Nokia Smartwatch Rumored For Q3 2014

Nokia Smartwatch Rumored For Q3 2014Smartwatches seem to be the trend these days and it looks as though almost every tech company has either released a smartwatch, or has been rumored to be release one. Nokia has been the subject of such rumors and according to the latest one, Nokia’s alleged smartwatch is said to arrive come Q3 2014. This will be a Nokia product as only the handset division of the company will be sold to Microsoft, so this smartwatch will be allegedly made by the part of Nokia that is unsold. The development of said device is rumored to be led by Nokia’s head of emerging devices, Axel Meyer, and Peter Skillman, and will feature a bunch of functions that we have seen in the past, such as Nokia Morph.

Like we said earlier, this is not the first time we’ve heard about Nokia planning a smartwatch of their own. In fact alleged photo leaks might have even revealed a possible component of the device, although this is probably the first time that we’ve heard such a “definite” release date. Either way take it with a grain of salt for now, but we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled for more information. With Apple also rumored to launch an iWatch come 2014, it will be interesting to see which company will prevail.

More On Black Update For AT&T Nokia Lumia 1020, Lumia 1520 Gets New Firmware Too

More On Black Update For AT&T Nokia Lumia 1020, Lumia 1520 Gets New Firmware TooEarlier today, we talked about how the Nokia Lumia 1020 has received the Black update, and here we are with more details on that. Apparently, Lumia 1020 from AT&T, being a smartphone that has above average photographic capabilities, sporting a 41-megapixel Carl Zeiss lens alongside a powerful Nokia Pro camera app, will now receive support for RAW images. This would push it up a notch to the professional level, but chances are it will not be able to replace the equipment of professional photographers anytime soon, although it might make for a good hobbyist “toy”.

As mentioned earlier, it will boast of many features from the Windows Phone GDR3 update, including rotation lock, custom ringtones, Nokia Camera, Storyteller, Bluetooth 4.0 LE support, and richer notifications on the lockscreen itself. The update should also have 3051.40000.134x.00xx as the update version, while for the Nokia Lumia 1520, it would receive a bump to version 1028.3534.1347.2001, where that will come with general performance and usability improvements. These updates will cater only for US AT&T devices at this point in time without any confirmation on whether it will arrive on international handsets soon. For those of you who want to perform a manual update, do go into Settings > Phone Update > Check for Updates, and make sure that you are connected to a Wi-Fi network beforehand.

Nokia Lumia 1020 Getting Nokia Black Update Earlier Than Expected

Nokia Lumia 1020 Getting Nokia Black Update Earlier Than ExpectedGood news Nokia Lumia 1020 owners, if you have been looking forward to getting your hands on the GDR3 and Lumia Black update for your handset, you might be pleased to learn that the update has begun rolling out to Lumia 1020 devices a little earlier than expected, which we suppose is a good thing. The update will be adding the usual features that comes with the GDR3 update, and will introduce features such as Bluetooth LE support, Nokia Camera along with new imaging algorithms, Driving Mode, and rotation lock just to name a few. Like we said the update is currently being rolled out so we expect that it should not be too long before you get notified that you have an update waiting to be installed.

However if you don’t get the notification, fret not because it would be safe to assume that the update is also being rolled out in batches, meaning that it will eventually make its way to your handset. In the meantime if you have already received the update on your Lumia 1020 handset, do let us know in the comments below on how the update is treating you! Do you feel like it makes your handset feel like a completely new/different device?

@evleaks: Nokia Moneypenny Could Be Lumia 630/635

According to @evleaks, the rumored Nokia Moneypenny (which we first talked about in November this year, where it was followed by another rumor later in the month that it will be a dual SIM handset) will soon be released in the form of either the Nokia Lumia 630 as well as the Nokia Lumia 635. It remains to be seen what kind of difference is there between both variants, but the model numbers do point towards the possibility of a mid-range or low end handset.

Of course, we are also not ruling out the very real possibility that these will be able to succeed the Lumia 620 and Lumia 625. The thing is, since they happen to be tied to a single codename, the dual SIM version of the 630 could very well be an upgrade to the Lumia 625. One thing is for sure, the Lumia 630 or Lumia 635 should come with something better than a 4.7” display at 480 x 800 pixels.

It remains to be seen just when will either the Lumia 630 or Lumia 635 will be released, and who knows, we might see something over at CES in January, or perhaps MWC 2014 will offer a glimpse of it.

Leaked Accessory Card “Confirms” Lumia Icon Moniker

Leaked Accessory Card Confirms Lumia Icon MonikerAccording to recent rumors, the upcoming Nokia Lumia 929 for Verizon could be known as the Lumia Icon, but since these are merely rumors, it’s quite hard to tell if they are true. Well according to a leaked photo by @evleaks, it would seem as though the Lumia Icon name is confirmed. This is according to the photo above which is apparently that of an accessory card for Verizon, but unfortunately the image does not resemble anything other than some colored and blurred out rectangles. However this is @evleaks we’re talking about and he has had a pretty stellar track record so far, but at the same time we suppose it is safer to err on caution and take it with a grain of salt for now.

For those hearing about the Lumia 929 a.k.a Lumia Icon, the handset is said to be a smaller version of the Lumia 1520. It is expected to pack the same hardware specs under the hood, but instead of featuring a phablet-sized display, it will feature a more compact 5” display instead. An official launch date for the handset has yet to be announced but if the recent rumors are to be believed, its launch has been delayed until February 2014 which is around MWC 2014, so we guess we won’t have to wait too long to hear the official details.

