A nation-wide study of more than 1100 pre-school children up to 5 years of age in Australia
indicates that 20 percent of children are obese even before they enter
school. Particular habits formed at home were identified as leading
causes of a condition that is both physically and socially deleterious
to kids and can continue all their lives – obesity….
So last week, we saw how awesome dads could be. First, there was the dad who built his daughter her very own backyard roller coaster. Then there was the dad who turned his kid’s toy car into a real one. But moms can be awesome, too, and today we’ve got an example of one. Now what she did might not be something of epic proportions or mechanical in nature, but it’s a labor of love, just like what those dads did.
Redditor zacch wanted a pair of Batman Converse, but didn’t have the cash. So instead of buying one for him, his mom took one of his old pairs and painted all sorts of cool Batman stuff on them.
Not only do they look awesome, but they’re also one-of-a-kind, considering that his mom customized them and all.
The post on Reddit has amassed a lot of praise, comments, and request, which prompted zacch’s mom to accept requests for customized shoes. If you’re interested in getting a pair of customized kicks, check out his mom’s blog and use the email on that site to send in your requests or inquiries.

World’s Coolest Dad (of the Week) Builds a Backyard Roller Coaster for His Daughter
Posted in: Today's ChiliWhen I was younger, I was obsessed with two things: toy cards and Coca-Cola. So one day, my cooler-than-cool father surprised me with a toy car he put together from scrap blocks of wood, all covered with cut-up Coke cans.
It seems like there isn’t anything that doting fathers won’t do. Another shining example is this dad who built his daughter her very own roller coaster, right in their backyard.
Yes, you read that right: he built her an actual roller coaster! It’s smaller than the ones you see at amusement parks and it’s sort of a manual-type of coaster since the wagon has to be pushed upward until it reaches the peak. But it’s still pretty awesome and features a 12-foot drop. Check it out in the video below.
Pretty awesome, isn’t it?… Though he should think about buying a helmet for his daughter.

I don’t know who had the genius idea—and courage—to stick this post-it on their fridge door but, as evil as it may seem for kids all around the world, it’s the best parenting tip I’ve ever seen on this age of underage internet junkies. More »
Childbirth is a painful process for a mom, even with epidural pain
killers that effectively reduce that pain. Fear of that pain, called tocophobia,
is why some women choose not to have children at all. But for women
who do become pregnant and carry their children to term, the fear of
childbirth may actually cause greater difficulty to the mother in the
delivery room, according to a new study from Norway.
