Destroy King Joffrey!: #bringdowntheking

Now that I have your attention… Sure, we would all like to kill King Joffrey, but there is only one of him and so many of us. SKY TV in New Zealand has the solution. They have erected a statue of the despicable little brat in a square in Auckland and they’re giving you the chance to help destroy it.

Obviously this is all part of a promotion for Game of Thrones season four. All you have to do is send a tweet with the hashtag #bringdowntheking. As the statue gains attention in real life and online, a medieval winch will be attached to the statue, with a rope around Joffrey’s neck. With each use of the tag #bringdowntheking, the rope will pull tighter around Joffrey’s neck, eventually pulling him to the ground.

If you are interested in bringing this bratty tyrant down and like the idea of a public lynching, head to www.bringdowntheking.com to see live webcams of the action.

New Zealand is a magical land with or without elves

New Zealand is a magical land with or without elves

Shawn Reeder made this impressive time-lapse of New Zealand after he decided to leave his home to become a film maker travelling around the world. His first stop was the country he always wanted to travel to "for as long as [he] can remember." Looking at this video, it was a good decision.

The untouched natural beauty of New Zealand is like a magical world

I’m one of those horrible humans who take nature for granted and recharge myself through indoor fluorescent lighting. I like walking city streets, I like going into city bars and I like eating city food. Feeling tires screech, hearing sirens wail, coming across unexplainable damp spots, that’s all what I’m used to. But then I get a little taste of nature (through a Vimeo video on a computer indoors, no less) and wonder if I’m missing out on a whole magical part of the world. I probably am. You might be too.

The Bestest Friends Ever Filled a Guy’s Entire Home Plumbing with Beer

Friends don’t get better than this. They could always have your back, they could be your groomsmen at your wedding, hell they could even give a kidney to you and they won’t ever beat these guys who pranked their friend by replacing his entire home plumbing system with beer. As in every faucet would spew out sweet delicious beer instead of water. As in beers on every tap. It’s a dream come true.

Kickstarter coming to Australia and New Zealand ‘soon’

Kickstarter coming to Australia and New Zealand soon

Clue’s in the headline, really. Fresh from tours of the UK and Canada, Kickstarter is ready to land in Australia and New Zealand. The move will enable domestic pitches from Aussie and Kiwi inventors looking for your patronage — not to mention the odd plea for cash from an established company that feels no shame. The site is preparing for the launch with some training events in Sydney and Melbourne on the 1st and 2nd of September ahead of a yet-to-be-confirmed start date. Notice how we got through that whole post without trotting out any tired stereotypes of shrimps, barbies or Harold Bishop? We thought you’d be proud.

This Modern Home Frames the Winery Around It With Weathered Steel

Houses like the Cloudy Bay Shack in Marlborough, New Zealand, make you wonder why anyone would ever choose to live in an apartment (besides, you know, money). Future finally arrives as Martin Jetpack approved for manned test-flights

Image

Every morning, we wake up knowing that the writers of the ’60s, who promised us pill-sized meals and flying cars by the year 2000, had lied to us. But now, a New Zealand-based avionics company has been granted permission to start manned test-flights on the ultimate piece of retro-futurism: the jetpack. The Martin Jetpack, which successfully carried a dummy 5,000 feet above sea level in 2011, has been given a test license by New Zealand’s Civil Aviation Authority — and inventor Glenn Martin is hopeful that a military version of the device will be ready next year. After that, the ambitious engineer plans to release a general-purpose edition in 2015 and although the price has skyrocketed from $86,000 to around the $200,000 mark, we’d probably pay double that amount just to re-enact that moment from Thunderball.

The Hobbit will be first movie to support UltraViolet in New Zealand and Australia

The Hobbit will be first movie to support UltraViolet in New Zealand and Australia

Peter Jackson’s homeland hasn’t been too hot on UltraViolet until now, despite the cross-platform library tool’s growing popularity in the US and UK. That’ll change with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which is set to launch on DVD and Blu-ray in New Zealand on May 1st and will allow both Kiwis and Aussies to purchase the movie on disc and then watch it on PC, Mac, iOS, Android and hopefully even Xbox via a redemption code and a Flixster account in the cloud — with no DIY required. In wider UV-related news, the technology is also scheduled to reach France and Germany by the end of Q3 of this year, which should add a few names to the 12 million account holders around the world who’ve already used UltraViolet to watch 9,000 different titles.

New Zealand Frontline Police To Receive iPhones And iPads

New Zealand Frontline Police To Receive iPhones And iPadsA few years ago, the defacto device of choice for governments and businesses would be Blackberry. However with iOS and Android controlling the majority of the market share these days, the preferences of users have changed, although it is possible that Blackberry could regain their footing with Blackberry 10. However until that happens, it seems that as far as the New Zealand police are concerned, it looks like iOS will be their software and hardware of choice. According to New Zealand’s The National Business Review, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key, and Police Minister Anne Tolley, have said that they will be distributing 6,000 iPhones to frontline police, and 3,900 of which will be given iPads as well.

The police will spend about $3.65 million rolling out this program over the next three months, and $134.7 million over the next ten years. If this seems like a lot, they have also estimated that by using these gadgets, productivity is expected to improve whose benefits are valued at $258.5 million in a ten-year span. The decision to go with iOS compared to Android or Blackberry was thanks to an 11-month trial period that involved 100 officers. Ten years seems pretty long, especially since technology is constantly shifting, upgrading and improving, so who knows, perhaps Blackberry 10 will prove to be a viable business alternative in the near future and we could see a change then as well.

New Zealand Transformer Coins Feature Heros We Actually Care About

For some reason the governments of the world think their constituents want to see images of political leaders and royalty. And while famous presidents like Abraham Lincoln certainly deserve recognition, New Zealand has decided to honor a couple of heros that are probably a lot closer to all of our hearts: Optimus Prime and Megatron.