Nokia Files Lawsuit Against HTC In France

Nokia Files Lawsuit Against HTC In FranceWhile Nokia and HTC’s legal tussle might not be as high-profiled compared to Apple vs. Samsung, it has been going on for quite a bit and according to reports so far, Nokia has managed to win injunctions against HTC over in Germany and recently in the UK as well, and not content with just those particular countries in Europe, reports are now claiming that Nokia is looking to sue HTC over in France, presumably with the intent to have HTC’s products banned from being sold as well. The lawsuit in question is the same one that Nokia has used previously and covers the same patents as well.

It is unclear as to what the outcome of this lawsuit would be, but given that Nokia has been successful against suing HTC over in Germany and the UK, we wouldn’t be completely surprised if they were to achieve similar success over in France as well. As it stands it was the HTC One mini that was the first of HTC’s lineup to face the import ban (which was then promptly been overturned), so even though it could have been a potential loss in sales, we suppose HTC should be thankful that it wasn’t one of their flagship devices that was affected. We’ll be keeping an eye for more updates regarding Nokia and HTC’s lawsuit in France, so check back with us later for more details.

New Nokia Lumia 2520 Ad Is Creeping People Out

When companies create ads for the products they’re trying to sell, most of the time their motive probably isn’t to incite fear in the hearts of their potential customers. Nokia seems to have gone down that road though with the ad for its new tablet, the Lumia 2520. Since the ad was posted online earlier today, it has gained a lot of attention, which does fulfill one aspect of an advertisement. However, people who watch it hold the opinion that it is genuinely creeping most of them out.

Its actually quite a task to describe this ad, which ultimately tries to sell you on the Lumia 2520 that is being positioned as a mullet of sorts. Basically its a man who enters what appears to be one of the spookiest barbershops in the entire world, only to be met by a barber that puts Sweeney Todd to shame. The man asks for a mullet styled haircut which could once be viewed as a “business in the front, party in the back,” kind of hairdo. Perhaps that’s the image that Nokia’s trying to create for the Lumia 2520, that it has been engineered for both work and play. You do get to look at the tablet during this mini scarefest, because after all, it is what Nokia is trying to sell. The ad is posted above, check it out and let us know how it made you feel, in the comments below.

Verizon Lumia 929 Might Have Been Delayed Until February

Verizon Lumia 929 Might Have Been Delayed Until February

Over the past few months we have heard a lot of rumors about a Verizon exclusive Lumia smartphone. It is expected to be called the Lumia 929, though recent reports suggest that perhaps it might launch as the “Icon,” which is actually considered to be its internal codename. Verizon is yet to confirm this device, and obviously it hasn’t said anything about it up till now. A few days back it was rumored that the release has been pushed back to January 16th, but apparently it might take the Lumia 929 even longer to hit the shelves. The latest rumor suggests that Verizon Lumia 929 has been delayed until February 2014.

The reason behind this delay is said to be Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia’s devices and services division. It appears that Verizon wants to deal directly with Microsoft, which is why it is waiting for the deal to be closed. Microsoft’s acquisition deal has already received the required regulatory approval, it is expected to close the deal on time, within the first quarter of 2014. The Lumia 929 is believed to have the same internal specifications as the Lumia 1520, which was unveiled back in October. However, the Lumia 929 might have a 5 inch display instead of the 6 inch one found on the Lumia 1520.

Nokia’s Strategy For Selling The Lumia 2520 Windows 8 Tablet Is To Make You Very Uncomfortable

    Screen-Shot-2013-12-17-at-18.30.03-600x322

I remember in the early 2000s a friend of mine through college had a mullet zine, which was an actual print photocopied irregular publication that featured candid photos he’d taken of mullets in the wild. That was the sort of thing that happened in the early 2000s, when mullets were a thing people loved ironically. Nokia thinks mullets are still a thing, and it built an entire ad around the concept of a haircut with business in front and party in the back and its new 2520 Windows 8-based tablet.

Please, by all means watch whatever the hell this is for yourself, but let me tell you right away: it’s weird, and it will make you feel uncomfortable, and it’s stupid. I’m all for a little eccentric fun once in a while, but when you line this fumbled Harry Potter-movie-soundtracked amateur comedy up against Apple’s recent holiday ad, it’s easy to see why the average human reaches for an iPad in the tablet aisle, not a Lumia 2520.

Nokia Lumia Icon For Verizon Rumored For 16th January Release

Nokia Lumia Icon For Verizon Rumored For 16th January ReleaseEarlier we had reported on a rumor that the Lumia 929 for Verizon could be rebranded as the Lumia Icon, doing away with the numbered models. Unfortunately apart from that piece of information, we’re still in the dark regarding a possible release time, but thanks to a new theory, it has been suggested that the 16th of January 2014 could be a possible date. This is based on how Verizon typically likes to launch their products on a Thursday, not to mention the phone could be officially announced at CES 2014, allowing it to generate some hype and publicity prior to its release, as opposed to Verizon just releasing the device outright without any fanfare.

The Thursday theory seems to line up as last we heard, the previously rumored release date for the handset was pegged for the 21st of November, also a Thursday. In any case we will be taking this with a grain of salt for now and suggest you do the same, but with us already being halfway through to December, we wouldn’t be surprised if the handset’s launch was pushed to 2014 instead. While it has not been confirmed, the Lumia Icon is rumored to be a smaller version of the Lumia 1520 and will share most of its specs, except in a smaller 5” body compared to the Lumia 1520’s phablet proportions.
