NEOGEO X Gold System comes with a pack of free games to get you started

neoegeo-x-goldYou know you are in for the long haul whenever you pick up a console – whether it is in the past with an 8-bit system, or sometime in the future after that with a 16-bit, 32-bit, and so on and so forth. Fast forward to today, and we have the Xbox One as well as Sony PS4 which will be able to deliver extremely realistic graphics without batting an eyelid. However, there are some of us out there who like to live in the past sometimes, and this is where the $199.99 NEOGEO X Gold System comes in handy.

The NEOGEO X Gold System would be accompanied by the Free Mega Pack Vol. 1, where it will give you a grand total of 35 games – 20 of these will arrive pre-loaded, while another 15 of them will be stored on an SD memory card. The NEOGEO X Gold System will feature a docking station with USB ports, where it carries AV as well as HDMI out ports, and the dock itself will be able to juice up the handheld without missing a beat.

The NEOGEO X Gold System comes with a 4.3” LCD display, which has 16:9 and 4:3 display options for you to choose from. Apart from that, it boasts of stereo speakers and a standard headphone port, and it is possible to run a 2-player mode as long as there is a second NEOGEO X Joystick in the vicinity.

NeoGeo X’s Manufacturer Responds To SNK Playmore’s Cease And Desist

NeoGeo Xs Manufacturer Responds To SNK Playmores Cease And DesistThe other day it was reported that SNK Playmore had sent a cease and desist letter to Tommo, whom they had licensed the NeoGeo brand to which allowed the company to create the NeoGeo X handheld console. The cease and desist letter basically told Tommo that they were to stop not only production of the device, but to halt all sales of the console at the same time, meaning that whatever units were left on sale were to be taken down immediately. The severity of the letter seems to suggest that there was a bad breakup involved between both companies, but a recent response by Tommo has us believing that the company plans to fight the cease and desist letter by SNK Playmore.

According to part of the response by Tommo, “Due to the popularity of the system, Tommo and SNK extended the agreement earlier this year until 2016. Tommo fully expects this agreement to be honored by all parties.” Tommo then goes on to demand “that SNK retract its press release and any attempts to terminate the license agreement.” In any case it seems that whatever bad blood happened between both companies will not be dying down anytime soon, which means in the meantime if you were still on the fence about the NeoGeo X, you best hurry because it may be taken off the market in the future, assuming SNK Playmore gets their way.

SNK Playmore Puts An End To NeoGeo X Manufacturing And Sales

SNK Playmore Puts An End To NeoGeo X Manufacturing And SalesBack in 2012, manufacturer Tommo decided to bring the NeoGeo back in the form of a handheld gaming console called the NeoGeo X. The console was essentially a handheld remake of SNK’s NeoGeo home console, packed into a more compact body and came with a handful of licensed games. We’re not sure if the console had a wide appeal given that the games offered were pretty old school, but for those who managed to get their hands on it, it was pretty well-received. Unfortunately it looks like if you managed to purchase a NeoGeo X, what you have on your hands would be a limited edition device because it turns out that SNK Playmore has sent a cease and desist letter to Tommo.

According to SNK Playmore, “Upon termination of the License and Distribution Agreement, SNK has demanded that TOMMO Inc. immediately cease any and all manufacturing, distribution, marketing & promotion and selling of the Licensed Products.” This means that there will no longer be any NeoGeo X consoles made and that all current units will no longer be allowed for sale. We’re not sure what happened between SNK and Tommo, but based on the severity of the letter, it’s safe to say that whatever transpired between both companies could not have been pleasant. In any case are you sad to see the NeoGeo X come to a rather abrupt end?

15 More Titles Headed For NeoGeo X Gold Limited Edition

15 More Titles Headed For NeoGeo X Gold Limited EditionDo you happen to own the NeoGeo X Gold limited edition console? If you have answered in the affirmative, then you might be interested to hear that there are more games heading your way, as Tommo claims that from April onwards, they will roll out NeoGeo X Classics: Volume I. The naming convention itself gives the game (pardon the pun) away, as this will definitely be the first in a series of NeoGeo X Classics Games Cards that were specially made for use with the NeoGeo X video game console.

Expect to see NeoGeo X Classics: Volume I to arrive in North American retail shelves later this April, and the kind of titles that you will be able to enjoy in the first volume include classics such as Metal Slug, Sengoku, and Top Hunter. Tommo will also throw in the “ROCKET” High-speed Data Transfer and Charging Travel Cable for free as long as you pick up each copy of NeoGeo X Classics: Volumes I-V. I strongly believe that this will be an extremely niche market, and by comparison, the Nintendo Wii U would be a huge success. Still, there is nothing quite like relieving those old school titles from time to time, no?
