LG Optimus G Android 4.4 KitKat Begins Rolling Out For Some Users [Update]

LG Optimus G Android 4.4 KitKat Begins Rolling Out For Some Users [Update]

Just a few months ago, LG France accidentally confirmed its LG Optimus G would be receiving Android 4.4 KitKat some time in October, although if you’re an owner of the 1-year-old Android smartphone, you’re probably well aware KitKat has yet to come your way. In fact, November came and went and still no Android 4.4 KitKat, but December looks like it’s the sweet month as the latest version of Android has started to roll out for the LG Optimus G. (more…)

LG Optimus G To Get Android 4.4 KitKat Update In October, According To LG France

LG Optimus G To Get Android 4.4 KitKat Update In October, According To LG FranceBack in 2012, LG announced the LG Optimus G handset and given that the handset is almost a year old, it makes it “old” as far as smartphones are concerned. Well the good news is that if you were hoping that the handset would get a new lease on life with the Android 4.4 KitKat update, you might be in luck as LG France might have confirmed that the handset would indeed be receiving the update and that it has been planned for a release in October. This is according to a conversation a user had with an LG representative, in which the LG rep pretty much stated that the update has been planned for a release this October.

While that does sound like good news, it should be noted that this is a private conversation had on Facebook, meaning that there’s really no way of telling if the conversation is for real or if it has been made up. Secondly there’s no telling if the rep’s statements are accurate or if it could be something that they are speculating themselves, so take it with a grain of salt for now, but at the same time given that we are already in October, we’ll definitely keep our eyes peeled for more information. In the meantime until LG makes an official announcement of sorts, try not to get your hopes up just yet.

AT&T LG Optimus G Receives Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Update

AT&T LG Optimus G Receives Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean UpdateSprint introduced the Android Jelly Bean for a variant of the LG Optimus G in March this year, and it seems that rival mobile carrier AT&T is going to follow in their footsteps as well, serving up a nice dose of Jelly Bean goodness for the LG Optimus G. Of course, there was no official fanfare or announcement made, although there were owners of the LG Optimus G who ride with AT&T and they have shared a fair amount of tips as well as screenshots like the one you see above, showing that this is no belated April Fool’s joke, but rather, the real deal itself.

So, LG Optimus G owners on AT&T, how has your smartphone fared so far? Have you received the official update Over The Air automatically? I am quite sure that if this is the case for some folks, an official confirmation should be well on its way in due time, all we need to do now is sit tight and play the patience game. Of course, it would not hurt either to perform manual checks on your device for the new software.

Sprint LG Optimus G Receives Jelly Bean Update

Sprint LG Optimus G Receives Jelly Bean UpdateLooks like the weather report for today should read something like this, “We expect clouds and thunderstorms, with plenty of Jelly Beans dropping from the sky.” How come? Well, earlier today we brought you word that not only did the HTC One X over at AT&T pick up the long awaited Jelly Bean update, so too, has Motorola declared that their Droid RAZR as well as Droid RAZR MAXX, will be on the receiving end of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. Fast forward to now, and we have word that Sprint’s LG Optimus G too, will finally be getting the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update.

Considering the latest version of Android has been Android 4.2 (still under the Jelly Bean moniker, of course), it is nice to see Sprint doing their bit to get things up to speed to a certain extent. This particular Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update comes across as an Over The Air (OTA) download, so what are you waiting for?

LG Optimus G Arrives In Europe

LG Optimus G Arrives In EuropeFolks living in Europe tend to get the shorter end of the gadget stick, but from time to time, there would be exclusive releases of a device that hits Europe before it arrives Stateside. This time around, the LG Optimus G has been announced to arrive in Europe later this month, never mind the fact that the more advanced LG Optimus G Pro has already been announced for a South Korea release earlier this week. Well, the LG Optimus G was first introduced in select markets at the end of last year. I suppose it was more of a show of whether markets would be receptive to the Optimus G or not, as this smartphone will debut in Sweden this month, with other European markets such as France, Germany and Italy to follow thereafter.

