Paytouch Lets You Shop Without Your Wallet

Paytouch Lets You Shop Without Your WalletWhen the going gets tough financially, many of us fall back on our three good friends, American Express, Visa and Mastercard. Of course, that is not the most prudent way of walking forward, but hey, we got to do what we’ve got to do to stay alive, no? Well, carrying cash around used to be the norm for the masses, but it could get dangerous with the rising number of crime cases all around. What if you had something that allows you to perform transactions without having to carry cash around? A debit card is a good idea for cashless shopping without spending tomorrow’s money, but with the Paytouch idea, all it requires is a quick fingerprint scan whenever you want to make a purchase, and you’re good to go.

Basically, the Paytouch system would hook up your card information to your personal fingerprint. While it might be safer that way, it could very well be more dangerous as well, as you start “spending” money without keeping track on how much dough you have as you make your way through the different shops, one by one. Right now, the company behind Paytouch is focused on selling their product at gas stations and grocery stores throughout Spain, with expansion plans for other countries in Europe and of course, to the US.

Paytouch lets your fingerprints make purchases, hopes to expand into Europe and America next year

The business of commerce is alive and well, and while there’s far too much noise for anyone to stand on the mobile side, Paytouch is hoping to add a new wrinkle on the conventional end. The Barcelona-based outfit was on hand here at The Next Web Conference, showcasing its biometric payment terminal and setting the stage for what’s to come. For those unfamiliar, the Paytouch terminal is currently being used at Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel — users with a Paytouch account simply link their credit card to their fingerprints, and a two-finger press is all it takes to order another glass of sangria. The benefits are fairly obvious for all parties involved. For the consumer, there’s no longer a need to carry a credit card that can be skimmed, lost or stolen; for the retailer, it’s able to encourage impulse buying in an entirely new way; for Paytouch, there’s a commission paid on each purchase.
