Verizon-brand Nokia Lumia 928 Parts Surfaces On Retailer’s Website

Verizon brand Nokia Lumia 928 Parts Surfaces On Retailers WebsiteWe’ve seen several Nokia Lumia 928 leaked renderings in the past, so we guess it’s just a matter of time before Verizon officially announces the phone’s availability. In any case for those who were still a little skeptical over the renderings, ETrade Supply seems to have in stock several components of the Nokia Lumia 928, such as its LCD screen and digitizer assembly, the former being a striking resemblance to the leaked renders we saw a couple of weeks ago, possibly corroborating the leaks and the legitimacy of the renders. The components also show off Verizon’s logo, suggesting that the phone will be a Verizon exclusive and that you might not be able to find it in other regions or carriers, unless Nokia decides to release the model, of course. In any case if you’re looking forward to the Lumia 928, take a number but fret not as we will be watching for any news related to it, so check back with us at a later date for additional info!

Unlocked Nokia Lumia 520 Available Now In The U.S.

Unlocked Nokia Lumia 520 Available Now In The U.S.

At MWC 2013 Nokia Lumia 520 was announced. It is an “affordable” smartphone that runs on Windows Phone 8. With a 1Ghz dualcore Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM, 4 inch display with 800×480 screen resolution, 5 megapixel rear camera with 720p video recording and 1,430 mAh battery, the Lumia 520 isn’t exactly a bad entry-level smartphone. In European markets the 520 retails for 199 Euros, and starting today, the unlocked version is available in the U.S. for $224.99. The smartphone is being offered by Expansys.

The Nokia Lumia 520 might not appeal to U.S. customers that much, considering that its next to impossible for it to connect to 3G. Only 900 and 2100 3G bands are supported by the device, which means that it won’t work on 3G networks of AT&T, Verizon or Sprint. One might be able to connect to T-Mobile 3G, but it won’t work everywhere. The only benefit one can derive from it is that the device can be purchased for a little over what one might pay for a high-end smartphone with a two-year contract. Since those are locked to a specific carrier, this allows users to connect to any GSM network they want.

Nokia Tablet resurfaces in patent and Adidas app preview

It’s not every day you see two tips from different sources on the same product the manufacturer hasn’t yet confirmed to exist. But that’s what’s happening this week – and though both tips didn’t appear today originally, sadly enough (that’d just be too lucky), it doesn’t seem entirely a coincidence that both items would be showing up so close to one another. What we’ve got on our hands is the two newest appearances of the fabled Nokia tablet – could it finally be time?

micoach2_9701

First you’re going to want to see the “leak” that appeared earlier this week. While originally this image (shown above) was something we dismissed as an artist’s rendering, it’s source has now had his or her entire site taken down without a trace. If it were only a mocked-up rendering made only to show how the “Adidas micoach app” it’s showing would look on a tablet, the artist would only have left a note, hoping for as much fame from the image as possible, wouldn’t you think?

Still, these are illustrations, and certainly not a showing of any kind of final product from Nokia. If Nokia made them, they never intended to release them with such rough edges. You can find the original (now 404) source at http://cargocollective.com/heyrey#Nokia-Adidas-App – Cargo Collective is a place where artists and designers create their own webspaces and post their work – this is an invite-only community, which again adds credence to the idea that the artist in question didn’t just jump ship when they were called out on their images.

Next there’s a patent application filed by Nokia for a brand new “apparatus cover with keyboard” that you’ll see here situated below what looks suspiciously similar to the Nokia tablet leaks we’ve seen thus far. Engadget discovered this one on the US Patent and Trademark Office listings website where fun bits and pieces go to be registered – and not always come to fruition on the real consumer market.

Have a peek at the timeline below for more information on the possibility of a Nokia tablet and let us know what you think about such a device coming with Windows RT!

