Project Christine could be the new wave of computing technology

project-christineWe happen to live in a world that demands efficiency from us. After all, there is nothing quite like working at our level best, is there? When it comes to computing performance, excellence is always called upon for, whether you are crunching numbers on a spreadsheet, or simply are a hard core gamer who wants to crank every single possible frame out. Razer has announced a concept that might just change the world of computers down the road with their modular gaming system that is known as Project Christine.

The PC has been touted to be one of the most open platforms where technology is concerned, but it does have its own drawbacks, too. There are technical complexities where the PC is concerned in terms of hardware, and Project Christine with its revolutionary new concept design will hopefully change the way that PCs are viewed. In a nutshell, Project Christine would enable any user to be able to build and customize his or her PC in any configuration without the need for any technical knowledge beforehand. Apart from that, upgrading your computer is a snap, since as new upgrades are introduced to the market, the very same machine can be easily and quickly upgraded without the need for additional technical assistance, not to mention doing away with the fear of incompatibility or obsolescence.

Project Christine’s modular design allows you to select and install modules on-the-fly, whether it’s a CPU, GPU, or memory and storage configuration. The PCI-Express architecture of Project Christine makes it easy to sync components automatically, and should you require additional graphics processing power or storage, the solution is a snap. Just slot-in another graphics modules and throw in additional storage after you swap out the current storage drives or adding more modules. Do you think that Project Christine has what it takes to succeed?

The Optimus Popularis is a keyboard for every occasion

optimus_popularis_keyboard
There are a few standard pieces of hardware we use for our computers. They come in various shapes and sizes with different features, but we all have a mouse, monitor, and keyboard. While some have more buttons than others, you don’t normally find any that are so over the top that they have a price tag in the thousands.

The Optimus Popularis is looking to change the status quo, by draining your bank account. This keyboard has 77 programmable keys that are all a half-inch square displays. Why on Earth would this come into existence you ask? Well, obviously there’s a market for it. It seems their target audience is ‘application power users’, and those who often write in a multitude of different languages on a daily basis. You can switch between layouts with ease, which means changing from task to task will be a breeze. There is a 7” LCD display that will show you whatever information you’d like such as weather, stock tickers, and server alerts.

The resolution is 72x72p, and the minimum frame rate is 10 fps. It’s made of aluminum and plastic, and weighs close to 7 pounds. It will work on Windows XP or Mac 10.8 or higher through USB. This will cost you…get ready for it…$2,400. Needless to say, even their target audience likely isn’t going to blow this much money unless it perfectly fits their daily life needs.

Kingston HyperX PREDATOR 1TB USB 3.0 Flash Drive

hyperx-predator-1tbI am quite sure that many of us have attended our fair share of trade shows and conferences over the years that we have amassed quite a collection of USB flash drives in our homes, so much so that these have become not valuable at all compared to the early days when a 32MB USB flash drive was all the rage, and hitting 1GB was like, “Whoa!”. Well, we just love the way that technology progresses over time, and here we are with the Kingston HyperX PREDATOR which offers a whopping 1TB of storage space, and fret not about spending huge amounts of time whenever you transfer data to and from it, as it will feature USB 3.0 connectivity to get the job done as fast as possible.

Having the Kingston HyperX PREDATOR around is definitely a boon, especially for those of you who do plenty of traveling and yet need to carry a portable hard drive around. The physical dimension of it is extremely small compared to even the smallest 2.5” portable hard drive around, although the latter has now achieved the 2TB capacity mark. It really depends on what you want to sacrifice – size or price?

Basically, the HyperX PREDATOR 1TB USB 3.0 flash drive performed as well as its smaller capacity brethren in most of the tests, but there is one major drawback to it. The thickness happens to make it nigh impossible to use normally just like a standard issue USB flash drive, even more so when you want to hook it up to a USB port that is located at the back of your notebook, and this is where the bundled USB 3.0 extension cable comes in handy. Another major talking point (negative one, unfortunately) would be the humongous price tag, as the 1TB model retails for $1,306.63 on Amazon.com. Imagine the number of portable hard drives you can purchase with that kind of money!

evoMouse the virtual mouse

evomouseMost of the mice that we have talked about over here on Coolest Gadgets tend to lean more towards the gaming segment, but this time around, it would be the ordinary working man who might end up with something better – that is, the $79.99 evoMouse. This is a virtual mouse which will (theoretically speaking, of course) respond to your hand motions, and it will play nice with a slew of modern day computing devices such as Macs, iPhones, iPads, Windows, and Android-powered electronics.

As usual, the evoMouse will live up to its technologically advanced namesake, meaning it will be able to support wireless connectivity via Bluetooth, but just in case you happen to be using it alongside a device that has no Bluetooth connectivity, fret not, there is also an included USB cable to get you started. The evoMouse will work via IR, where just about any flat and smooth surface would end up as a touchpad after turning it on. Your fingers will be able to perform a variety of motions, including clicking, dragging, scrolling, and even to right click. Sounds like magic? That’s what we thought at first, but it is just plain old electronic wizardry at work here.

Samsung rolls out first 1TB mSATA SSD

samsung-1tb-ssdSamsung has achieved yet another first in their heavily feathered cap already, and this time around, it has something to do with the very first 1TB mSATA SSD in the world. This particular SSD would be known as the Samsung 840 EVO mSATA (mini-Serial ATA) Solid State Drive (SSD), where both the SSD’s thickness and weight are said to be around 40% and a twelfth of a typical hard disk drive, respectively. That is surely lightweight, and considering the far smaller size that it comes in, you can be sure that it will be tiny enough to usher in a new era of even smaller desktop computers!

It is said that this Samsung 1TB mSATA SSD will be able to deliver 98,000 random read and 90,000 random write IOPS (Input Output Operations Per Second) , not to mention sequential read and write speed of 540 megabytes per second (MB/s) and 520 MB/s. And no, you do not need to wait for a long time to pick up this puppy, since Samsung has announced that it will be made available later this month worldwide, where the exact launch date will depend on just which region it is rolling out in.

The Samsung 840 EVO mSATA SSD will continue from where the 840 EVO line-up left off, which was originally introduced in July this year at the Samsung SSD Global Summit. This model will boast of the compact mSATA form factor, which is roughly 25% that of a 2.5” SSD, and yet it does not compromise when it comes to the level of high density and high performance.

If you do not have the budget nor the need for 1TB of storage space, fret not – the Samsung 840 EVO mSATA SSD range will still arrive in other capacities for you to choose from, including 120GB, 250GB, and 500TB. Which particular model would you go for if you’re building your own PC from scratch?
