Real Boxing Android Tegra Enhanced Review

This week the folks at Vivid Games S.A. have unleashed the biggest, baddest face-flattening Android game to ever grace the likes of the NVIDIA TegraZone: Real Boxing! While this game has been available for iOS for some time, this edition of the game comes to Android as a Tegra exclusive – having been assisted by the NVIDIA developer crew in optimizing the game for their Tegra 3 (and above) processor, you’ll not be able to get this game anywhere other than your T3-toting machine (at least at first).

With NVIDIA’s contribution to the development of this game – optimization for the Tegra platform, that is – “The power of the NVIDIA Tegra processor on so many Android devices means that the game’s graphical polish and impact are being taken to a whole new level.” That comment comes direct from Remi Koscielny, CEO of Vivid Games. What we’ve seen thus far is a powerhouse of a game that’s ready to show the multi-core processing excellence of today’s most advanced devices like a pro.

What you’re seeing here is a game that comes with a variety of features surrounding one good time of a face-bashing time. You’ll find Unreal-powered graphics as well as motion capture that’ll be breaking your eyeballs with how painful it is – including blood and sweat right up off your athlete. You’ll be breaking down your opponent in this game’s career mode which includes over 30 fights – and three belt titles – you’ll find out exactly what kind of challenge that is when your right in the thick of it.

You’ll find mini games in this build made to train your boxer between matches – heavy and mini bag and skipping rope, too! In-game mini-games appear also, KO and Clinch hone your skills for energy boosts on-the-go. You’ll be unlocking new equipment, opponents, and customizations all along your journey to the top belt – hair, skin, tattoos, and clothing are all up to you to change up as you box out.

NVIDIA’s Project SHIELD demos Burn Zombie Burn

NVIDIA gives us a sneak peak at one of their “5 games optimized for the Tegra 4” by demoing it on their portable gaming device, Project SHIELD. The game, titled Burn Zombie Burn, is a title that originated from the PlayStation 3 and is now finding its way onto mobile devices. The game developer, Tick Tock Games, wanted to delve into the mobile gaming industry, and the NVIDIA Tegra 4 allows them to do that without needing to sacrifice quality. In fact, the NVIDIA Tegra 4 helps them add quality to their thrilling, zombie apocalypse game.

Burn Zombie Burn is a survival game where you fight endless waves of zombies, with each wave (of course) being harder than the previous. The goal is to reach the highest score you possibly can. You have a hefty arsenal of weapons that you can use to take out the hordes of zombies. From bats to machines guns to chainsaws to nukes, you have all the firepower you need to ensure your self-preservation.

NVIDIA’s Project SHIELD is NVIDIA’s own portable, Android gaming device running on their latest-gen processor, the Tegra 4. Project SHIELD is capable of running PC-quality like games and is set to revolutionize the mobile gaming industry. It was one of the highlights of the Consumer Electronic Show this year, and it has many people anticipating its Q2 launch. The device features a 5-inch LCD display and promises around 5-10 hours of gameplay per charge. The screen is attached to a console-like gamepad that should make gameplay feel more easier and familiar. Project SHIELD’s UI runs on Android Jelly Bean and there’s a ‘Tegra’ button on the physical controller that will bring you to your games menu.

Burn Zombie Burn is an intriguing title and one that should keep you entertained for hours. One thing that’s pretty noticeable is the FPS lag that happens occasionally during the gameplay demo. Hopefully NVIDIA or Tick Tock Games figures out the reasoning behind that before they officially launch the game. NVIDIA Project SHIELD hands-on

Just last night we first heard of the Tegra 4-toting NVIDIA Project SHIELD for the very first time, and right here and now we’ve gotten our own opportunity to get our hands on it. This machine is a large piece in a gaming ecosystem NVIDIA is bringing forth to the world combining not only Android and its brand new Tegra 4 processors, but large screen monitors like your HDTV, and PC gaming too! We’ve been shown this device in its current state playing an early version of the new-to-Android game Hawken, Call of Duty: Black Ops II streamed from a GeForce-packing PC wirelessly, and some interesting moves through the device’s unique user interface.

As we spoke about in the initial announcement last night, NVIDIA intends this device to be not only a key device for accessing their NVIDIA Tegra Zone for Android, but to stream games from GeForce GPU-toting PCs as well. NVIDIA assured us today that until the data connectivity ecosystem is strong enough here in the USA, this machine will be streaming games from PCs only over a local area network. That said, it certainly can roll out with undeniable power completely wirelessly – over wi-fi, that is.

It was also made clear to us that developments still may be made before the final product would be launched – both in its software and its hardware. At the moment it’s clear that NVIDIA has the structure ready for prime time, there’s simply a few kinks to iron out as far as which situation requires what action: certainly forgivable given the fact that they’ve targeted Q2 of 2013 for the release – that being still relatively far off and plenty of time for software bug fixes.

