Apple provides Pegatron quite a lot of business. The latter is tasked with manufacturing components that are part of iPhone 4S and the iPad mini. It is also rumored to be manufacturing components for the next generation iPhone. Foxconn, Apple’s biggest manufacturing partner, has recently been shifting its strategy so as to end its reliance on Apple’s business. Foxconn is now looking sell products that it creates, designs and manufacturers itself. Decreasing demand of Apple products has certainly got its manufacturing partners concerned, and now Pegatron predicts that its consumer electronics revenue will drop some 25 to 30 percent. iPad mini’s apparently declining demand is a major reason for this revenue dip, considering that this device counts for almost half of Pegatron’s consumer electronics revenue, and iPhone 4S accounts for a substantial part of its .
Pegatron CEO Jason Chen says that revenue decline caused from the iPad mini is “more on demand, while price has been stable,” adding that “Not just tablets, also e-books and games consoles, almost every item is moving in a negative direction.” It is being estimated that iPad mini demand will fall from 20% to 30% in this quarter, as opposed to the previous one.

It is not unusual for companies to take a swing at their rivals in commercials. We’ve seen Samsung mock the iPhone’s features quite a number of times in its past commercials. Recently Nokia aired its latest spot in which it showed Apple and Samsung fans fight it out, affirming that its Lumia range of smartphones rules the third spot in the market. Samsung’s latest Galaxy S4 commercial not only highlights the device’s amazing features, it also mocks the iPhone for not having similar features.
It is shown in the ad that a user can answer their phone by just waving over the S4, immediately after that an iPhone user is shown trying to do that, which he obviously can’t. This commercial also mocks the lack of Samsung’s S Beam like functionality in iPhone, which is used to effortlessly and quickly transfer files between devices. The punch line of this ad: “So some smartphones are smarter than other smartphones?” is said by a character with an iPhone in his hand. Samsung’s campaign has no doubt been meticulously created, it’ll be interesting to see how Apple counters to it when they release the next generation iPhone later this year.

Regardless of the fact that Android smartphones account for nearly 70% of the entire global smartphone market, Apple’s iPhone still reigns supreme on its home turf. The three major U.S. carriers, AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, have released their Q1, 2013 financial results and data collected from them shows that iPhone leads all other smartphones on these carriers.
Apple’s iPhone line-up consists of three models, the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and the current flagship smartphone, iPhone 5. According to smartphone sales and activation figures obtained from the Q1, 2013 financial results, the iPhone accounts for 57% of all smartphone sales in this particular quarter. Recently many analysts have voiced off their opinions that iPhone sales have been disappointing and that Apple needs to release its next generation iPhone if it wants to maintain the lead. Despite the negative sentiment, it is pretty clear that the iPhone enjoys a substantial home ground advantage. However with smartphones such as Galaxy S4 and HTC One being released this quarter, while Apple still offers the iPhone 5, we might see different results in the next quarter. Apple’s next generation iPhone has reportedly been delayed due to production issues.

Analysts usually fire off their opinions in notes to investors, they often make some interesting observations and comments. Steve Milunovich, an analyst at UBS, believes that iPhone 5 sales have been disappointing because its not a killer product. Now I am sure many of you would disagree with him, but he bases his argument upon the idea that iPhone 5 sales have been hit by the popularity of Samsung’s gigantic phablets, which offer greater screen real estate.

Apple announces presumed iPhone 5 launch event for September 12th; we’ll be there live!
Posted in: Today's ChiliApple has just invited members of the press to attend a San Francisco-based product launch event on September 12th, where the next generation iPhone is expected to be officially unveiled. As rumored, it seems as if the company’s prior iPod-focused fall events may be split off into two. It’s been reported that an October event may follow this one, with a miniaturized 7-inch iPad on the docket for that. This event, however, seems a lock for the iPhone 5 — or “new iPhone,” or whatever it ends up being coined — and while CEO Tim Cook confessed at D10 that it would be doubling down on secrecy, leakers seem to have doubled down on tipping the world off on what’s to come. The keynote kicks off at 10AM PT in SF, and you can bet we’ll be there covering every second of it live. Didn’t have any “lunch” plans for 9/12? Looks like you do now.
