LG 55 Inch OLED TV Price Slashed In Half

LG 55 Inch OLED TV Price Slashed In Half

LG first showed off its curved OLED TV, model 55EA9800, back at CES 2013. It took a lot of time for this 55 inch curved OLED TV to make it Stateside after being showcased at the biggest electronics show of the year. It finally arrived in July last year, costing well over $14,999. The Korean manufacturer has now announced that it is slashing the price in half, and that the 55EA9800 curved OLED TV will now sell for under $7,000.

LG Flexible OLED TV is worth checking out

lg-flexible-oledConsumer electronics giant LG did reveal at the recently concluded CES 2014 a new kind of TV that will certainly blow your minds away – I am referring to the flexible OLED TV here, of course. LG claims that this is the first of its kind in the world, where the TV will not only arrive as a curved device, but you, the viewer, are able to control the angle of the curvature itself in order to enjoy the ultimate viewing experience where it would not have been thought of to be possible just a couple of decades ago.

Hyun-hwoi Ha President and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company, shared, “LG’s Flexible OLED TV is a product that has to be seen to be believed because it defies description. What curved is to flat, flexible is to curved. LG continues to lead the evolution of televisions into the next generation.”

Basically, with this flexible OLED TV, you will be able to use the included TV remote to alter the curvature of the display in order to suit your viewing experience. As for the range of the curvature itself, it is determined by taking into account key factors which will affect the viewing experience, where among them include screen size as well as viewing distance.

Not only that, you might think that this TV, being a prototype to begin with, is going to be small just for testing purposes. I thought so, and I was sorely mistaken, since this bad boy happens to be a 77″ flexible OLED TV, where it has been subjected to tens of thousands of hours of tests in order to ensure the reliability and durability of its unique display. Talk about a “grand slam” of firsts when it comes to the OLED TV universe – being flat, curved and now, flexible. Needless to say, pricing details and availability have yet to be divulged, but it sure as heck ain’t gonna come cheap!

Hands On: Samsung Curved OLED TV Review

Samsung announced today they would be bringing its 55-inch Curved OLED TV (Model# KN55S9C) to the U.S. market, which was previously only made available in Korean markets, for a MSRP of $8999. As the name suggest, the Curved OLED TV uses the the same floating design that was introduced earlier this year at CES, which gives the viewer the feeling content is “floating.” We were given some time to get some “hands-on” time with the Curved OLED TV, or rather, we stared at the TV for a couple of minutes, so let’s get into why this is a TV you’d consider buying. Samsung Curved OLED TVs Get Cheaper

Samsung Curved OLED TVs Get CheaperIf you love being an early adopter, there are risks attached to it – you will first need to fork out a whole lot more money than other people to enjoy the latest technology, but that is the price to pay (which some claim is too high for their salary sale). After all, there is no such thing as a free lunch in this world, is there? We have heard of Samsung and LG delivering Curved OLED TVs to the market, and these puppies are not cheap in the first place, so it is a pleasant surprise to hear that Samsung has decided to slash the price of their new 55-inch curved OLED TV, while LG has decided to deliver more affordable versions of its 55- and 65-inch 4K TVs, dropping some premium features along the way.

Where Samsung is concerned, the price cut would see it drop to $8,910 from $13,500 after conversion – which would equal to a 34% drop. This is a considerable margin, and if anyone could have exhibited the kind of patience that Job had, he or she could have saved a few grand along the way, which could have been used to purchase, er, other items to fulfill your hedonistic lifestyle.

Samsung Curved OLED TV introduced in South Korea

So, you think that you have the best looking TV in the neighborhood, do you? Back in the day of chunky CRTs, it was flat screen TVs that ruled the roost, showing the rest of the world that you have arrived if you happened to have one of those flat Trinitrons from Sony, or the Panasonic Tau. After that, along came the LCD revolution, which was subsequently accompanied by plasma, and at a later time, LED and OLED, where all of these had a few common characteristics – extremely slim form factors and of course, the flat screen to offer a fantastic viewing experience. Well, it seems that the curve is back, although this time around, it will be in the inverse to those of chunky CRTs of yore, as Samsung recently made available their Curved OLED TV in Seoul, South Korea.

You could more or less say that the Curved OLED TV marks a new level in innovation which will be able to deliver immaculate true-to-life pictures regardless of the angle that you are viewing from, and neither does the vantage point matter that much as before, thanks to its unique curved display. Being carefully crafted to accentuate its ‘Timeless Arena’ design, the Samsung Curved OLED TV remains at the cutting edge of technology courtesy of the Multi View feature and the Evolution Kit.

Just what gives an OLED display an edge over the others? Well for starters, Curved OLED is capable of delivering flawless picture quality as it comprises of thousands of self-emitting diodes which are capable of offering richer and brighter images compared to existing TVs that are in the market. However, these would require complex production methods, and it is a task that Samsung is up for thanks to its technology which has the intention to eliminate the potential for defective pixels. All 70” of viewing glory can be yours for KRW 15 million, which roughly translates to $13, 230 after conversion. Would you go for a car, or a new Curved OLED TV?
