Nokia Lumia Free Wireless Charger page up but not out

Those of you hoping to take part on the deal Nokia is offering up with some of their new Lumia models, that being a free wireless charger with purchase, will be glad to know that the official claim page is up now. It’s not quite active, but it certainly is up – letting you know that on the 16th of November you’ll be able to come back and grab that charger with a fist full of free. This offer is available here in the USA to AT&T owners of the Lumia 920 and may very well be spreading to more customers soon.

This site will also be working for Phones4U customers in the UK and Ireland, this working for purchases of both the Lumia 920 and the 820 as well (you’ll need the replacement plate for the 820, of course). Phones4U notes: “Free Wireless Charging Plate offer only applies to customers who have purchased a qualifying Nokia Lumia 820 or Nokia Lumia 920 promotional handset available through any P4U store, online or call centre between 02/11/12 and 31/12/12.” This might very well mean that it’s Nokia, not just the carrier, who is making this offer happen.

If so, Nokia will be bringing the heat to many more carriers in the near future – we must assume. Nokia’s wireless charging integration is a relatively simple thing (or will seem like it in a few years time), but at the moment they’ve got it unique to their brand. With the Lumia lineup working with wireless charging AND having this charging plate available for free with purchase of the original unit, Nokia places themselves in a great position – a great value offer being given to consumers. We’ve had our look at the charger already and have found it quite addicting.

Have a peek at our Nokia Lumia 920 review and see our hands-on posts with Lumia 820 NFC and charging as well as our original extended-cut hands-on with the Lumia 920 for both City Lens and PureView. Of course we’ve got additional posts surrounding the PureView technology in the camera as well – see the timeline below for more!

Thanks Steve!

Windows Phone 8 hits Verizon pre-order tomorrow with HTC and Nokia

It’s time for the HTC Windows Phone 8X, Nokia Lumia 822, and Samsung ATIV Odyssey to hit Verizon and start the Windows Phone 8 party on the United States’ largest mobile carrier. Each of these devices will be working with 4G LTE connectivity and will be bringing on what Verizon assures will be an interface that will allow you “new ways to further personalize your smartphone” – as Steve Ballmer has made clear many times. They also assure you that “Windows Phone 8 will debut on a number of new smartphones” as well – can we hope for more Verizon action soon?

We have one Windows Phone 8X review up already – now it’s time to see how the beast works with the high-speed action at Verizon. The Nokia Lumia 822 is quite similar to the original 820 we saw back at the launch by Nokia – and we’ve had Nokia Lumia 822 hands-on time as well much more recently. This device is the little brother of the much larger Nokia Lumia 920.

You should of course have a peek at our Nokia Lumia 920 review to see what Nokia is bringing to the table as far as software goes – the 822 is just a bit smaller and has many of the same benefits busting out around the rim. As for the Samsung ATIV Odyssey – we don’t know one whole heck of a lot about this device yet – even its release date has been kept a secret thus far, with Verizon just saying, “exclusive to Verizon Wireless and available by the end of the year.”

The Nokia Lumia 822 will be exclusive to Verizon as well (as each version of the 820 model has a different number for each carrier, of course), and will be coming in Black, White, and Grey color models for $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and with a new two year contract. The Windows Phone 8X by HTC will be popping up by Thanksgiving in a lovely collection of colors for $199.99 with a new two year contract. This HTC model will come in blue, red, or black – the last two being exclusive colors for Verizon!

AT&T Nokia Lumia 920 coming November 9 for $99

AT&T has finally unveiled its pricing and launch dates for their range of Windows Phone 8 devices. Nokia’s Lumia 920 will be available for a cool $99.99 on November 9, with pre-orders starting on November 7. Nokia’s Lumia 820 will also launch on November 9 and will be priced at $49.99 with pre-orders starting on November 7. HTC’s Windows Phone 8X starts at $99.99 for the 8GB version and $199.99 for the 16GB. The 8X will be available sometime “before Thanksgiving.”

AT&T also revealed an exclusive version of the Windows Phone 8X in Limelight (yellow) as well as California Blue, and they’re the only carrier to offer this device in such colors. These exclusive colors will only be available for the 8GB version of the phone. AT&T also says they will include a free wireless charging plate with each purchase of Lumia 920 for a limited time.

