HTC One X Rumored To Receive Android 4.2.2 Update With Sense 5 In June/July

HTC One X Rumored To Receive Android 4.2.2 Update With Sense 5 In June/JulyUnfortunately unlike iOS devices where once an update has been made available, all devices receive it, Android users are subject to longer periods of waiting where they will have to either wait for the device manufacturer to release the update, wait for their carrier to release it, or they will have to flash a custom ROM that is built around the update. Either way if you’re a HTC One X owner and if you were wondering if HTC would be leaving you out in the cold after the announcement of the HTC One, fret not because according to a new rumor, the HTC One X could be seeing an update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Sense 5 sometime around June or early July.

This is via @LlabTooFeR, a source who has in the past been pretty spot on when it comes to HTC rumors. HTC did confirm that the One X would receive Sense 5, although they did not mention if the device would receive the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update as well, but if this rumor is true, then we guess HTC One X users will have a reason to celebrate. In any case June/July is still pretty far off, so we guess we will just have to wait and see if this rumor pans out, but any HTC One X owners out there excited by this news?

HTC One X+ for AT&T: what’s different?

HTC One X for AT&T what's different

We just love HTC’s One X here at Engadget — it’s quite possibly our favorite smartphone of 2012. Three devices have crossed our desks over the past year — the original with HSPA+, AT&T’s model with LTE and, more recently, the global One X+ with HSPA+. Now the saga continues with AT&T selling its own version of the One X+ with LTE on board. What’s different between these handsets? How does AT&T’s $200 variant stack up against its global counterpart? Is it worth spending an additional $100 (or more) for AT&T’s One X+ versus the original One X? Does the bump in storage (64GB vs. 16GB) make up for the lack of color options? Find out after the break.

Gift Guide: HTC One X+

giftguide-1280px-htc-one-x+

Short Version

Android phones! There are some that I love. The HTC One X was one of those, thanks to a very attractive external package alongside an Android skin (Sense) that had a fairly light touch and didn’t mess with most of Android’s good features, but brought some nice additional touches to the mix. The HTC One X+ is like the One X, but made better in nearly every important respect. Not surprisingly, that improves my impression of it, too.

Long Version

Features:

  • Fast, quad-core processor
  • LTE network support
  • 64GB of built-in storage

Info:

  • Android 4.1
  • 1200 x 720, 4.7-inch display
  • MSRP: $650 unlocked, $199.99 on two-year term
  • Product page

The HTC One X+ is…

… A powerful upgrade of HTC’s well-designed and executed HTC One X flagship Android phone. It brings an improved quad core processor to the mix, which is double the number of cores on the U.S. version of the One X, and it’s faster at 1.7 GHz. It has double the storage of the One X, and a beefier battery at 2100mAh. That’s especially nice, because the original already impressed with its 1800mAh power reserve.

Buy the HTC One X+ for…

… Anyone looking for their first Android phone. Seriously, the One X+ is a fantastic device that improves on its predecessor where it counts (performance and battery life) and leaves everything else pretty much the same. That’s a very good thing. Especially for newbies, HTC’s phones do a good job of delivering Android in a package that may not appeal to Android purists, but that definitely hits a sweet spot for general users.

Because…

… HTC just quietly goes around doing a great job at making smartphones. It’s amazing to me that this company doesn’t get more of the U.S. consumer market. Samsung makes some fine phones, but if I’m feeling a little Android, I’d much rather grab the One X+, despite better battery life and cameras on the Galaxy S III and Note II. The only real downside of this device is that it’s still a little pricy on contract, but if you’ve got the money and Samsung’s designs just don’t excite you, this is the way to go.

HTC One X Jelly Bean Update Goes Global

Waiting is tough. But in the end, it’s all worth it. You already know that HTC started pushing Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates to its One X smarphones in October. But a few of our readers are still saying that they haven’t received the update yet. It’s important to note that the update is going to be gradual. Today, we are hearing a few unlocked HTC One X owners receiving the Jelly Bean update. The update is now making its way to devices having the CIDs 038 and 044 in India, Argentina, U.K., Russia, Dominican Republic, Peru, Brazil, and Sri Lanka. More markets will be receiving the update shortly. If you don’t know how to check the CID of your device. Just go Google Play and search for CID. The Jelly Bean update is expected to be around 364.54MB. Cheers!

AT&T HTC One X+, One VX launch details leaked?

Here is the latest on the grapevine – it seems as though AT&T will be making available the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the HTC One X+ and the HTC One VX, as both smartphones seem scheduled for a release in the US later this Friday – which is November 16th. Of course, not everyone thinks that the HTC One X+ is the bee’s knees as it has not managed to ensure the HTC One X series is brought up to a whole new level, but at least it does fix some of the original One X’s shortcomings – mainly be noticeably faster compared to its predecessor. As for the mid-range HTC One VX, this is not as impressive, but it still packs quite a punch where hardware specifications are concerned, and to hear that it will run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is definitely a boon.

The AT&T will sell the HTC One X+ for approximately $200 with a new 2-year contract, and the HTC One VX will be sold for a whole lot less – we are talking about approximately $50 on-contract. Anyone interested in picking up either one of the phones now that your contract is about to expire?

HTC One X Plus Review: Basically the Same Awesome Phone

We’ve said before that the HTC One X is one of the best Android Phones you can buy. The One X + ups the phone’s already impressive specs with a 1.7 Ghz quad-core Tegra 3 processor. And HTC’s clearly heard customers whining about battery life, because the Plus packs a 2,100 mAh battery. Can HTC’s new heater fight the good fight against the likes of Samsung’s hot rod Galaxy SIII? International HTC One X receives Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update

It seems that the international version of the HTC One X will finally be on the receiving end of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. Yes, this is the quad-core processor powered One X that lacks LTE connectivity, and you will have to bear in mind that not all models of this smartphone will receive the update simultaneously, so you will just have to be patient. HTC works this way – they will release their operating system updates by region using the handset’s CID (Customer ID) number. In a nutshell, handsets with a CID of htc_612, which are sold to carriers in Taiwan, ought to have started to receive the update since last Friday.

As for HTC One X units that carry a CID of htc_044, those ought to have received the update by today if they haven’t done so already. It was earlier in October that a version of Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean was leaked for the international HTC One X, and folks who gave that unofficial version a go claimed that it was extremely smooth like butter, achieving a Quadrant Benchmark test score of 7031 in the process.

HTC One X sees Jelly Bean rollout in Taiwan and Singapore, One S update reportedly coming soon

HTC One X sees Jelly Bean rollout in Taiwan and Singapore, One S update reportedly coming soon

We’ve known for months that HTC intends to upgrade the One X to Jelly Bean, but now it appears the update is finally going live, at least for folks in Taiwan. Members of the XDA Developers forum are chiming in about a 352.87MB OTA update that’s available within both HTC’s home country and Singapore, which brings Android 4.1.1 and HTC Sense 4+ to the One X. Jelly Bean’s appearance for the handset matches an earlier report from Engadget Chinese of an incoming update promised by HTC Taiwan. According to PocketDroid, general manager of HTC North Asia, Jack Tong, announced that One X users within Asia will see the update begin to roll today, and that the One S will also receive Jelly Bean a tad later. We’ve reached out to HTC to verify Mr. Tong’s comments, and for clarification of specific regions throughout Asia.

[Thanks, Ryan]
