D-Link Gaming Router pre-orders now available

When it comes to networking devices, many of us would definitely have heard of the name “D-Link” before, as this particular company is no stranger at all after being in the market for so many years. They have had their fair share of hits in the past, but if you were to have a parallel in contemporary terms, D-Link’s brand is somewhat like Toyota or Honda – delivering a functional and reliable device, and yet they are not really all that eye-catching in the first place, and neither does it make the heart race when one sets their eyes on it. Having said that, D-Link has just made available the pre-order of their most advanced Gaming Router ever, the D-Link Gaming Router with Qualcomm StreamBoost technology, or the DGL-5500 if model numbers are your cup of tea.

The D-Link Gaming Router would come with AC1300 wireless speeds that are unique to traffic shaping and bandwidth management, and it will also work in tandem with a quartet of gigabit Ethernet ports so that it can deliver the ultimate in gaming performance, media streaming and network control. Of course, placing a pre-order would still mean that a little bit of waiting is in order, and those who are interested in picking up the D-Link Gaming Router at $199.99 a pop via newegg.com would have to wait until August 1st for shipping to commence.

Listen to what Daniel Kelley, vice president of marketing, D-Link Systems, Inc., had to say about the Gaming Router, “The Gaming Router represents the ultimate in high-performance connectivity to give power users the ability and control they need to do what they love online without the concern or interruption of buffering and lag. Today’s action role-playing games and MMOs are more competitive than ever and with limited bandwidth coming into the home, gamers need to ensure they’re making the most of their connectivity to maintain an advantage. With Qualcomm StreamBoost technology, the new Gaming Router is designed to do just that – shape the network traffic to help gamers do more and lag less.”

I admit, this is the first time that I have heard about the Qualcomm StreamBoost technology, but apparently it has been designed to deliver a robust connected experience to users regardless of the device that they use over the home network, and this is achieved by intelligently managing and shaping traffic, while providing individual devices and applications the priority and bandwidth required in order to enjoy optimal performance.

Digital Storm unveils VIRTUE performance gaming PC

When it comes to gaming, there are different levels of dedication displayed by the gamers themselves, where some of them are pretty all right with run of the mill gaming machines, while others prefer to settle for a fully customized gaming machine. The most hardcore gamers of all, however, would prefer nothing better, than to build their gaming PC from ground up, using only the choicest parts without sparing a single expense. Well, Digital Storm has had their fair share of gaming computers in the past, and this time around, their latest model to hit the deck is known as the VIRTUE performance gaming PC.

The VIRTUE performance gaming PC is the epitome of the system builder’s commitment to excellence, as well as to its customers. It comes in the form of a stunning mid-tower desktop that will boast of a brushed aluminium as well as steel exterior, where it carries benchmark crushing components, all crammed within a large, upgrade friendly interior regardless of its relatively compact footprint.

Rajeev Kuruppu, Digital Storm’s Director of Product Development, said, “We noticed there are not many pc manufacturers designing mid-tower gaming systems with the same ardor and attention that ultra-tower PCs receive. As its name suggests, VIRTUE represents a higher standard of PC gaming, both in terms of aesthetics and performance.”

The VIRTUE’s rollout would arrive on the heels of a couple of major component launches, which so happens to be Intel’s latest fourth generation Haswell CPUs and NVIDIA’s GTX 700 series graphics cards, which further disproves the notion that all which is required for a decent gaming performance PC would be a big desktop tower. VIRTUE is able to support the entire range of high end hardware thanks to its impressive liquid cooling system, boasting up to five fans alongside a massive 240mm radiator. In fact, it is capable of handling the Level 4 VIRTUE’s overclocked Intel Core i7 4770K CPU and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN 6GB graphics card without breaking a sweat, all the while having room for a whole lot more upgrades – such as room for dual video cards, a couple of hard drives and a quartet of SSDs.

Sony VAIO Pro 13/11 announced

Here we are with yet another couple of Ultrabooks from the good people over at Sony, with the VAIO Pro 13/11 being announced. These were claimed by Sony to be the lightest touch capable Ultrabooks in their respective classes, and I don’t suppose that the clever implementation and use of carbon fiber for its case had anything to do with such an “achievement”, hmmm? The touch enabled VAIO Pro 11 would tip the scales at approximately 870 grams, while the touch enabled VAIO Pro 13 is a wee bit heavier by weighing down the average scale by a mere 1.060 kg.

