Verbatim Design Mice announced

When one talks about Verbatim, most of the time we would have the idea of some kind of storage device in mind, considering how the company made their name with a collection of Teflon-coated floppy disks back in the halycon days of the 80×86 computers. Well, the company still does deal with all things storage even until now, but this does not mean that they have decided to remain with just such a business model, refusing to branch out to other kinds of businesses. Here we are with the latest bit of news concerning Verbatim, where I am referring to the Verbatim Design Mice that offers wireless connectivity in a stylish form factor, merging 2.4 GHz performance in a user-friendly shape and artistic design.

The Verbatim Design Mouse will play nice with both the Mac and PC platforms, where it is said to marry “technology and performance with joyful artistic design.” Sporting an ergonomic form factor which will conform to your hand, in addition to having a comfort-grip scroll wheel alongside a rubberized side grip for that added bit of precision control, the Design Mice series will be endowed with an elegant pattern which is highlighted via various color contrasts.

To “talk” to your computer, the Verbatim Design Mouse will rely on a 2.4 GHz wireless connection so that you will always be able to enjoy delayed-free cursor movement. The presence of a Nano USB receiver is there to prevent issues concerning bulk, and transporting and storage of the Nano USB receiver is easier than ever before since you can always stash that into the Design Mouse itself by clipping onto it. I would say that even if you want the Nano USB receiver to remain on your notebook’s USB port when you travel, that should not be a problem considering its miniscule size.

You can choose from five distinct colors – burnt orange, purple, red, blue and graphite, where the Verbatim Design Mice will retail for $19.99 a pop.

Touchscreen iMac?

Apple revolutionized the world of touch screens. Between the Touch, Phone and Pad – and many other brands of devices that followed – we have become a swiping, pinching, tapping sort of society. Yet the foundational product in Apple’s collection is still “touch free.” Think about it – the iMac lacks this functionality that we associate with their product brethren. Zorro Macsk, by TMDTouch, proves to change that simple fact and give you a touchscreen iMac.

Zorro Macsk, available at Amazon for just $199, is a frame-like surface you attach to your iMac and in less than 10 seconds you have a touchscreen. Once applied, connect the frame’s USB cable to a port on the computer. Since it supports PNP in Mac OS no driver is required to run the Zorro Macsk. Using infrared technology the users input/touches are then detected. And voila! You are pinching, swiping and tapping just as you do on your other Apple products.  The height of the frame is just 4mm, and the unit is specifically tailored to match the contours of the iMac. Currently the Zorro Macsk is available for the 21.5” screen, with 27” in development. It is available in pink, silver and black and also provides a nice option to protect the monitor bezel from dust and scratches.  Take the convenience of touchscreen to your iMac and enjoy a whole new experience.

Logitech Washable Keyboard K310 does not mind skinny dipping

How many of you out there work late at nights? Well, if you have raised your hand, chances are you would be slogging it out in front of the computer when you burn the midnight oil, drinking your umpteenth cup of coffee so that you have enough caffeine in your system to complete that particular task before your boss wrings your neck for not meeting the deadline. Well, apart from liquid sustenance, getting something physical into your body is also a good idea, and most of the time, finger food like pizza works perfectly fine.

The thing is, it can get rather messy at times, especially when your pizza comes with all sorts of toppings all the way to Sunday. To wipe that grease from your fingers so that you can resume typing is time consuming and adds up, giving you even more stress as the deadline looms closer than ever before. Washing your keyboard is also not an option since it is not waterproof. Well, I guess it is moments like these that you would find the Logitech Washable Keyboard K310 to be a boon, no?

To put it in a nutshell, the Logitech Washable Keyboard K310 is capable of handling anything from a light dusting to a rinse in the kitchen sink, making it extremely easy to clean as well as a fast dryer. Not only that, another practical aspect of this particular waterproof keyboard is the comfortable typing experience it offers thanks to a familiar layout and sleek, thin profile.

You need not worry about how many times you are able to wash the Logitech Washable Keyboard K310, as it is durable enough to be be hand washed time and time again, and can even go snorkeling with you (sans the USB cable, of course) as long as it does not go deeper than 11 inches of water. There are convenient drainage holes located at the back of the keyboard so that drying becomes a snap, while key characters are laser printed and UV coated in order to make sure they remain crystal clear after numerous washes.

The Logitech Washable Keyboard K310 will retail for $39.99 from October 2012 onwards.

A Better Angry Birds?

The biggest gaming app can’t get any better, can it? Students at the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design think so. Hideaki Matsui and Andrew Spitz created, Super Angry Birds, a physical controller including a slingshot and detonator for the popular game. The video below shows the device in action. Basically, the units connect via USB. The slingshot can be aimed up or down and its motorized slider enables you to release the birds just as you would on a touch screen. Geek.com has more on the technicalities of how it works. And the inventors have no plans to sell the device. But with such realistic control of a game it is fun to think of what other controllers may be possible.

USB Toaster Hub and Thumbdrives

Some of us might say that a particular file is toast once we accidentally pressed Shift and Delete keys on the keyboard, but you might want to think of making a backup of all your important files onto a USB flash drive beforehand. Now, since many of us already tote a fair number of USB flash drives as part of our collection, why not make matters more interesting by using a USB hub at home or in the office? You might as well make a stylish statement in the process with the USB Toaster Hub and Thumbdrives from ThinkGeek. The USB Toaster Hub is one thing, and you can choose other thumb-drives that come in the shape of a toast. The toaster and toasts are sold separately, retailing anywhere from $24.99 to $27.99 depending on what you are looking for.

I guess it would be travesty not to collect all four “slices” of “toast”, especially when you consider how cute the whole setup would be if you were to piece them together. Not only that, ThinkGeek knows that the modern day road warrior is also one who carries a slew of other gizmos as well, which is where the SD memory card slot on this puppy comes in handy.