Nokia Lumia 920, Lumia 820 And Lumia 620 Ready To Receive Software Updates

Nokia Lumia 920, Lumia 820 And Lumia 620 Ready To Receive Software UpdatesIt seems that the happy trio of Windows Phone 8 powered devices, namely the Nokia Lumia 920, Lumia 820 and Lumia 620, are set to receive software updates in the next few weeks. This new software update will see the firmware of the Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 get bumped all the way to version 1232.5957.1308.00xx, where accompanying it would be the usual standard of stability and performance fixes, in addition to improved automatic brightness adjustment, as well as a fix for the occasional screen blanking that happens in the midst of a call.

As for the lower end Nokia Lumia 620, this particular smartphone is said to benefit a wee bit more from the 1030.6407.1308.00xx update, where it includes much improved touchscreen functions, a notch up where voice quality over Bluetooth headsets is concerned, as well as enhanced camera performance whenever the flash takes part in your photo taking sessions. Do be patient as this update is tipped to happen in phases within this month, so hold on tight and enjoy the ride.

Nokia Tablet Spotted In Patent Filing

Nokia Tablet Spotted In Patent FilingAt the end of last week, we did talk about the possibility of a Windows 8-powered tablet by Nokia, and here we are with details on another possible Nokia tablet which was spotted in a patent application. While this patent application was filed in October 2011, which is a long time ago by tech standards, chances are it would not have been a tablet that is powered by Windows RT as the operating system of choice, not to mention having a slew of different ways when it comes to folding the cover.

Still, that patent application depicted far too many different methods when it comes to closing the cover, which would definitely make life difficult for folks who want nothing better other than simplicity. Nokia has yet to make the jump into the tablet game with Windows 8 in the market, but considering how they have managed pretty well with the family of Lumia handsets, perhaps it is time that they get a tablet off the ground, too. After all, the time does seem to be right.

Nokia patent application outs Surface-esque ‘apparatus cover with keyboard’

Nokia patent application outs Surfaceesque 'apparatus cover with keyboard'

Apparently Nokia’s interested in Microsoft’s tablet cover slash keyboard market, filing a patent application today with the US Patent and Trade Organization for an “apparatus cover with keyboard.” The description is what gives us that distinctly Surface feeling, which calls the “apparatus” a “cover” with two sections, one of which “has a keyboard thereon.” Said cover is “pivotally connected” to a “display” (read: tablet device).

The concept is a bit different visually — at least in drawings, as seen above — than where your brain may be going. It seems to be more of a stand device than just a cover, and it apparently includes a stylus as well. Of course, all of this is still very much in concept-ville, as it’s just a patent application and not even the granting thereof. So keep your salt shakers nearby and all that — this could end up never materializing.

Owners of Nokia’s Lumia 620, 820 and 920 are getting some firmware joy as the Swedish Finnish firm just released a new update for the Windows Phone 8 handsets. You can expect to see it rollout “over the coming weeks,” but may able to force the issue by selecting “phone update” from the settings. Check the source for more.

Update: Nokia’s Scandinavian Nordic but it sure ain’t Swedish. Thanks to all who pointed it out.

Nokia Lumia 620 Firmware Gets Global Rollout

Nokia Lumia 620 Firmware Gets Global RolloutThere has been some talk surrounding the 1308 firmware which arrived in Europe recently, targeting the Nokia Lumia 920 mostly, but do bear in mind that the Nokia Lumia 620 is also a part of that particular update, and it seems that a global rollout has already happened as the Internet has been abuzz with word from owners of the Lumia 620 that they have begun to receive this 1308 firmware update Over The Air (OTA).

How did we come to the conclusion that this is a global rollout? For starters, we have received word from Germany all the way to India and even Malaysia, where Lumia 620 owners have reported that they are receiving the firmware patch that is touted to improve overall performance. Among the other fixes on the Lumia 620 include better touch screen functions, corrections in multi-touch actions, improved voice quality with Bluetooth headsets, enhanced camera performance, and a more stable system among others.