Well, the LG Optimus G that is Europe-bound will come with a vibrant 4.7-inch 1280 x 768 resolution IPS display which will be protected by scratch resistant Gorilla Glass 2, and LG claims that when it works in tandem with the Zerogap Touch technology, you can be sure that you (or rather, your eyes) ought to experience an extremely vivid display while your fingers will revel in the “smoothest, most sensitive touch experience on a smartphone today.” Really? You know what they say about such announcements and claims, you have got to try it out to believe it. Frankly, do you think that the Optimus G will have an audience right after the Optimus G Pro’s official announcement? Perhaps this is not a good time to quote “better late than never”…[Press Release]

LG Optimus G Kicks Off Global Rollout

lg optimus g world LG Optimus G Kicks Off Global Rollout The LG Optimus G is rightfully LG’s most premium and powerful 4G LTE smartphone to date, although we are quite sure that this situation will change sometime down the road, but it is not the time yet. In fact, LG has announced that they will start to roll out the smartphone in more than 50 countries later this month – although folks in North America, Korea and Japan have already managed to get hold of this LTE device, other LTE markets will soon be able to get an idea on what the brou-ha-ha is all about. .

A PR blast from Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, “As 4G LTE availability expands on a global scale, we will leverage our strong LTE technology and expertise to offer consumers the best 4G experience through our devices. With the latest Jelly Bean OS and improved software, Optimus G will make a strong case for the title of ultimate premium 4G LTE smartphone.”

Singapore will receive the Optimus G first at the end of this month, followed by other markets worldwide offering 4G LTE service. [Press Release]

LG Sells Over 1 Million Optimus G Smartphones Worldwide

LG Optimus G 00 LG Sells Over 1 Million Optimus G Smartphones WorldwideThe LG Optimus G, which we reviewed last year, seems to be doing pretty good in terms of sales. The South Korean conglomerate announced today that it has sold more than 1 million Optimus G smartphones worldwide since its launch in September last year. LG also announced that it sold a total number of 7 million smartphones worldwide in Q3 last year. That will also include the wide-looking Optimus Vu, which was weird at first because of its fat design. (more…)

Hack Converts LG Optimus G’s Software Into A Nexus 4

Google Nexus 4 Review 14 640x424 Hack Converts LG Optimus Gs Software Into A Nexus 4

From humble beginnings, the Android stock keyboard has become excellent

The LG Nexus 4 is a device that’s becoming increasingly difficult to get these days. Some of it might have to do it with its popularity thanks to its impressive hardware specs and affordable price tag, while other reasons might have something to do with the supply of phones to the Google Play store. In any case if you wanted the LG Nexus 4 experience, the closest thing you might be able to find would be in the form of the LG Optimus G which more or less shares the same hardware specs as the Nexus 4, with the glaring difference being in its design, of course. Thanks to the folks at XDA Developers, such as G33k3r and Rohan32, what they have managed to do is cook up a hack that will convert an LG Optimus G into a Nexus 4.

Of course the exterior design of the phone will remain the same, needless to say, but the hack will transform the software to mimic the Nexus 4. This includes swapping out LG’s customized software elements to that of the Nexus 4, disabling of LTE, caps the internal storage to 8GB and in order to update it, will also require Nexus 4 firmware! Of course the limiting of internal storage and disabling of LTE doesn’t make sense, but that’s pretty much what you might expect from the Nexus 4 had you ordered one when the device was first announced. In any case if you have some time to spare and you have experience in flashing custom ROMs, then perhaps this might be worth taking a look into, although we have to caution you to proceed at your own risk.

LG Optimus G Receives Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update In South Korea

LG Optimus G Receives Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update In South KoreaWhile the LG Optimus G might be the first Android smartphone to offer a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, the “downside” was that it came with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich versus Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which we think could have made the experience even better, partly in thanks to Project Butter. In any case if you own an LG Optimus G, you might be interested to learn that it seems that in South Korea, LG has begun to roll out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for owners of the handset. LG did initially promise that the update would roll out before the end of 2012, but considering that we’re only two weeks into 2013, we guess that the delay wasn’t too bad. There’s no word on when the US will be getting their Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, especially since Optimus G handsets locked to carriers will probably have to wait for carrier approval, but hopefully it won’t take too long now that it has already begun its rollout in its home country of South Korea.
