Jurassic Park 3D Review: An Improvement on Perfection

It’s a universal truth that Jurassic Park is a near-perfect movie, which is why its 20th anniversary re-release in 3D has elicited both elation and groans from fans. Yay, hurray, Jurassic Park in theaters! Uh oh, I hope the 3D conversion doesn’t ruin the film! More »

170-Foot-Long Trampoline Lets You Jump Merrily Along Your Path

Apparently, the hottest way to travel these days is via trampoline. Remember the trampoline bridge concept that made crossing the river fun again? Well, now you’re about to see a 170-foot-long trampoline pathway that makes commuting fun again.

fast track trampoline 1It’s called Fast Track, and while it looks pretty exciting, the whole concept seems a bit outrageous. For one, I don’t know anyone who can manage to jump all the way across 170 feet of trampoline without falling off (or heaving) at least once or twice. Second, it’s going to multiply travel time by a couple of factors because it’ll obviously take longer to bounce erratically to your destination instead of just walking towards it.

Trampoline

Somehow, I get the feeling that getting people to where they want to go isn’t really the point of this trampoline anyhow, as you can see from this video clip:

According to design firm Salto who are behind the concept:
“Fast Track” is an attempt to create intelligent infrastructure that is emotional and corresponds to the local context. It gives the user a different experience of moving and percieving the environment.

The Fast Track trampoline was on exhibit at the recent Archstoyanie festival in the forest of Nikola-Lenivets, Russia.

Korea is Flush with Happiness with Their New Toilet-Themed Park

Cartoon characters and movies are common subjects for theme parks. Household objects are a stretch. But toilets? Now this is definitely a first. A new theme park was recently erected in Suwon, South Korea and it celebrates toilets. I think that much is clear from the image of the park that you see here.

Toilet ParkIt’s called the Restroom Cultural Park and serves as Suwon’s tribute to its loo-loving former mayor, Sim Jae-duck. Apparently, Sim’s love for toilets began when he was a wee child, having been born in a toilet himself.

Throughout his term, Sim promoted public facilities while he was in office. He eventually went on to found the World Toilet Association.

Sim might have gone on to the other side (he passed away in 2009), but his legacy and love for toilets will forever be remembered and celebrated with this theme park.

Angry Birds Activity Parks to Hit Finland This Year

One of the most popular smartphone applications on any platform  has been the Angry Birds franchise. Now, it’s maker, Rovio has teamed up for something that will have kids in Finland screaming with joy. Rovio and Finnish hotel and resort company Holiday Club will be building Angry Birds Activity Parks in three of its spa hotels.

The parks will be year-round indoor playgrounds with the first scheduled to be completed by Christmas 2012 in Kuusamon Tropiikki. In February 2013, another Angry Birds Park will launch in Saariselkä with another one coming in the fall to Saimaa. The image above is a rendering of what the activity park will look like.

I wonder why we’re not seeing Angry Birds playgrounds or theme parks launch in the United States yet. I know my kids would go bonkers to play at one of these.

Flip Bench Offers You a Choice When it Comes to Public Seating Arrangements

You know how sometimes, there’s only one space left on the bench, and you really don’t want to find yourself sandwiched between a kid throwing a tantrum and a guy eating a Sloppy Joe sloppily? Unfortunately, your choices are only to take that last seat – or remain standing until one of them leaves. And you know that could take a while.

Cue the Flip Bench by Daniel Pearlman, an outdoor bench that’s the only one of its kind since it comes with flippable seats.

Flip Bench

If you prefer not to be seated with someone on either side, just flip the seat and take your seat on the other side.

In addition to the plastic, outdoor variant, Pearlmann envisions a stylish indoor, laminated wood and aluminum version for common seating areas as well.

Of course, some people might take offense that you actually flipped the seat on them, but that’s a totally different story.
