Rayman Legends Now Available On PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PS Vita

Fans of Ubisoft’s Rayman series have been looking forward to the release of Rayman Legends for some time now, especially those poor Nintendo Wii U owners who had its release delayed several months from its original release date of February 26. Prior to its launch, Ubisoft announced the game would be headed to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PS Vita and PC in addition to the Wii U in September, which we soon learned the release date would be September 3. Well – September 3 is here and that means you can head on over to your video game retailer of choice and pick up a copy of Rayman Legends today. (more…)

Nintendo Should Follow Sony’s And Microsoft’s Example, According To Bethesda’s Pete Hines

Nintendo Should Follow Sonys And Microsofts Example, According To Bethesdas Pete HinesWhen it comes to games on the Wii U, there are several big name publishers who have chosen not to launch their titles on Nintendo’s latest gaming console, and Bethesda is one of them. Back in 2012, Bethesda claimed that the Wii U’s hardware was one of the reasons the publisher decided not to launch their titles on the Wii U, but recently Bethesda’s Pete Hines has come forward with additional reasons why the Wii U is not on the company’s radar at the moment. Nintendo Explains Minecraft Absence From Their Platform

Nintendo Explains Minecraft Absence From Their PlatformAs you guys probably are aware, the popular game Minecraft has made its way onto a variety of platforms such as the PC, Microsoft’s Xbox 360, and mobile devices like the iPhone, although we’re sure some are wondering why the game is still missing from Nintendo’s platform? We’re sure many are asking that question and when Nintendo was asked about the potential of Minecraft being developed for either the Wii U or 3DS handheld console, Nintendo’s business development manager, Dan Adelman, was quoted as saying, “We’re big fans. We have a continuing relationship with Mojang, and respect all the work that they’re doing, but no announcements at this time.”

This seems to echo Mojang’s Jens Bergensten’s statement from earlier this year where he stated back in March that Minecraft for the Wii U would be “very unlikely”. Assuming this is true and Nintendo truly has no plans to bring the game onto their platform, it would be another blow dealt to Nintendo gamers. So far we’ve seen several big studios pass on developing games for the Wii U, and even third-party developers tasked to port existing titles to the Wii U have also stated that there is no interest in the platform at the moment.

Nintendo 2DS arrives, delivers budget gaming in a slate form factor

nintendo-2dsNintendo has always been one to pioneer new ways and methods to play games, and this time around, their most recent console announcement would target the handheld arena instead of the home console segment. The Nintendo 3DS proved to be the most recent addition to the portable handheld console department, delivering 3D graphics to the masses without having to wear an actual pair of 3D glasses, but the Nintendo 3DS has just been superseded by the Nintendo 2DS. No, this is not a typo, and your eyes are not playing tricks on you, but the Nintendo 2DS will ditch the horizontal clamshell form factor that was first introduced via the original Game & Watch family from the Big N, and will instead adopt a slate format which might prove popular with tablet lovers.

The Nintendo 2DS was specially designed in such a way that anyone who wants to jump into the world of Nintendo 3DS games without having to fork out a bomb for it will be happy with the suggested retail price of $129.99 a pop, where it will arrive in either red or blue shades this coming October 12th. Sure, the main reason for calling the Nintendo 2DS as it is, would be the fact that you can forget about any kind of 3D gaming on it, since the display will be an ordinary 2D display. That might be a bummer for some, but hey, think of the far longer lasting battery life since you need not push the display to a different level of performance, and when it comes to engaging games, there is nothing quite like a super long battery life to get the job done.

The Nintendo 2DS is capable of handling the whole library of packaged and downloadable games for Nintendo 3DS, albeit it will arrive in 2D format. The system itself boasts of a distinctive fixed, slate-type form factor, while you will also be able to grab hold of optional carrying cases that will come in either red or blue colors at $12.99 each. Most of the Nintendo 3DS’ hardware features will be retained by the Nintendo 2DS, including dual screens, game-play controls and touch-screen features. To sweeten the deal, the Nintendo 2DS is also capable of handling the current library of over 2,000 Nintendo DS titles, now how about that? If you are bored, you can also access wireless connectivity features including multiplayer online game play, fun Nintendo Video content and great digitally delivered games in the Nintendo eShop.

Got a 3D Printer? Print This Tiny Atari 2600 and NES

A few years back, I posted a tiny papercraft model of the Nintendo DS Lite that was a big hit. A bit later, I found some teensy paper models of other gadgets and video game consoles. Paper. Isn’t that cute? Today’s geeks skip all the glue, X-Acto nicks and tape mess and go right for 3D printing instead.

    tiny atari 2600

Thanks to Dave Nunez, you can print out your own Atari 2600 and NES consoles. The models are just big enough to fit in the palm of your hand. The buttons and switches aren’t perfectly to scale, they’ve been exaggerated a bit to capture the spirit of the original consoles – in miniature.

You can grab the digital files for the tiny Atari 2600 and NES over at Thingiverse. I figure while you wait for the 3D printer to output your models, you’ll figure out a way to cram a tiny computer inside of these so they’re actually playable.

No Ambassador Program For Early Wii U Adopters

No Ambassador Program For Early Wii U AdoptersBack when Nintendo announced that they would be cutting the prices of the Nintendo 3DS, they launched an Ambassador Program which basically placated early adopters of the 3DS who bought the console at its original price. Now with the Nintendo Wii U about to get a price cut of its own, we’re sure many are wondering if early adopters of the Wii U would be entitled to a similar Ambassador Program of their own as well. Unfortunately for Wii U owners, it does not look like this will be the case. Nintendo fan site Wii U Daily wrote to Nintendo to ask if such a program would be taking place, and the simple answer was no, or at the very least there are no plans for such a program at the moment.

According to the email, “Thank you for taking the time to write with your questions regarding a Wii U Ambassador program. The Ambassador program is only available to any Nintendo 3DS owner who purchased their system before August 12, 2011 and there are no plans for a similar program for Wii U.” This was later confirmed by Nintendo America’s Reggie Fils-Aime when Kotaku reached out to him for confirmation of the email. What do you guys think? Is Nintendo being unfair to early adopters of the Wii U? Or do early adopters of the Wii U not too fussed about it?

How Every Argument About Xbox and PlayStation Ends

How Every Argument About Xbox and PlayStation Ends

It doesn’t matter if you’re talking about the Xbox One versus the PlayStation 4. The 360 versus the PS3. Pitting Xbox Live against PlayStation Plus. Comparing Microsoft and Sony. Even including Windows Phone with the PSP. Whatever. Any argument between Xbox fanboys and PlayStation fanboys eventually reaches the point where they’re both so thankful that they’re not Nintendo fanboys. How about that 2DS guys!