The hardware, on the other hand, is extremely close to being complete. While there could be changes to the level of hardness with which the buttons need to be pressed as well as the materials that the casing will be made of, this beast is essentially ready for action. One important point of order for controller aficionados: the now-hard-plastic surrounding the left, right and front of the machine will likely be replaced by a softer plastic in the future – so says NVIDIA. Grippier plastic for a more controlled action experience.

The speakers on this machine are immense in their ability to blast your ears off. I was personally unable to play a game without turning the sound down somewhat – it can get too loud. That’s not to say that the sound is bad – not at all – in fact the sound is both full and deep, ready to be used on its own without a doubt. Another point of order: while most built-in speakers on devices like these working with heavy bass have a bit of a problem rumbling around on a flat surface, this machine’s audio system is set in a way that keeps it still. High fidelity and a controlled experience, top to bottom.

We saw the game HAWKEN in its newest state: Android-based and as high powered as we’ve seen it played on the PC. It seems every bit as immense here on this 5-inch 720p display as it does on the big screen, and from what we’ve experienced, this Android version is going to turn the mobile gaming world on its ear – in the mech universe, at least.

We also saw some awesome PC-streamed gaming with Call of Duty: Black Ops II from a GeForce-packing PC in the same room with this machine’s 802.11n 2×2 MIMO “game-speed” Wi-Fi. From what we’ve seen, game streaming from a GeForce-powered PC to Project SHIELD works flawlessly. Once you’re in-game, that is. By the time this device is released, we’re expecting an undeniably smooth experience start to finish.

NVIDIA TegraZone hits Windows RT: beastly tablet gaming at your fingertips!

As it has been for many moons with the Tegra-enhanced Android universe, so too does Windows RT get the NVIDIA TegraZone treatment: a listing of games made great for your Tegra processor-toting tablet! This listing of games opens in an extremely simplified display with touch-friendly pushing and pulling in mind. What you’re getting here is a guide to games that will work fabulously on your device that’s working with both Windows RT (that Windows 8 operating system made for your tablet specifically) and an NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor under the hood – like the Microsoft Surface with Windows RT, for example – hot stuff!

The NVIDIA TegraZone being available for Windows RT means that NVIDIA will be pushing developers to their limits with a cross-promotional bit of excellence on all Tegra 3-toting devices. If you’ve got a Windows RT tablet with Tegra 3 (regardless of manufacturer), you’ll have a precise collection of games ready and waiting for you to peruse that you’ll know were made with your device in mind. In many cases, this means that the game has features above and beyond what it’d have working with any other processor-toting device.

Here at the launch of the NVIDIA TegraZone for Windows RT, you’ve got a selection of the following awesome collection of games: Judge Dredd vs Zombies, Pinball FX 2, Reckless Racing Ultimate, Riptide GP, Soulcraft, Space Ark, Sprinkle and Vendetta Online. Each of these games is offered for sale in the Windows Store but through the TegraZone is detailed with Tegra-only enhanced features. These features include enhanced physics in water, smoke, and cloth, dynamic lighting and particle effects – and more!

As it was with the original NVIDIA TegraZone, this version of the interface is made for the current most fabulous Tegra processor, but will keep up-to-date with the best of the best in the future. That means here that while the Tegra 3 quad-core processor is king (and has been throughout 2012), we’ll likely see a new beast from the NVIDIA crew for mobile devices in 2013 – currently code-named Wayne, as it were. Keep an eye out! Once that processor is out, developers working with NVIDIA will still be busting out the best of the best, so the TegraZone is up on the greatest no matter when you see it!

The most important part of this whole equation is the relationship that the folks at NVIDIA have with the developers behind these hard-hitting games, and the amazing apps they create as a result of said relationships for you, the user. NVIDIA TegraZone grabs Dreamcast classic shooter “Expendable Rearmed”

It’s time to jump back down the time hole to 1999 with a game that was originally released on the PC and Sega Dreamcast – Expendable Rearmed – here on Android for the first time courtesy of NVIDIA. The developers of this game, Retrobomb, have worked with NVIDIA to create a vision that stays true to the original while bringing enhancements only the TegraZone team could bust out – make great with the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor to back them all up. This beast is a game that’s made to not only entertain your brain with massive amounts of strategy and quick reflexes on the machine gun, but your eyes as well with candy galore.

This game is out on the TegraZone and available for download on the Google Play app store for $2.99 – not one whole heck of a lot of cash when you see what this beast is capable of. Back when it was first available as a disk for your computer and Dreamcast, you’d have been shelling out several times that amount just to play in your home. Now you’ll be carrying around this masterpiece on any Tegra 3 toting device you own: Nexus 7 anyone?

The bad guys in this game are called the G’neg, ready to bust your skull open at the drop of a hat, and to defend yourself you’ve got a clone army of “Expendable” units. No relation to the muscle-sploitation films of recent years, mind you, these Expendable clones are made to be your representation on the battlefield, and you just get one at a time. Your prime directive is to leave no survivors, and your secondary mission is to destroy everything – everything!

