mobile devices though, customized content may also be made available to Samsung TVs. The deal is also likely to generate a lot of buzz for Samsung devices and services, as the Korean manufacturer looks to set its offerings apart from its competitors in the market. This isn’t Samsung’s first NBA related venture. It has previously tapped LeBron James to star in a commercial for its Galaxy Note 2 phablet. It also partnered up with former Brooklyn Nets owner Jay Z prior to the launch of his new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, a million copies of which were exclusively provided to Galaxy S3, S4 and Note 2 owners for free by Samsung.

2K On NBA 2K14: Next-Gen Means “Getting Everything Right”

2K On NBA 2K14: Next Gen Means Getting Everything Right”Yesterday, I had an opportunity to take a look at the next-gen NBA 2K14 basketball game in San Francisco. The 2K team had brought a number of demo systems and even a head scan setup to show us a peek at the 2K14 “behind the scenes” game production. Since I don’t play sports games much I’m not going to “review” or preview the game, but what caught my attention is how extensively 2K worked on making the 2K14 experience immersive – including a “MyCareer” mode where you start as a rookie player and have to deal with the business side of things. NBA 2K14 is not only about playing basketball, but actually about “living” basketball. (more…)

NBA To Install Motion Tracking Cameras At All Arenas This Season

NBA To Install Motion Tracking Cameras At All Arenas This Season

The NBA has announced that it is going to install motion tracking cameras this season in all arenas. This is being done to provide fans, players and coaches with improved stats and data. NBA is using Stats’ SportVU motion tracking system, which basically uses a six camera setup to collect various types of data. All 30 NBA teams will use the system to calibrate and measure movements of all players and the ball on the court.

For targeted and detailed analysis of both teams and players, the system will generate a continuous stream of data that’s based on factors such as ball possession, player separation, speed, and distance. The data will be used by NBA Game Time app, nba.com and NBA TV to provide fans with detailed breakdown of every game and to enchance the statistics that the league currently offers. The algorithms that are used to collect data will constantly be refined, they’re already able to identify certain plays as well as defensive rotations. Previously only 15 teams were using this technology, so the database wasn’t comprehensive. Now, the data about every team and every player will be collected every night, thus enabling the NBA to offer a more comprehensive database to both teams and fans alike.

New NBA stats deal will put motion tracking cameras in every arena

NBA to use Stats LLC's tracking cameras for generating player data on the fly

The NBA faces a big challenge now that it offers all its player statistics to the public — how does it generate stats that hold the interest of basketball fans? The league’s solution is a multi-year agreement to use Stats LLC’s SportVU motion tracking system in every arena (15 teams had already implemented the technology on their own). As of the 2013-14 season, every NBA arena will have a six-camera setup that creates a steady stream of player data based on ball possession, distance, proximity and speed. The NBA’s website, NBA Game Time and NBA TV will all use the information to expand game stats beyond what we see today with heat maps and specific details on each possession. There’s no telling how useful that extra knowledge will be, but we won’t be shocked if it helps settle a few sports bar arguments.

Nike LeBron 11 Shoes: Lighter Than Ever

The latest Nike LeBron James branded footwear has been unveiled, and it’s looking like it will be a very lightweight shoe. Previous models were a bit bulkier, which was both good and bad.

nike lebron james 11 basketball shoe sneaker

I got hooked on the LeBron James 10 simply because of the comfort of the shoe for casual wear. This came from the AirMax 360 airbag that was very prominent at the bottom of the shoe. This feature, or something close to it has been present on LeBron James shoes for a few years. Not anymore. The LBJ 11 no longer has a visible AirMax 360 airbag. Instead, it emphasizes light weight. A size nine shoe weighs just 14.5 oz.

The upper features Hyperposite technology for lock-down, a Hyperfuse construction and Dynamic Flywire tech to keep it all cinched down. The cushion comes from a full-length Lunarlon sole with a Nike Zoom unit – a first for LBJ shoes. So what does that all mean? They’re just fancy brand names for a lightweight, durable and flexible shoe.

The Nike LeBron James 11 will be launched this October for about $200(USD).

Nike Lebron 11: Shoes That Look Like Space Rock Diamonds

Nike Lebron 11: Shoes That Look Like Space Rock Diamonds

Here are the jewels that’ll adorn the feet of the world’s greatest basketball player LeBron James for the upcoming basketball season. They look like they’re brilliantly cut like a diamond. They look like something Iron Man might wear in his future. They also look like something an outer space alien version of The Thing would wear on his feet. Basically, they look nothing like how most basketball shoes are supposed to look.
