Though the price might be a bit of a turn-off for those of you not familiar with the power of the environment, Tweetbot has hit the Apple desktop environment today in a big way. This Twitter app is up for $19.99 USD, and for that price they’ve brought on one whole heck of a lot of features in this final first release (that being non-Beta, as it were). With this brand new universe for the Twitter king you’ll get Retina Mac Support, integration with your Notification Center, and even syncing with iCloud – of course you’ll need 10.8 Mountain Lion for that.

This update ties together with the iPhone and iPad versions of the app, Tweetbot now ready for the whole Apple universe. This update brings on the Twitter timeline for your desktop with single or multiple window view as well as column view, whatever you do so desire. This app has inline media preview – this working with several kinds of media such as photos and videos from multiple 3rd party networks. If you’re getting too much of a good thing from people you’d rather not hear from as much as you do, you can block and report users for spam and/or mute users, hashtags, clients, and keywords, too!

This release includes the ability to save tweet drafts for future publishing and to use lists as timelines, too. You can create a list of co-workers and friends and set it separate from the rest of your feed – or just make one for the comedians in your life. You can make sure you’re looking good to the rest of the world from this app as well, with the ability to edit your Twitter profile and avatar right from the Tweetbot app.

You can see what’s popular around the world with both local and worldwide trends support, following the hashtags as well as the keywords that you might never otherwise be seeing, right near your doorstep. It wasn’t all that long ago that Modbook Inc‘s CEO, Andreas Haas, made the mac-in-tablet Modbook Pro official, now we’re learning that the super-slate will launch with high performance SSD storage. So, as you wield your MacBook Pro come tablet, you’ll be free from spinning disks. Great, but what impact will this have on capacity? Well, according to the firm, storage will start at 64GB as standard, with upgrades possible all the way up to a, not-unreasonable, 480GB. Pre-orders go live on October 3rd, along with the all important reveal on price. Regardless of cost, if that void between the iPad and full-fat Windows 8 slates had been irking you, here’s your answer.

Microsoft brought Office for Mac 2011 up to speed with Mountain Lion this summer, and it’s now back with another update that finally adds support for the MacBook Pro’s Retina display. That comes courtesy of version 14.2.4 of the software suite, and that added sharpness naturally extends across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. You can find the update waiting for you in the Microsoft AutoUpdate tool if you haven’t been prompted to download it already.

Over the years we’ve come across a few signs that pointed to the possibility of touchscreen-enabled iMacs, but Steve Jobs had already dismissed this as a possibility for current Mac form factors. Quoting the man at the “Back to the Mac” keynote from two years ago: “It gives great demo, but after a while your arm feels like it’s going to fall off. Touch surfaces want to be horizontal.”

So perhaps our fantasy’s still stuck in the “research project” phase.

Luckily, the more adventurous touchscreen lovers can look to third-party solutions. For MacBooks you have Axiotron’s Modbook, except you lose the keyboard and you can’t perform the modification yourself. As for iMacs and Cinema Displays, we’ve been following Troll Touch for its resistive touchscreen replacement panels, but they aren’t exactly affordable and most of them have to be installed by the company. Even its user-installable SlipCover series starts from $899, anyway.

This leaves us with the Zorro Macsk, a cheekily named iMac accessory hailing from TMDtouch of Shenzhen, China. The 21.5-inch model is priced at just $199 on Amazon with no modifications required. Plus, it supports multitouch — a glaring omission from Troll Touch’s Mac lineup. So is this truly a bargain? The announcements just keep coming from the folks of Cupertino. After all the iPhone 5 fun Apple is now talking about iTunes, as they can’t leave that out. iTunes is hit or miss for many but today they’ve announced that the all new iTunes will be “dramatically simpler” for all users, not just those on mobile. It has a new streamlined user interface too.

Essentially it’s like cover flow but on steroids. iTunes has been completely revamped and the entire user interface is basically one giant grid. iTunes has seen a few rather small changes as of late, but today’s announcement is a major one. iOS, OSX, and Windows will all be seeing a completely new iTunes. Do I see iTunes widgets in OSX?I think I do!

Itunes will be completely redesigned. They’ve said more than once the user interface will be very simplified and dramatically different. They’ve improved performance across the grid too — which should make everyone happy. Then there’s previews while browsing. You’ll be able to continue to hear a preview before you purchase while you continue to browse your favorite artists.

The new tour info for artists looks wonderful too. Add in a little of iOS-like icons and you get a full calendar view of your favorite artists tour dates. Go Bruce Springsteen! We’ll continue to update once we hear more on the new iTunes, but Apple stated “late October” for the new and improved version. Stay tuned!