Regardless of which particular model you decide to settle for, the VAIO Pro 13/11 will come with a uni-direction carbon fiber body and Hexa-shell design that delivers the kind of extra durability which mobile computers tend to require. Not only that, being lightweight does not mean that Sony has skimped on quality – no sir, as the Japanese firm also brings a comfortable typing experience for the VAIO Pro 13/11 by featuring a wide key pitch and stroke in order to allow for an extremely natural typing experience. Apart from that, the VAIO Pro 13/11 will also make use of a unique palm rest that which gradually merges into the, delivering virtually unrivaled comfort while typing for hours on end.

Your eyes would also be more than happy to greet the TRILUMINOS Display, letting you enjoy a wide palette of rich natural colors courtesy of Sony’s BRAVIA expertise. Merge this with a full HD display and Sony’s super resolution technology, X-Reality for mobile, and you can be sure that looking at other displays on rival Ultrabooks that have a lesser configuration would certainly be a dampener, especially when your heart swells with pride in picking the right Ultrabook – at least where visuals are concerned. Both models will be available for purchase sometime later this month, although pricing details have yet to be determined.

If you are mad about gadgets, then surely shows such as CeBIT, the grand daddy of them all, CES, or even a more oriental slant like Computex would capture your attention, as you lap up the different kinds of news as well as press releases that different companies come up with. Asus is one such company, using the opportunity of launching yet another computer peripheral in their own backyard in the form of the Asus VivoMouse. Just when you thought that a mouse is a mouse, is a mouse, Asus comes along to try and prove everyone wrong. Now the Asus VivoMouse is not any kind of gaming device, but rather, it will be oriented more towards the office and serious crowd.

In a nutshell, you can go around to claim that the Asus VivoMouse is the first wireless mouse with an integrated multi-touch touchpad in the world, delivering not only full desktop but handheld control as well.

Certainly the lines of normal hardware categories are being redrawn all the time with each successive generation of peripherals that enter the market. Take the smartphone for instance – this category of gadgets have moved on from carrying a QWERTY keyboard to being a full touchscreen device, and now we have the screen size getting larger and larger until they start to encroach on tablet territory. I guess you can more or less say that the same is happening with the Asus VivoMouse, where it combines mouse, touchpad, and wireless remote into a single device.

It is said to be an entirely new kind of pointing device, courtesy of its innovative combination of traditional desktop input and a wireless handheld remote for a more casual PC control. When you want to use the VivoMouse as a standard optical mouse, it will fit comfortably in the hand, although its top surface would also boast of a large circular touchpad with full support for Windows 8 multi-touch gestures. Since it is wide and flat, you can use the VivoMouse interchangeably as a mouse and desktop touchpad, which makes it the ideal partner for Windows 8 machines. No idea on pricing, but the Asus VivoMouse will be out later this Q3.

Computex 2013 is a place where a fair number of companies has chosen to roll out the different kinds of products that they have in store for the market in the coming year, and since there is quite a fair number of hardware manufacturers that hail from Taiwan itself, it is no surprise to see them make full use of this “home ground” advantage, and Asus being one of the more celebrated companies has decided to roll out the Asus Transformer Book Trio. Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabook announced

Every company needs a flagship device to keep it going, never mind that the flagship device is never going to sell as many units as their “bread and butter” models so to speak. For instance, Mercedes Benz has their S Class range that is the epitome of luxury for the brand, while BMW has their 7 Series. When it comes to the world of Ultrabooks, Acer’s previous champion, the Acer Aspire S7 has proved itself to be more than a decent performer, especially with its 180-degree display capability. Well, Acer has taken the opportunity this time around at Computex 2013 in Taipei to unveil a next-generation version of their 13.3-inch Aspire S7 Ultrabook which will not only retain the celebrated characteristics of its predecessor, but the brand new Aspire S7 will also introduce improved battery life for all-day computing, a refined electroluminescent (EL) backlit keyboard that delivers a more natural typing experience, and 2nd generation Acer TwinAir cooling that runs quieter than ever before, in addition to having wireless display (WiDi) technology which will offer big-screen entertainment and productivity.