Nokia’s Lumia 920 is the company’s new flagship handset, and it features 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ ClearBlack display with a 1280×768 resolution, and it’s protected by Gorilla Glass 2. It features a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz with 1GB of RAM. The 920′s younger brother, the Lumia 820, features the same processor and RAM specs, but has a slightly smaller 4.3-inch display.

HTC’s Windows Phone 8X has a 4.3-inch display with a 1280×720 resolution. The device also features and Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz and 1GB of RAM. Other than the exclusive AT&T colors, the 8X comes in Graphite Black and Flame Red. AT&T has not announced the release date for the 8X, nor when you can pre-order one, although the carrier says the phone will be out before Thanksgiving.

AT&T prices Lumia 920 and 8GB HTC 8X at $100, Lumia 820 at $50, Nokias due on Friday

STUB AT&T's Windows Phone pricing Lumia 920 $99, Lumia 820 $49, HTC 8X

AT&T is finally spilling the beans on how much its Windows Phone 8 handsets will set you back if you plump for a two-year deal. Nokia’s Lumia 920 costs $99.99, $50 less than previously speculated, and will come with a free wireless charging plate. If your wallet can’t (or won’t) stretch that far, then you can snag a Lumia 820 for just $49.99, the same price as last generation’s flagship. If you’ve had your eye turned by HTC’s much-lauded Windows Phone 8X, then you can select an 8GB limited edition version in blue or limelight (yellow) for $99.99, or a 16GB device for $199.99. Both of the Nokia handsets will be available to pre-order from the 7th (tomorrow) and available on the 9th (Friday), while the 8X should be rolling around “before Thanksgiving.” Now that ‘Ma Bell has tipped her hand, it’s now down to Verizon, which is expected to make its riposte on Thursday.

Nokia Lumia 822 for Verizon hands-on (video)

DNP Nokia Lumia 822 for Verizon handson

Now that Microsoft’s officially flooded the world with good tidings of Windows Phone 8, it’s the turn of OEMs and carriers to get the word out about their own Microsoft-flavored smartphones. We finally got a chance to play with Nokia’s previously leaked and recently announced Lumia 822 for Verizon, a mid-range handset similar to the Lumia 820 on AT&T and the Lumia 810 for T-Mobile that will cost $99 with a two-year contract. Availability is slated for sometime in November — it’s been a long time since we’ve seen a Nokia device on Verizon (sorry, but those Pantech-built models don’t count), so this is rather exciting news.

Spec-wise the Lumia 822 features a 4.3-inch WVGA ClearBlack AMOLED display, an eight-megapixel autofocus Carl Zeiss camera, a 1.2MP front-facing shooter, a Qualcomm dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB or RAM, 16GB of internal flash, microSD support for additional storage, and optional Qi-compatible wireless charging. Radios include CDMA and LTE for Verizon, GSM / GPRS / EDGE / UMTS / HSPA+ for global roaming, WiFi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, A-GPS and NFC.

In terms of design, the Lumia 822 is much curvier than its siblings and the battery cover doesn’t wrap around the sides. The camera pod and flash placement matches the longitudinal setup from the Lumia 920 and Lumia 810 instead of the transverse layout found on the Lumia 820. At 142g (5 ounces) it’s quite a hefty device, but despite being 11.2mm (0.44 inches) thick, it feels very nice in hand. Build quality is solid, which is pretty much what you’d expect from Nokia. The phone will be available in three colors: black, white and our favorite, a stunning shade of grey. See for yourself in the gallery below, and peek after the break for our hands-on video.

Brad Molen contributed to this report.

Nokia Music update ushers in the Lumia 920 and 820 with Artist Profiles

This week when the Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 hit the market with Windows Phone 8, you’ll be seeing updates to Nokia Music as well. This update will bring a variety of new features including no less than Dolby Headphone support – that’s high definition beat blasts for your eardrums like never before! Also included in this update to Nokia Music is full Artist Profile Pages – you’ll be able to get more information on the artists you love than you ever though you’d have wanted!