Also of note: this game was originally designed and made by RAGE NEWCASTLE, a part of RAGE SOFTWARE PLC, but was taken over by license by Funbox Media – they’ve made it possible for you to continue the fun today. This game runs on all sorts of chipsets, but NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 processor has “all new effects tuned for Tegra hardware”. You’ll be seeing unique water effects, masses of extra particles, and advanced extra shadowing in the full deep dive with NVIDIA!

Android games Bard’s Tale, and Fort Courage hit the NVIDIA TegraZone

In the usual NVIDIA fashion today we have two awesome new games that are launching for Android on the Google Play Store and the NVIDIA TegraZone, exclusively for Tegra 3 smartphones and tablets. NVIDIA has continued to partner with developers and roll out excellent games with stunning graphics and these are no different. The popular PC game Bard’s Tale is making its way to Android, then an exciting new adventure game Fort Courage is launching too. More details below.

Both of these visually stunning new games are launching today, Thursday September 20th, in the Play Store and TegraZone and we have all the details. First we’ll start with Bard’s Tale because for one, it’s awesome, and for two it has some of the best voice-overs I’ve heard in a long while.

Bard’s Tale, from the developers inXile entertainment, you’ll play Bard, a selfish rogue weary of pointless sub-quests and rat-infested cellars. Through song you summon magical characters to join you on your quest for coin… and cleavage! The game is snarky, fresh, and full of comedy. Bard goes on missions all around town, will save the princess if she’s pretty enough, and will battle over 50 different enemies. Bard’s Tale features easily 20-30 hours of deep, fun, and dark humored gameplay. It even has some amazing voice-overs with Hollywood actors such as Cary Elwes.

Bard’s Tale has over a dozen bosses and big enemies to battle, over 150 different unique items such as weapons, armor, tokens, and of course loot. With over 50 achievements, auto-save features, stunning graphics and awesome voice-overs, this game will surely give you fun for the 20-30 hours of game time it’ll take to complete. NVIDIA tells us the Trilogy will be coming to Android soon so stay tuned for more you Bard’s Tale fans! Then a second awesome game has also launched for all those Tegra-toting devices. The game above isn’t really for kids perhaps, but this next one surely is. This is called Fort Courage and is from the developers Human Head Studios who brought us Prey, and Prey 2. Fort Courage is an exciting free-to-play 3D adventure of the imagination. You are an imaginative child that falls asleep during class and wakes up in amazing environments full of interaction and 3D movement only available from Tegra 3′s power. Your courage will help you fight off dinosaurs in the jungle, monsters in special laboratories and more.

Fort Courage is available for many Android devices, but Tegra 3 users will enjoy enhanced graphics, more advanced physics, and lifelike movement. Gameplay involves 3 crazy locations, 9 player skins, 10 power-up options, tons of toys for weapons, and over 15 different enemies. While this game isn’t as deep as Bard’s Tale they mention around 80 hours of exciting gameplay to help you pass the time during class.

Vector Unit brings Beach Buggy Blitz to TegraZone and hands-on

Get down and dirty with the newest game from Vector Unit, the developers who brought you hits like Riptide GP and Shine Runner – starting with all devices running NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 quad-core processor and Android. This beast of a game, Beach Buggy Blitz, bring you in deep with another awesome racing game with heavy physics coming at you from all angles. You’ll see lens splashes, dynamic highlights around all the edges, and motion blur galore.

This game has you blasting forth in a buggy that’s customized by you in a race not against physical enemies – not in a traditional sense – but time itself. Collect coins to gain more time in your clock and make sure you’re not out in the middle of nowhere when the buzzer rings. Once you’ve collected enough coins, you can spend them on upgrades from the shop – and you can trick your car out to the max, as well. The entire game consists of you moving forward into excellence while you destroy all manner of explodable objects.

Horn bursts forth for Tegra devices and hands-on

NVIDIA has once again tied it up with Phosphor Games to bring a gaming title to Android like no other – Horn, optimized for the Tegra 3 quad-core processor environment. This game takes on fabulous cinematics and next-level battle and places it on the mobile platform on a grand scale. With the four cores of the Tegra 3 you’ll be heading off the enemies of the blacksmith’s apprentice, leading you ever closer to the final crown.

Several years ago, such gameplay was relegated to consoles which were made specifically for such gigantic graphic tasks. With the current age of quad-core processors here on mobile devices such as the Nexus 7 (the device we’re having a peek at this game on), we’re able to do this and a whole lot more for a whole lot cheaper. The game Horn takes the Old English tales of King Horn and loosely crafts them into a magical arena of battle and exploration.

This game has you, Horn, moving through a village “overrun by fantastic, and sometimes humorous, monsters”. That said, you’ll have to make it through without giggling yourself to your doom – but you’ll have help! There’s a little beast that you carry around with you that sometimes spits some nastiness as the story moves on.

You’ll be working on enemies weak points, hitting heavy armor in all the wrong places, and working your way through waves of bosses, sub bosses, and “Golden Enemies” – cut them down for rare item drops! You’ll be collecting items, too – make sure you’re aware of what your carrying so you can be all you can be in the kill zone. There’s also an in-game store, a forge where you can upgrade your gear, weapons, amulets, and all sort of other items to rummage through.
