Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 available on Verizon March 7th for $600

Verizon Galaxy Note 101 available March 7th for $600

We’ve known that the Galaxy Note 10.1 was destined for Verizon Wireless as early as CES two months ago, but now Big Red has finally supplied us with details on when and how much. The carrier will begin offering the Note 10.1 this Thursday, and all it will cost you is a mere $600 for the privilege of calling it your very own. To recap, Verizon’s version will offer Android 4.1 with cascading Multi-Window support, a 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos processor, 2GB RAM, 7,000mAh battery and — naturally — the carrier’s huge logos taking up the most space on the back.

One Swedish Made Light Enlarging Lamp

Simple is an understatement when it comes to the Vinge, a fine piece of lamp from Swedish design firm Note Design Studio. Stripped down to its essentials, the fixture puts out a beautifully soft light as a result of its massive white dome. And if the quality of light weren’t enough for you, the wing around the base spins 180 degrees letting you fine tune the light output to the exact mood you prefer for the moment. More »

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Tablet: 8-Inches of Android Paradise

There are plenty of 7-inch tablets in the Android market, and just after Sony announced their Xperia Tablet Z, Samsung is throwing its hat into the ring with another tablet that’s just a little bit bigger than the others.

According to rumors and tipsters, the Samsung Galaxy Note Android tablet will ship with an 8-inch display. It’s expected to have on board Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, a 1.6GHz quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 5MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front facing one. The 8-inch, 1280×800 display would make this tablet more portable than its 10.1-inch big brother, but at the top end of the crowded Android 7-inch tablet market.

The 8-inch Samsung Galaxy Note Tablet is expected to be launched between Feb. 25 and 28, 2013 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

Samsung Galaxy Note II sales exceed one million in Korea, may hit 10M globally in Q1

By all accounts, Samsung’s Galaxy Note II has been a massive success. The oversized smartphone has now made its way into the hands of more than one million consumers in South Korea, just a month after Samsung announced that global sales had exceeded five million units. At that pace, the smartphone maker is reportedly on track to move 10 million Note IIs within four to five months of its late-September launch, compared to the nearly 10 months that it took to meet that milestone with the device’s predecessor. LG is also reporting similar domestic sales for its aging 5-inch Optimus Vu, so if you’ve taken the plunge on either 5+ inch behemoth, it looks like you’re in good company.

Samsung Galaxy Note II for T-Mobile review

Samsung Galaxy Note II for TMobile review

The Samsung Galaxy Note II is coming to America, and unlike its predecessor, it’s not being as quiet about the move. In a completely unprecedented feat, the mammoth smartphone not only won over the hearts of four national American carriers and one regional network, it did so without having to make sacrifices in its design, specs or even its name. This is a considerable amount of progress when taking into account the fact that only two mobile operators adopted the original Galaxy Note — the inaugural phablet, if you will — and they did so months after its global launch. Heck, T-Mobile released its variant of the Note just three months ago, which likely will be a sour point to early adopters for a long time to come.

As you may have seen in our review of the global Note II, there’s a reason for all of the buzz circulating around this new flagship device; it’s good. It’s very good. Once you get used to the idea of a 5.5-inch smartphone with an included stylus S Pen, you’ll take heed of the incredibly fast quad-core processor, the latest version of Android, the high-end camera and the litany of other top-notch features that have helped the device become worthy of our praise.

This review, as you see it today, discusses our impressions of T-Mobile’s version of the Note II and how it sizes up against the global model (the N7100), but we’re changing things up this time around. Since there will be very few differences across the five different versions offered on US carriers, we’re simply going to add our reviews of each carrier-specific unit to this space as we go along. The idea is that this review will encompass every Galaxy Note II sold stateside. Enjoy the galleries below, and continue past the break as we dig into Samsung’s latest flagship… again.

Engadget UK Giveaway: win a Samsung Galaxy Note II courtesy of MobiCity

Samsung’s Galaxy Note II is one of the biggest phones this year, both figuratively, and literally. The OG Note stretched palms when it arrived last 12 months ago, with its 5.3-inch display, and it proved so popular that Samsung did it all over again — and a little bit more. Not only is it hot off the production presses, we’ve also got one to give away to a lucky UK reader, courtesy of the kind people at online retailer MobiCity. That’s where to send the thank you card if it’s your name out of the hat. And if it’s not? Well perhaps peruse their many SIM-free handset deals and treat yourself all the same. Want to know if you’re eligible to win? Head south for the rules, and then get involved!

