LG Curved OLED TV Sales Kick Off

LG Curved OLED TV Sales Kick OffAt the beginning of the year on the mad house that is known as CES in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Ubergizmo team managed to capture images of the curved OLED TV from LG, coupled with a closer look at it, naturally. Well, sometime in the middle of this month, we brought you word that the curved OLED TV from LG was about to go on sale pretty soon, and it did not take too long between that announcement and now for it to happen, as LG Electronics has just announced that they would begin to accept pre-orders for this 55” behemoth, going by the model number 55EA9800 in South Korea, where deliveries are expected to kick off from next month onwards.

Over 1,400 LG retail stores in South Korea will be up to the task of taking those orders for the premium TV, which has been slapped with a price point of approximately $13,500. This would clearly make LG stand head and shoulders above its rivals, being the first and only consumer electronics company at the moment to commercialize both the flat screen OLED TV as well as the curved OLED TV.

LG unveils 55” OLED TV in the UK

You know that most modern day homes these days have a large, flat screen TV sitting in the middle of the living room, but how many of those do look as sexy as what LG has to offer? LG Electronics has just announced their latest 55” OLED TV for folks living in the UK, and just in case you were wondering, yes, this is the model that laid claim to the “world’s first” title, where it was showcased exclusively at Harrods Technology, and will be made available to those who have placed their pre-order as it is delivered later this July.

The LG OLED TV, also known as the 55EM970V if model numbers are your cup of tea, measures a scintillating 4.5mm thin, and despite its 55” size, it weighs under 10 kilograms, now how about that? Despite being super thin that we still find it rather difficult to believe, it is still capable of producing exceptional picture quality as well as delivering spectacularly vivid and accurate colors, thanks to its superior WRGB technology.

Brian Na, President of LG Electronics UK, said, “We are proud to be the first in the world to offer consumers a big screen OLED TV. LG’s next generation display is a true game changer, which will forever alter the way we think about TVs. Since OLED TV was first unveiled, we’ve been working tirelessly to bring what we call ‘the ultimate display’ to market. I’m sure you’ll agree that our 55-inch OLED TV has definitely been worth the wait.”

LG’s OLED TV will merge their leading Smart TV technology and Cinema 3D capabilities, in addition to edge-to-edge Cinema Screen Design, resulting in the most immersive and complete home entertainment experience, not to mention having the kind of stunning style to go along with it. The asking price for the LG 55EM970V? It retails for a whopping £9,999.99. Eeps!

LG Loves Curves With EA9800 OLED TV

lg curved hdtv 640x359 LG Loves Curves With EA9800 OLED TV[CES 2013] LG knows that the wandering eyes of men tend to have an affinity towards curves, which is why LG has taken this opportunity to unveil the LG EA9800 OLED TV that boasts of proprietary WRGB technology, coming in an incredibly thin form factor that features a dramatic curved design while offering a vivid picture quality which LG claims is practically indiscernible from colors found in nature. Sounds rather lofty, so you will have to see it for yourself to verify or debunk that.

What makes the new LG EA9800 OLED TV different from other models in the industry would be the fact that this is the first curved screen ergonomically designed TV to come with full CINEMA 3D support. Thanks to a gentle inward flex, the entire screen surface remains at an equidistant from the viewer’s eyes, hence solving, hopefully once and for all, the issue of screen-edge visual distortion and detail loss. There has been no word on availability and pricing as at press time, but we do hope that the LG EA9800, when released, would not be too harsh on our pockets. [Press Release]

LG goes curvy with new OLED TV

CES is a hotbed for technological innovations being announced, and LG has decided to grab the bull by its horns with the latest announcement of its OLED TV, coming in the form of the LG EA9800. The big question is this, just what makes the LG EA9800 so special from all of the other OLED TVs that are in the market? How about this answer for starters – it comes in a curved manner, boasting proprietary WRGB technology in an incredibly thin form factor so that your eyes will be treated to vivid picture quality which has been said to be practically indiscernible from colors which you find in nature.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating, or so the adage goes, so how does the LG EA9800 OLED TV stack up when viewed? Since it carries the industry’s very first curved screen ergonomic design with full CINEMA 3D support, we do not really have any other benchmarks to fall back upon. Still, with a gentle inward flex, the entire screen surface is said to be equidistant from the viewer’s eyes, which in layman’s terms, would mean doing away with the issue of screen-edge visual distortion and detail loss.

