Nokia Transport beta update download commences

At the end of last month, Apple CEO Tim Cook stepped forward to apologize for Apple’s Maps software which did not perform up to the expectations of the masses, and he did the right thing by asking users of the iPhone 5 (as well as others who updated their iDevice to iOS 6) to make use of other navigation software instead – even those from rivals such as Nokia with their Nokia Transport app. Well, Nokia has made sure that the latest Nokia Transport beta update is now made available to the masses, where you can find additional improvements made to this bit of software.

Nokia Transport beta is now smarter in the sense where it can figure out what you likely want to search for in terms of transport stations, and prioritize them according to your past history just for you. This would mean spending less time going through the possible destination list for that added touch of efficiency in your life. Nokia Transport is available in over 550 cities worldwide, and cities with available and published public transport schedules will see Nokia Transport deliver timetable routing as well.

Take note that there will be a publishing delay of one to two days on Windows Phone Store in your country or region, so if you did not see the new version appear, just check back at the store later, or wait for your handset to inform you of an update.

Nokia wants to become the ‘where?’ company, Lumias to become sensor masters

Nokia's Stephen Elop at CES 2012

Nokia is still taking its lumps in earnings, but CEO Stephen Elop has an idea as to how the troubled phone giant can carve out its slice of the smartphone market: like a real estate agent, it’s all about location, location, location. As he outlined in the company’s fiscal results call, the aim is to make Nokia the “where?” company — the go-to for location-based services, whether it’s Drive, Transport or anything else that locks in on our whereabouts. Facebook and Google are the “who?” and “what?” companies, Elop says. He also imagines that his own firm “could be a leader” in sensors as a whole, tracking subtler cues like the owner’s pulse rate. Whether or not Nokia puts itself in front through positioning, the executive gave a small tease of the future during the call — the next wave of Lumia phones will have “more differentiation,” and both Windows Phone 7.8 as well as Windows Phone 8 will make their way to budget Nokia hardware.

Nokia Transport for Windows Phone no longer in beta

Nokia has decided to take its new Transport application out of beta and place it on the Windows Phone marketplace. If you’re unfamiliar with Nokia Transport, it helps you get from Point A to Point B using public transportation. It gives you multiple routes to choose from and allows you to view earlier and later departures once your route has been chosen.

The app comes with some new features now that it is out of the beta stages such as routes/departures in more than 100 cities and non-scheduled instructions in over 450. Another important feature is the ability to pin all of your important destinations to your Lumia home screen.

Nokia Transport 2.1.0.0 is now available on the Windows Phone Marketplace, but may have not come to your region yet as there could be a 1-2 day delay. If you see version 1.2.0.0 of Nokia Transport, that is the Beta. Have you already downloaded Nokia Transport? If so let us know what you think in the comments section below.