The rules:

  • Leave a comment below. Any comment will do. Duplicate entries will be filtered out and discarded, so adding additional comments won’t increase your likelihood of winning.
  • This contest is open to all UK residents — aged 18 years or over! Sorry, we don’t make this rule (we hate excluding anyone), so direct your anger at our lawyers and contest laws if you have to be mad.
  • Winners will be chosen randomly. One winner will receive one (1) new Samsung Galaxy Note II. Service does not come included with the prize.
  • If you are chosen, you will be notified by email. Winners must respond within three days of being contacted. If you do not respond within that period, another winner will be chosen.
  • This unit is purely for promotional giveaway. Mobi-city and Engadget / AOL UK are not held liable to honor warranties or customer service.
  • The full list of rules, in all its legalese glory, can be found here.
  • Entries can be submitted until 10th of October, 2012 at 23:59 GMT. Good luck!

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 now on sale in Canada for $499

Samsung Galaxy Note 101 now on sale in Canada for $499

After landing on American store shelves just a few short weeks ago, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 has officially gone on sale in the Great White North. Priced at $499, the Galaxy Note 10.1 features a 10.1-inch display, a 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos 4 quad processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.9-megapixel front shooter for placing video calls. Sadly, the Galaxy Note 10.1 ships with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but Sammy has promised that it’ll be blessed with Jelly Bean “very soon.” In addition to its snazzy innards, the Galaxy Note 10.1 includes its signature S-Pen and offers 50GB of free storage from Dropbox for two years. If you think this sounds like all that and a bag of chips plate of poutine, you can purchase the Galaxy Note 10.1 at Staples and other major Canadian retailers.

Samsung Galaxy Note II Hands On: Bigger Got Better [Android]

The original Galaxy Note was very not good, but seven months and 10 millions sales later, it’s hard to deny that it’s found a niche. But will its even beefier successor live up to the hype? We just spent the morning fondling the upcoming Galaxy Note II, and you know what? We’re pleasantly surprised. More »

American Airlines to hand out Galaxy Note ‘tablets’ to 17,000 flight attendants (video)

Image

Things aren’t all Champagne and caviar over at American Airlines, not that you’d know it from the company’s latest press release. The Dallas-based air carrier just shared a plan to outfit all of its flight attendants with Samsung Galaxy Notes beginning later this year. The rollout will continue through the middle of 2013, at which point each of the airline’s 17,000 cabin crew members will have their very own “tablet,” which they’ll use to manage flight manifests, track premium passenger meal preferences and monitor weather and gate information in real-time, on WiFi-equipped flights. Eventually, the handsets will also include the flight attendant manual, along with additional features, such as processing for in-flight meal and drink purchases (pending FAA approval).

Though the Galaxy Note II will likely be available by the time the program begins, the press release references a 5.3-inch display, which would imply the previous-gen handset. Sadly, this Note of excitement comes alongside news that some 11,000 American mechanics and ground workers could get a pink slip come November — as frequent air travelers ourselves, we’re genuinely sorry to hear that, and we don’t want any gadget to overshadow the airline’s ongoing troubles and the unfortunate fate of hardworking employees. You can catch that angle at the coverage link below, then read all about the Note program just after the break.

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II firmware update appears, points to Jelly Bean and HSPA+

Samsung’s new full-fat smartphone has hinted at appearances on both Verizon and AT&T, and now an update spotted at SAM Mobile suggests that — just under two months since the original appeared — there will be a Magenta-branded version of the Galaxy Note II… too. Going under the SGH-T889 model number, firmware from September 15th is now available to try — if you have a phone that’s not yet out on any official channels. The site’s sources have said that the device runs closer to a global iteration, lacking any true LTE capabilities, but it’s more than happy to substitute that for HSPA+ support. If you’re part of Samsung’s secretive cabal of handset testers you can seek out the new build at the source below.
