There are no neckties in this gift list. Not even funny ones. But there are some other fun items that will make your dad chuckle, and
that he’ll likely use at least sometime between now and next Father’s
Day and maybe even longer. Here are 10 fun Father’s Day gifts for new
dads, old dads, geek dads, golfer dads, foodie dads, and even single
dads….
I used to scrapbook—yes, I used to take the time to shape photos and
place them over decorative and themed backgrounds and then write
paragraphs of descriptions on each page. That was well before I had
children, when I had time to print pictures and when I had time to sit
and look at them. Since photography has gone digital, my hope has been
to compile photo books for each year’s worth of photos, but I’m seven
years behind schedule. And apparently not up to speed with a new form of
capturing life’s moments. Shapify allows you to create three
dimensional figurines of you and your family. Now you can turn yourself
into an actual 3D selfie.
Barker’s not just any dog; he belongs to Andy Storms, a Seattle
softgoods designer and outdoorsman, who loves to hike and camp with his
best pal. Barker’s a tough dog; he hikes trails with Andy and he can
get down and dirty with the best of them, but when night time comes, he likes to
be cuddly and warm at the bottom of Andy’s sleeping bag. Problem is
that while Barker stays warm, Andy’s feet freeze.
Poor posture, bad back, stiff neck, lack of circulation in your legs….
These are just a few of the dozens of health problems that can be
caused by sitting all day, especially if you’re watching a screen for a
good percentage of it. You could, of course, buy a standing desk. Or,
you could look into getting one of the amazingly versatile Varidesk®
designs that let you move your desk up and down as you stand or sit.
Nice to have a choice, eh?
Bough Bikes is a world leader in the field of handmade all-wood bicycles, having produced over 300 pedal-powered two-wheelers from sustainably harvested French Oak. Now the Dutch manufacturer is, ahem, branching out into electrobikes, showing off two prototype electric wooden bikes at this year’s NYCxDesign.
Otteroo is a water floatie that fits around your baby’s neck and is meant to give her free range of motion while familiarizing her with water. By allowing your baby to move and float without restrictions, the designers of Otteroo believe their product will promote muscle strength, coordination, and give your baby confidence through independence. This product scares the bejesus out of me.
Pet companies have finally realized that the toys most dogs love make a
noise that’s not a squeak. It’s the crisp, crunchy, crackly sound of a
PET (as in Polyethylene terephthalate)
bottle, the kind that water, soda, and other beverages are generally
bottled in. Whether it’s a preferred sound or the feel of the crunch
that attracts a dog to a water bottle, I can’t say, but dogs love ’em. The question is do you want your dog chewing on a potentially harmful
bottle?
