Pac-Man Coffee Table Made from Old VHS Tapes: Be Kind, Rewakka!

If you have a ton of old VHS tapes laying around, why not make some furniture out of them. Specifically, something like this Pac-Man coffee table. Those tape spools on the back of the tapes make perfect dots for the maze.

This table is the work of Etsy seller MRQ19. It’s a clever way to put all of those old VHS tapes to good use.

It has a sheet of wood underneath to reinforce it, though I’m not sure how sturdy it would be. It looks like it is not very thick. The important thing is that it looks awesome and will be great in your retro game room.

Pac-Man Fish Tank: Drivin’ Fish Crazy

Wanna give your fish a good time and give them a break from their boring lives? Replace their ordinary tank with this Pac-Man maze tank. This aquarium will keep their minds occupied. It may even give them Pac-Man fever and drive them crazy.
pac man fish tank 620x707magnify

This fish tank was built by Instructables member antoniraj. It was created with 5 mm sheets of glass for the outside and 2 mm sheets for the maze, then it was all sealed together with Araldite epoxy glue. Dots and power pellets are optional.

If you decide to build one, you’ll just need a yellow fish for Pac-Man and the appropriately colored fish-ghosts. Unfortunately, I’m not sure how long your fish will last in this tank, but it is a fun project.

Six Pac-Men: Wakka^18

So what happens when six people play Pac-Man simultaneously on a huge maze? Sounds like fun. Now combine that with a concert, and you get this crazy piece of interactive performance art.

pac manmagnify

Six Pac-Men is a crazy bit of multimedia art created by Tacit Group, which mashes up a performance of Steve Reich’s 1973 modern classical music piece Six Pianos with a very special game of Pac-Man. Here’s how it works:

Performers need to collect items provided, by steering each given packman. One level is complete once six performers collect all the items, thereby going to the next measure of the piece. In some levels (or measures) appears a ghost that disturbs the performer. Performers can finish the game by playing all measures. This shows a significant feature of Tacit Group that has been applying games like Tetris and puzzles to pieces of art.

You can check out the entire performance in the video below. It starts out a little slow, but gets going around the 1:25 mark. Be sure to blow it up to full screen HD if you can.

Mesmerizing, isn’t it? And if you’re wondering about that Tetris performance they were talking about…

Play Doctor Who Pac-Man: Wakka Wakka Exterminate!

Two of the world’s greatest things have come together in a new game that will blow your mind and distract you from the things you should be doing instead. Doctor Who Pac-Man. Need I say more?

dw pacmanmagnify

DeviantARTist maxtervamp made this Doctor Who Pac-Man flash game that you can play online right now. It’s just like the original Pac-Man that you know and love, but with a TARDIS and Daleks instead of ghosts. The power pellets are sonic screwdrivers, naturally.

Chomping Daleks is fun. I have spent way too much time playing this already. Now it is your turn.

Pac-Man Monster Truck: Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! Wakka! Wakka! Wakka!

A while back, toy modder KodyKoala built an epic Yoshi mech and an equally awesome Luigi. I was poking around over on Etsy this morning when I stumbled onto another great build by Kody.

The vehicle is a mashup of a Pac-Man bank and a non-functional R/C 4×4, among other bits. I’m not sure what the deal is with the bunny rabbit sidekick though.

I’m pretty sure if Pac-Man had this monster truck in the maze, he would have been able to run down every ghost, whether blue any other color for that matter.

Unfortunately, the Pac-Man Monster Truck was a custom build for a customer and has already been sold. I’m hoping to convince Kody to build a massive Q*bert with wings, so it could fly over that entire pyramid and skip the whole swearing thing.

Arcade Lights Bring the Arcade Experience Home (Minus the Games)

While many of us fans of classic arcade games would love to have a whole roomful of old arcade cabinets, we don’t always have the space, the money, or the understanding significant other to allow for such dalliances. ArcadeLights has the next best thing.

They come in a wide variety of designs, and are the perfect addition to your gameroom. Whether you’re looking for Pac-Man, Asteroids, Moon Patrol, or TRON, they’ve got you covered.

Keep in mind that due to the age of these marquees, they’re not all in perfect condition, but that just adds to the arcade-y charm, IMHO.

And if you miss playing the classics, you can always load up some games on your arcade emulator while you admire your shiny new wall light.

Pac-Man Ghost Crocheted Throws Keep Your Wakka Wakka Warm

As the Starks used to say “Winter is Coming!” so you’d better start thinking about how you’re going to keep warm when Fall is over. You could freeze your bippy off, or you could cover it up with a ghost from Pac-Man.

pac man crochet blanket 1 620x396magnify

These handmade crocheted blankets from AtomicBits are just the thing to give you a little added warmth as you cozy up on the couch in front of your shiny new PS4 or XBone this holiday season.

pac man crochet blanket 2 620x472magnify

At a little over 2-feet-square, they’re actually a better size for a baby blanket, but you get the point. They still will look cool thrown on your bed or couch. Each one is made from anti-allergic Acrylic/Wool thread, and is perfect for any retro gaming fanatic. They’re currently available in red (Blinky) and orange (Clyde) versions, though I’m sure you could convince AtomicBits to make you an Inky, Pinky or blue ghost if you ask nicely.

RC Pac-Man Racer Chasers brings the virtual chase to the real world

pacman-racer-chasersI know that with cosplay having gained immense popularity in the past few years, seeing video game and anime characters in real life poses are not all that special any more. What happens when you want to turn back the clock to an even older era – one with extremely basic graphics and just beeps and boops for audio? Re-enacting those in real life is a whole lot harder then, but it is not impossible as with the case of the $49.95 RC Pac-Man Racer Chasers.

This happens to be a three-dimensional, remote-controlled re-creation of one of the most classic chase sequences in arcade history, where it involves Pac-Man and Blinky the Ghost. You will need to players of course, where one will take command of the yellow pie chart with an ever hungry disposition, while Blinky the Ghost will be commanded by another. Sporting infrared remote controls that have a 25-foot range and control simple forward, back, left, and right maneuvers, it is ideal to chase one another, race against each other, or to just avoid one another as though you were playing a video game version of bumper cars. This Blinky is as fast as Pac-Man unlike in the game itself, and the entire shebang requires 10 AAA batteries to run, so using rechargeables come across as highly recommended.

Pac-Man Stapler proves that he’s got quite the bite!

pac-man-staplerMost of us are familiar with Pac-Man – you know, the yellow colored living pie chart whose diet consists of pellets, some fruit, and the occasional ghost, and he is never a silent mover with all that wakka-wakka sounds, which means he would have failed in any mission that requires stealth as the primary factor. Well, considering Pac-Man makes a living (and literally fights for his life) with his mouth, it would not come across as a surprise to us that he carries one mean bite. Which perfectly explains the existence of the $9.99 Pac-Man Stapler.

The Pac-Man Stapler looks like Pac-Man, but functions like a stapler, and that means the only conclusion that one is able to draw from it would be the fact that this IS a stapler. A mini one, that is, as his bites are perfect to keep loose sheets of a particular document together, or you can choose to have some fun with this by creating stapled metal patterns on a sheet of paper during one of those more boring meetings. All you need to do is squeeze his head, and watch him “bite” that particular sheet of papers together. The stapler is removable, which means it can be refilled, making this far more useful than a one time use device only.