Razer Blade is thinnest gaming notebook in the world

Whenever someone throws out a superlative word, you cannot help but wonder just how the heck did they arrive at such a conclusion. Was the label warranted just because of some in-house tests, or has it been independently verified? That is the big question that we have concerning the Razer Blade, but since Razer has been pretty much a reliable company for the longest time in the world of gaming, it goes without saying that to see Razer slap on the label of “The World’s Thinnest Gaming Notebook” on the Razer Blade is a trustworthy saying. In fact, the Razer Blade comes across as thinner than a dime, sporting a 14” HD+ display, running on a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, alongside NVIDIA GTX 765M as the graphics card of choice.

Just how thin is the Razer Blade? If you have a dime in your pocket, you get an idea on how amazingly thin it has become, where it measures in at a mere 0.66” thin – making it thinner than your regular smartphone for most of the case, unless you settle for one of those models from Huawei or ZTE that are obsessed with the thickness (or rather, the lack of it) of your smartphone. With that kind of dimensions, the Razer Blade is hands down the winner when it comes to packing in more power-per-cubic-inch compared to any other laptop in the world.

Underneath the hood, you will find that the Razer Blade packs in a future 4th generation Intel Core i7 processor, the most recent NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M GPU that ensures the kind of graphics which pop out from your machine is top notch and minimizes dropped frames, while taking advantage of today’s modern solid-state storage technology where it boasts of boot speeds of up to four-times faster compared to the traditional 5400-RPM notebook hard drive. Of course, since this is a gaming notebook, it is imperative that the display itself ought to be worth its salt considering the amount of time you are going to spend looking at it, hence the Razer Blade boasts of a stunning 14” LED-backlit HD+ display, with a custom-designed trackpad and backlit gaming grade keyboard to get you going right out of the box, all crammed into a rigid all-aluminum chassis. 8GB RAM is accompanied by a choice of either 128GB, 256GB or 512GB SSD. Pricing for the Razer Blade starts from $1,799 onwards as it is made available for pre-order from June 3.

Toshiba Portege Z10t Detachable Ultrabook

What is the meaning of such sorcery? Yet another line is being breached in the world of technology, as the Ultrabook is no longer an ordinary Ultrabook with the release of the Toshiba Portege Z10t. In fact, Toshiba’s latest release would clearly make this the first device that runs on the Windows 8 operating system from the company that was specially designed for business users. It is a versatile device by any means, where it is capable of functioning as an Ultrabook whenever the need arises, and if you find yourself in a situation where a tablet is more suitable to use, then the Toshiba Portege Z10t can also double up as that, too.

With the Toshiba Portege Z10t, you are able to switch form factors instantly between notebook and tablet in the simplest of actions – that is, to detach the screen. When detached you will find the tablet segment a wee bit larger than usual, especially when you are so used to the 7” tablet market – but those who are using hybrid Ultrabooks like the Dell XPS 12 and the Lenovo Yoga 13 would find it ideal, as the Toshiba Portege Z10t comes with an 11.6” diagonal, Full HD, IPS anti-glare touchscreen display that ought to offer a whole lot more screen real estate compared to the other tablets, without sacrificing on the ultra-responsive performance of a notebook.

Not only that, there is also a built-in digitizer that would increase the amount of functionality for folks who want to write and take notes on-screen. As for the detachable keyboard, it will come with a touchpad that we suspect will not see much action, since you would most probably play with the touchscreen display itself. Still, it boasts of Windows 8 gesture support and Accupoint, and is LED backlit and spill-resistant. You can choose from 128GB or 256GB SSD configurations, where these will be accompanied by 4GB RAM, is Intel Wireless Display Ready, has a SD memory card slot, USB 3.0 and Micro HDMI ports, and an audio combo jack in addition to the keyboard dock carrying full-size HDMI, RGB, LAN and USB 2.0 ports. Prices for the Portege Z10t start from $1,499 onwards.
