Dell UltraSharp UP2414Q 24″ monitor ready to rock and roll

dell-up2414qWant to work with an extremely sharp monitor all the day long? After all, if you are going to sit in front of a computer for hours on end, you might as well give your eyes the very best. Having a good pair of glasses (if you wear one), and taking precautions such as focusing your eyes on things that are far away from time to time would also help. Of course, using a fantastic monitor would also go some way in making sure that your eyes do not get too tired quickly. Dell has revealed a new 24” monitor that will boast of 4K Ultra HD resolution, delivering a whopping 3840 x 2160 pixels – that would make it four times the resolution of Full HD, which is quite an act to follow up on.

This totally new Dell Ultra HD monitor has already been listed online on Dell’s official page, which would most probably signal that it is due to arrive not too long down the road. Known as the Dell 4K Ultra HD monitor, or the Dell UP2414Q if you like, some of the other hardware specifications are bound to impress you – including a 16:9 aspect ratio, 3840 x 2160 at 60 Hz (DP1.2*) 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz HDMI with a contrast ratio of 1000: 1 (typical)/2 Million:1 (Max) (Dynamic Contrast Ratio) and a brightness of 350 cd/m2 and 185 PPI.

Dell claims that regardless of whether you are using it for video editing, CGI animation or application and game development, the Dell UP2414Q UltraSharp 24” monitor will be able to deliver an up-close-and-personal view without breaking out in sweat. Your eyes will be treated to a clear and consistent view with an ultrawide 178°/178° viewing angle. Of course, pricing and availability details remain to be confirmed, but we are pretty sure that more information will be revealed in due time – and hopefully before the calendar makes the leap into 2014.

Kano is all-ages computer and coding kit

Kano Computer Kit
While we live in an age where technology is ever-changing, many people are being left in the dust. Computers are bought without much insight as to what’s in them, and people are hoping that sales representatives are steering them in the right direction. Everyone is taught from the top down, and is expected to figure things out on their own. There are plenty of books, classes, and programs that can walk you through what makes everything tick, but they’re not really fun, and are usually targeted to a specific age bracket.

It almost seems funny that the current generation of children know how to work technology better than their parents, but the big difference is that it wasn’t accessible to everyone when we were young. If you want to actually learn about computers, then Kano is an excellent first step. Rather than teaching you about how they work, this is a kit that will have you building one. It comes with an 8GB SD card, a DIY speaker, keyboard, custom case, Raspberry Pi Model B, HDMI and Mini USB cables, a smart power plug, and WiFi power-up.

Of course, there are manuals, but everything is presented in a way similar to storytelling. Once you get everything booted up, you’ll be able to learn about coding, and modify simple games. One full kit will cost you $99, or you can toss in $199, and get a kit for a child somewhere in the world. Seeing that this idea was prompted by a 7-year-old boy who wanted building a computer to be as easy and fun as LEGOs, I’d say this can be a great learning tool for anyone.

Available for crowdfunding through Kickstarter, found via Technabob

Palette gives you a freeform interface to control any software

Palette
Lots of work on a computer is tedious, and time consuming. If you’re in the business of music, photography, or animation, then there is a lot of miniscule reparations you need to make constantly. There’s also a lot of squinting at the screen, and trying to move your mouse to the exact location you need to finish the task at hand.

If you’re tired of extra clicking and wish there were an easier way to work your controls, then the Palette might be of interest to you. It’s a freeform interface that will let you control just about any software. It will feel as if you’re turning the volume up on a soundboard or your speakers, but will be changing the contrast in a photo, or fine-tuning your musical masterpiece. You can string together as many of these as you’d like, and can control them through an app on your computer.

They are a tad costly, starting at $99, which will give you the central power unit, a button, a dial, and one slider. They all come in brushed aluminum, and have built-in RGB LEDs which you can control. It would certainly make things easier to color code if you started getting a bunch of them. If you’re wanting a wooden casing instead of metal, you can pay the $140 difference. All you need to do to get these working is plug it in via USB, connect modules, and program them to specific jobs. Over time, an SDK will be available so you can use this for anything you can come up with.

Mushkin at the forefront with Ventura Ultra USB, the world’s fastest flash drive

mushkin-ventura-ultraEveryone loves statistics, especially the superlatives, and hence it is no wonder that each year’s edition of the Guinness Book of World Records have done exceptionally well for itself. After all, we as humans seem somehow obsessed about stuff like the largest and the fastest, and new records which are set are always celebrated as another notch in the realm of human achievement. It is no different then, for Mushkin, an industry-leading designer and manufacturer of high-performance and mission-critical computer products, have just announced yet another feather in their cap – the official availability of the fastest USB flash drive in the world, which happens to be known as the Ventura Ultra.

Originally shown off at CES 2013 earlier this year, the Ventura Ultra happens to be a USB 3.0 flash drive that carries a whopping 240GB of storage space, making it the fastest in the world of its kind. This particular flash drive would obviously boast of extremely fast data transfer rates of up to 380 MB/s read and 325 MB/s write (theoretically speaking, considering these are well within the limits of the USB 3.0 standard, but in real life one might experience something different). Not only that, it comes with a rugged aluminum casing to deliver additional durability and resistance. Just a reminder for the masses, the USB 3.0 standard is up to 10 times faster compared to USB 2.0, and best of all is, it happens to be backwards compatible with legacy USB ports and devices.

Best of all is, the Mushkin Ventura Ultra is a dying breed, being one of the few USB flash drives in the world that does offer USB Attached SCSI Protocol support, so that it paves the way for command queuing so that it can maximize the transfer rate potential. Each purchase will arrive with a 2-year warranty when it becomes available worldwide this coming October 7th.
