Acer H6510BD Projector brings 2D to 3D with NVIDIA 3DTV Play

This week Acer is bringing the heat with a cool new projector that works with several new-age technologies that make 3D media a reality for your own home environment. With the Acer H6510BD Projector you’ll be supported with Blu-ray 3D, DLP 3D, and NVIDIA 3DTV Play technologies to back you up. At Full HD 1080p resolution with a massive beast of a brightness at 3000 ANSI lumens, you’ll have the Tuesday Movies Night of your life!

frontshot

This projector is able to bring on a fabulous 10,000:1 DynamicBlack contrast ratio for the most crisp execution of graphics you’ve ever seen. You’ll find that you’re projecting at a rather green speed as well with ExtremeEco mode. Acer says that this mode allows you “up to 70 percent” power savings and will extend the life of your device’s lamp “up to 7000 hours.” That’s quite significant, needless to say.

So you’ll be using this device not just to watch movies projected from – for example – your laptop. With a compact size – 10.4 x 8.7 x 1.3-inches and a weight at just 4.8 pounds, you’ll be able to bring it along in your backpack wherever you please. Of course you could also hook it up to your gaming PC and project to a massive wall in your basement for 3D gaming galore – can you imagine a next-generation title like Destiny rocking out at 1080p and in 3D on your wall next year?

With this projector’s 2D-to-3D conversion technology, you’ll be able to, as Acer says, “[convert] into 3D any 2D picture or video signal that passes through the HDMI port.” We’ll see how this tech actually stands up when it’s available for demo rather soon. Until then, you’ll also want to know that you’ve got Analog RGB/component video (D-Sub) for input along with component (three RCA), S-Video (mini DIN), and Composite video (RCA), as well as HDMI (video, audio, HDCP) x 2. This is all joined by regular PC audio via a stereo mini jack.

You’ll be able to buy this Acer H6510BD Projector immediately if not soon for a cool $799 USD MSRP. This price includes a limited one-year warranty and is sure to be irresistible to those of you out there with an itch for 3D on a massive scale. Let us know if you’re planning to dive in!

NVIDIA plans construction of a new, very polygonal HQ

NVIDIA previews a new polygonal HQ

Well, someone had to offer a counterpart to the giant donut. NVIDIA has decided that its ongoing success in 3D graphics and mobile processors merits a suitably geometric new headquarters, so it’s upping the stakes among oddly-shaped offices: it’s planning to construct a triangular pair of buildings a stone’s throw away from its existing Santa Clara campus. Like its upcoming parallel at the Fruit Company, the NVIDIA facility will focus on both eco-friendly design and wide open spaces that, officially, are meant to reflect the company’s loves of art, collaboration and science. Of course, the Tegra creator is quick to admit that it really needs the buildings to accommodate its growing staff count — and we imagine that “make it look cool” was also part of the proposal. NVIDIA hasn’t said just when the new headquarters will be ready, although it will have to make up for lost time if it wants to have Silicon Valley’s star attraction.

Nvidia’s New Headquarters Is Going to Look More Alien Than Apple’s Spaceship

If Apple’s upcoming campus is a spaceship, then NVIDIA’s planned headquarters must be the alien planet that it lands on. Celebrating its 20th year birthday, NVIDIA has announced plans to build a building that looks if not completely alien than at the very least reptilian. More »

ZTE To Ship Tegra 4 Smartphones This Year?

ZTE To Ship Tegra 4 Smartphones This Year?Word on the street have it that NVIDIA’s Tegra 4, which was unveiled in January this year, will arrive in the chassis of some smartphones from manufacturer ZTE sometime in the middle of this year. Yes sir, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer ZTE intends to keep things under wraps at the moment without revealing the kind of naming conventions that they have for the new Tegra 4-powered smartphones, and the first models among the lot will arrive in China later in the middle of this year.

In fact, there are also whispers going around that an LTE “super phone” is also in the works, according to the folks over at ZTE. The flagship smartphone, so to speak, and we do wonder whether ZTE will put in the effort to introduce to folks living in North America (and basically, anywhere else outside of China), to grab hold of the new Tegra 4-powered ZTE smartphones, too. One thing’s for sure, if ZTE is not going to do so, other smartphone companies would not mind stepping onto the plate and delivering some Tegra 4 goodness into the palm of your hands.

