Pantech Teasing Vega Iron Announcement On April 18 To Compete With Galaxy S4

Nowadays, Android phone manufacturers are setting their sights on Samsung as their Galaxy S series seem to be the smartphones to beat. Pantech is certainly no stranger to the Android smartphone scene as they released a number of handsets over the past couple of years, but they’re announcing an upcoming device is expected to be the company’s flagship smartphone to take on the likes of the Galaxy S4 and the HTC One.

Pantech is teasing an upcoming event planned to take place on April 18 in South Korea for its “Vega Iron” which will be the company’s flagship smartphone which is expected to feature a 5-inch display capable of a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1820, a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM and a 13MP rear-facing camera. Which Snapdragon processor is certainly up in the air at this point with a number of sources claiming it’ll either be the Snapdragon 600 or the Snapdragon 800. Either way, we’ll be keeping a close eye on South Korea later this week to report on Pantech’s upcoming announcement.

Pantech Vega IM-A860 Joins Full HD Smartphone Party

The Full HD smartphone is no longer the stuff of legends – in fact, sooner or later, you would find smartphones that have a Full HD resolution display being the norm, while anything less than that would be deemed to be low-end. Of course, at this point in time, all Full HD display smartphones on the Android platform do seem to be their respective flagship models of different smartphone manufacturers, and the Pantech Vega IM-A860 is no different, coming in the Vega IM-A860S and IM-A860L flavors. Chances are these will be codenames for SK Telecom and LG U+, which are a pair out of the trio of major carriers in South Korea.

So far, the Pantech Vega IM-A860 has been seen in GLBenchmark’s database, and in the process received Wi-Fi certification, so chances are pretty high (with expectations running so) that a formal launch is right on track. Still, perhaps it is too optimistic to expect a Full HD Pantech Vega to make its way to the market before 2012 is over, so a CES announcement does seem to be the more reasonable conclusion.

The 4.5-inch Vega LTE is not eight months old and the 4.8-inch Vega Racer 2 is still properly wet behind the years. But, the flow of progress abides by no calendars, so welcome the Pantech Vega S5 to the world. It steps up to a full 5-inch IPS LCD with a 720p resolution in a phone that, thanks to a “zero bezel” design, actually has a smaller footprint than the Samsung Galaxy S III. There’s a whopping 13 megapixel shooter in there with zero lag, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 16GB of internal storage and a 2,100 mAh battery that’s said to deliver 11 hours of talk time. If that sounds like a good combination indeed it could be, but don’t spend too much pining — this handset is destined only for Korean shores.