Needless to say, something of this size and magnitude where technological advancements are concerned have yet to be priced, nor do we know whether LG intends to make it available to the consumer market this year or not. After all, many hardware manufacturers do take the opportunity at CES to gauge the temperature of consumers’ pockets before agreeing to a sticker price that everyone would be happy with.

Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company, said, “LG is the first to launch the 55-inch OLED TV. We believe our new OLED TVs offer the ultimate viewing experience, surpassing anything seen before. The new curved model complements our core OLED TV family with a unique design that capitalizes on the thinness of the screen and the aesthetic beauty of OLED TV.”

Panasonic Debuts World’s First 4K Printed OLED TV, Just Half An Inch Thick

IMG_4212

Panasonic showed off a unique new kind of OLED TV today onstage at the CES 2013 keynote, which is manufactured using 3D printing technology. The 56-inch television is incredibly thin, at just half-an-inch thick, and weighs a fraction of previous generation LED sets. The use of 3D printing tech should also eventually help super high resolution OLED TVs come down to manageable pricing levels, as the manufacturing process improves over time.

The TV was only displayed onstage briefly, and Panasonic CEO Kauhiro Tsuga didn’t share any details about when it would be available to consumers or at what price, but we’ll be seeking out the set on the show floor later. Judging by initial impressions from where we’re sitting, it’s a very impressive device with a screen that looks amazing even from a distance of about 30 to 40 feet back.

LG Televisions To Feature OLED, UHD And New User Experience At CES 2013

LG Smart TV ces 2013 LG Televisions To Feature OLED, UHD And New User Experience At CES 2013[CES 2013] LG has announced that it will demonstrate a new range of televisions including a huge 84″ that features a UHD/4K resolution, and a 55-inch OLED model which will be the follow-up of last year’s introduction of OLED televisions as official LG “commercial products”. It’s clear that UHD is best demonstrated with larger sizes and so far, most 84″ television that we’ve seen (including Sony’s own Sony XBR-84X900 84″ LED TV) have looked extraordinary.

However, the real question for both OLED and UHD TVs is: how fast can the prices drop? It seems really hard to sell a 55-inch OLED TV for $8000, so this has to come closer to $3000 before people start buying in volume. The 84″ has to drop by quite a bit as well. We’ve seen 70″ TVs (1080p) going for less than $2000, so although UHD is very good-looking, the lack of content and the high price tag may prove difficult to overlook for you and I. Yet, it’s hard to be insensitive to the sheer beauty of UHD on a 84″ display. (more…)

Samsung and LG 55-inch OLED TVs delayed to 2013

If you were getting excited about the prospect of paying $10,000 for a 55″ OLED TV from Samsung or LG, this may put a damp on your project. Both companies will probably won’t ship their television in 2012. According to market researchers, it is simply very hard to mass-produce those panels with acceptable yields (ratio vs. good and defective units) so that selling those new TV is a profitable business.

Yields have always been a problem with displays in general. This comes from the fact that the larger a display is, and the more likely there will be a problem somewhere on it that makes it unusable during manufacturing. In any case, TV manufacturers are usually able to work those issues out, and the relatively high price of the 55″ OLED TV sets does take that into account – to a point.

Now, it’s really a matter of time until both LG and Samsung reach yields that they are comfortable with. Apparently, this will not happen in 2012 and it’s not clear when it would happen in 2013. What do you think and at what price price point would you get an OLED TV?