ZTE and NVIDIA announce world’s first Tegra 4 Super Phone

The world is about to get its first Super Phone working with NVIDIA‘s new Tegra 4 quad-core processor, and the manufacturer of this masterpiece has been announced as ZTE. This will be the first time the Tegra 4 will be available on a smartphone in the world according to ZTE and NVIDIA, with a release time set for somewhere before the half-way point through 2013. This announcement does not include a name for the device, nor many specifications or a price, but it does let loose that one important bit – first ever!

ztewowzers

With ZTE once again joining up with NVIDIA to bring a “first” to the market, we’ve got to wonder how much of it we’ll see at Mobile World Congress (coming up in just a few days). ZTE generally brings quite a show to the international mobile event, but with an announcement set so close to the actual reveal, we can’t imagine a real bit of hardware really ready for the public so quick. Regardless, we will be seeing something big from NVIDIA and ZTE separately without a doubt.

Check our SlashGear 101: NVIDIA Tegra 4 in detail guide for more information on Tegra 4 as well – pump up your brain!

As far as this first Tegra 4 Super Phone from ZTE – whenever we do get to see it – it’ll be working with Android and will have the full-fledged NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor rather than the NVIDIA Tegra 4i we saw earlier this week. This means that the i500 LTE modem will not be integrated in on the SoC and the amount of GPU units inside will be higher as a result. While the Tegra 4i works with 60 GPU cores, the full Tegra 4 works with 72.

You’ll also be seeing the Tegra 4i in action with the Phoenix Reference Platform before too long as well. No release date has been mentioned with that device either, but we’re crossing our fingers for soon!

With ZTE bringing another hit to the market in 2013, we can’t help but hope that it’ll enter the USA this time around. ZTE is responsible for such cool devices as the ZTE Grand X with the first Tegra processor / Icera modem combo – we saw that last year at MWC as well. There’s also the ZTE U950, a Tegra 3-toting smartphone for less than $160 USD – an undeniably enticing combo.

Stick around in our Mobile World Congress 2013 portal for more information from the NVIDIA and ZTE teams in the near future – we’ll be flying in this weekend!

ZTE to ship some of the first Tegra 4 phones by mid-2013

ZTE to ship some of the first Tegra 4 phones by mid2013

When NVIDIA unveiled the Tegra 4 last month, there were questions as to when it would ship in a phone, or whether it was bound for phones in the first place. ZTE has settled that question with plans to be the first company shipping Tegra 4-packing smartphones. The Chinese phone builder won’t spoil the surprise by naming the devices in question, but the first models reach China by mid-2013. An LTE “super phone” is in the pipeline, ZTE says. With that fresh ground broken, we’re mostly left wondering how likely it is that these devices will cross the Pacific — as well as guessing which other companies are lined up for NVIDIA’s fourth-generation silicon.

Two more Titan-powered PCs emerge, from Digital Storm and Origin

Two more Titanpowered PCs emerge, from Digital Storm and Origin

Both Digital Storm and Origin are getting NVIDIA’s latest GPU, the GTX Titan, the two boutique PC makers announced this morning. Per Digital Storm’s adorable little Bolt PC, a single Titan GPU is replacing the GTX 680 as the most powerful GPU offered, while Origin is offering a variety of setups featuring the Titan (all the way up to four Titans working together in an SLI configuration). Of course, at $1,000 for the Titan video card, you’re looking at a ridiculously hefty price tag for that four-way setup (akin to what we saw this morning from Maingear), not to mention the custom liquid cooling Origin’s throwing in.

Interestingly, Digital Storm’s Titan-enabled Bolt and Origin’s top of the line setup offer two very different real world examples of how NVIDIA’s latest GPU can be put to work. While it scales to the ultraniche, superrich PC gamer, Titan also caters to the more casual PC gamer (albeit one who’s still willing to shell out a good amount of cash). Both are set to launch alongside the Titan itself on February 25th.
