You know you are in for the long haul whenever you pick up a console – whether it is in the past with an 8-bit system, or sometime in the future after that with a 16-bit, 32-bit, and so on and so forth. Fast forward to today, and we have the Xbox One as well as Sony PS4 which will be able to deliver extremely realistic graphics without batting an eyelid. However, there are some of us out there who like to live in the past sometimes, and this is where the $199.99 NEOGEO X Gold System comes in handy.

The NEOGEO X Gold System will feature a docking station with USB ports, where it carries AV as well as HDMI out ports, and the dock itself will be able to juice up the handheld without missing a beat.

The NEOGEO X Gold System comes with a 4.3” LCD display, which has 16:9 and 4:3 display options for you to choose from. Apart from that, it boasts of stereo speakers and a standard headphone port, and it is possible to run a 2-player mode as long as there is a second NEOGEO X Joystick in the vicinity.

Back in 2012, manufacturer Tommo decided to bring the NeoGeo back in the form of a handheld gaming console called the NeoGeo X. The console was essentially a handheld remake of SNK’s NeoGeo home console, packed into a more compact body and came with a handful of licensed games. We’re not sure if the console had a wide appeal given that the games offered were pretty old school, but for those who managed to get their hands on it, it was pretty well-received. Unfortunately it looks like if you managed to purchase a NeoGeo X, what you have on your hands would be a limited edition device because it turns out that SNK Playmore has sent a cease and desist letter to Tommo.

According to SNK Playmore, “Upon termination of the License and Distribution Agreement, SNK has demanded that TOMMO Inc. immediately cease any and all manufacturing, distribution, marketing & promotion and selling of the Licensed Products.” This means that there will no longer be any NeoGeo X consoles made and that all current units will no longer be allowed for sale. We’re not sure what happened between SNK and Tommo, but based on the severity of the letter, it’s safe to say that whatever transpired between both companies could not have been pleasant.
