NRA FPS App Ratings Bumped To Those Aged 12 And Older

nra practice range app NRA FPS App Ratings Bumped To Those Aged 12 And OlderShortly after NRA’s app was released on the Apple App Store, a petition was set up to ask Apple to remove it for obvious reasons. Well, I guess there was some mileage to be garnered from this experience, as the NRA FPS app has been reclassified to be suitable only for those aged 12 and above, instead of being suitable for all ages (which it should have been right from the get go, although I say this in my own personal opinion and capacity).

This controversial iOS shooter’s (known as NRA: Practice Range) ratings bump to the “ages 12+” category would be due to the fact that it has “Frequent/Intense Realistic Violence”, but really, 12 and above? Certain quarters feel that the new rating is an untenable position, and the app itself should be removed permanently considering the current socio-political climate in the US.

New York senator Charles Schumer said, “Apple did the right thing by acknowledging that this game isn’t for young children, but should go farther and make the restrictions as tight as possible. The NRA has acted in an unbelievably hypocritical fashion by blaming the nation’s gun violence on video games and movies, then coming out with a game for children featuring assault weapons. Apple should not facilitate children using it.”

Well, everyone has their own opinion on the matter. What do you think?

Apple Petitioned To Remove NRA App

anti nra petition Apple Petitioned To Remove NRA AppRemember our story earlier today about how the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) app on the Apple App Store was made available for free, where it required gamers to be involved in a first person shooter campaign? Well, Courage Campaign, a leading progressive organization, started a petition this afternoon on SignOn.org, where it is hoped that Apple CEO Tim Cook will be able to pull some strings and ultimately remove the NRA’s latest app from their App Store. Adam Bink, director of Online Programs at Courage Campaign, made a statement as reads below.

This is a classic example of everything that is wrong with the NRA. Instead of coming to the table with constructive ideas to reduce gun violence, the NRA is instead developing a video game that glorifies guns and gun violence. It is yet another shameful example, in a long list of shameful examples, of the destructive role the NRA plays in reducing gun violence and making our schools, communities and streets safer. We are calling on Apple to reject this app. It has no business being in the hands of kids across this country.

Are you in favor of the NRA’s app or not?

NRA Releases Shooting Game

nra practice range app NRA Releases Shooting GameThe National Rifle Association (NRA), much to the chagrin of some, has introduced a shooting game weeks after it panned first person shooter (FPS) games. It was just a month ago that the NRA joined the rest of the world in solidarity by expressing their sorrow after the shooting tragedy which occurred in Newtown, Connecticut, and there was speculation as to whether video games containing violent imagery were to be blamed.

NRA stated then, “There exists in this country a callous, corrupt and corrupting shadow industry that sells, and sows, violence against its own people. Through vicious, violent video games with names like Bulletstorm, Grand Theft Auto, Mortal Kombat and Splatterhouse. Then there’s the blood-soaked slasher films like ‘American Psycho’ and ‘Natural Born Killers’ that are aired like propaganda loops on ‘Splatterdays’ and every day, and a thousand music videos that portray life as a joke and murder as a way of life. And then they have the nerve to call it ‘entertainment’… Isn’t fantasizing about killing people as a way to get your kicks really the filthiest form of pornography?”

Funny how the NRA has then released a shooting game so soon after making a strongly worded statement, and while the game is free, it isn’t going to be a worldwide phenomenon like Angry Birds, as it functions as a tilt and click 3D shooter.