Each Artist Profile page will include a biography, Twitter messages from their official Twitter page, and upcoming gigs across the planet. These Artist Profile pages also include new Nokia mixes that can be triggered from one of their tracks directly from the page the track is on. This makes it easier than ever to get the lovely precision-collected sets of music you want!

UPDATE: Nokia has confirmed that this update will also be pushed to devices running Windows Phone 7.8 as well – good deal!

Worth noting is that Nokia Music only exists on Nokia devices at the moment and for the foreseeable future. At the moment it appears that this update will be hitting the Lumia 920 and 820 first, but no word has been confirmed on whether or not previous Lumia devices will be able to work with these new features.

The Lumia 920 and 820 will be in stores this weekend internationally and soon – very soon – here in the USA on carriers galore as well. We’ll be taking closer looks at the 920 and 820 in addition to the different carrier iterations of the phones in turn. Stay tuned to SlashGear for more Windows Phone 8 action as well!

Verizon Nokia Lumia 822 official with 4G LTE [Update: $100]

Verizon and Nokia have officially announced the CDMA version of Nokia’s Lumia 820, the Verizon Lumia 822, running Windows Phone 8. Supporting Verizon’s EVDO Rev.A and 4G LTE networks, the Lumia 822 is otherwise identical to the GSM model which will be offered on both AT&T and T-Mobile USA, complete with interchangeable covers and the possibility of wireless charging.

There’s also an 8-megapixel camera on the back, with Carl Zeiss lens, and a 1.2-megapixel front facing camera for video calls. Nokia adds Smart Shoot to the Windows Phone camera app, too, slicing moving objects out of the frame as well as allowing photographers to pick the best combination of facial expressions in group shots.

Nokia Drive+ and Nokia Music are also preloaded, with turn-by-turn navigation, City Lens augmented reality, and free streaming audio. Obviously there’ll also be the Windows Phone Market, with all of the usual apps for Microsoft’s platform, too.

Unfortunately, neither Nokia nor Verizon are saying when, exactly, the Lumia 822 will be going on sale, nor for how much. That may well change later today, however, given Microsoft’s incoming Windows Phone 8 launch event in San Francisco.

Update: According to Nokia USA’s page, the Lumia 822 will be priced at $99.99 with a new, two-year agreement.

Nokia Lumia 820, 920 for AT&T swing through the FCC

Nokia Lumia 820, 920 for AT&T swing through the FCC

Hopefully AT&T subscribers weren’t spooked when the Nokia Lumia 920 first passed through the FCC in only its non-US guise, and its lower-end 820 cousin only as the (currently unofficial) Verizon-ready Lumia 822. The two Windows Phone 8 flagships have had follow-up approvals in GSM versions that are unmistakably destined for AT&T and Canadian carriers. Never mind the slightly distracting RM-820 model number on the Lumia 920; it reveals the 920’s distinctive curved design, 700MHz LTE in AT&T’s range and AWS-based LTE for both AT&T as well as its Canadian neighbor. The Lumia 820 is equally identifiable as the RM-824, even if it limits the LTE access to AT&T’s network. We haven’t seen any shocking revelations from either device, although we weren’t expecting any from phones that hew so closely to the original templates. The filings mostly set expectations for Microsoft’s October 29th event — now that the likely stars of the show are cleared to make their appearances, the companies involved should breathe more easily.

Vodafone Germany expects Nokia Lumia 820 and 920 on November 1st

Vodafone Germany expects Nokia Lumia 820 and 920 on November 1st

Everyone knows that Nokia’s Lumia 820 and 920 are slated to arrive in November. But how soon into the month? Going by Vodafone Germany’s assertions, both of the devices will come just as some of us are nursing our Halloween candy hangovers — that is, November 1st. While neither Nokia nor Microsoft has confirmed the timing independently, it lines up with a brief mention of a similar date at retailer MediaMarkt and would follow just two days after the big Windows Phone 8 event where Nokia is likely to take center stage. Provided Vodafone isn’t just being optimistic, it gives us hope that the North American launches of the advanced Lumias won’t be far behind.
