MSI GP Series of notebooks unveiled

MSI-GP60-Photo_01+WallpaperOnce in a while , there is a new range of notebooks that intend to straddle the lines between mobile productivity as well as gaming. The thing is, battery technology has not advanced to such a state where it is possible to gain a whole lot of gaming time while having the highest performance possible. Well, MSI has made an attempt at doing so with the new GP series of notebooks that are touted to deliver exceptional on-the-go performance, as it carries the Intel Core i5 processor, an NVIDIA graphics chipset as well as a SteelSeries gaming keyboard, with prices starting from $899.99 onward.

The GP Series is made up of a single 17-inch and a couple of 16-inch models, where they will arrive equipped with either an Intel Core i7 or Core i5 processors, an NVIDIA GeForce GT740M graphics chipset as well as 8GB DDR3 RAM. Such hardware specifications ought to offer more than adequate juice to work around any tasks. Not only that, it will also merge Sound Blaster Cinema, Matrix Display and Audio Boost technology using gold-flashed audio jacks in order to deliver crystal clear surround sound, with the additional ability to hook up to another two more monitors, while maximizing audio quality for a more immersive experience.

Not only that, there is also the SteelSeries keyboard that will make an appearance here, up to a 1TB hard drive, Giga LAN network and multiple USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 connectivity. Do you think that such hardware specifications would be able to satisfy the hardcore gamer who is always on the move, and yet want to get a spot of gaming in once in a while? I guess that really depends on the situation, and hopefully the gaming performance that the MSI GP Series delivers will be good enough for the more demanding ones out there.

Iron Man 3 Mouse – is this enough to make gaming geeks drool?

Iron Man 3 gaming Mouse
We are faced with many choices of customization when it comes to our computer setup. There are a myriad of types of keyboards, mice, monitors, and more. Even then, there are further choices in special features, colors, and some are collector’s items. While most of us will go with whatever works at our level of proficiency (and what our wallets will allow), others opt for the more aesthetic options.

The Iron Man 3 Mouse from E-Blue looks pretty awesome, but all of the typos in the initial description I found make it seem a little less grand. This is essentially a commonplace gaming mouse with a light and a repaint, but it seems like it is still going to get the job done while looking too cool for school. Anything with a movie tie-in is going to get a lot of recognition, but whether it will actually be up to par is another question entirely.

This mouse has left, right, scroll, DPI, back, and forward buttons, and is capable of pulsating light like the arc reactor. The DPI settings let you choose between 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, and 4000. The polling rate is 125-1000Hz. This isn’t necessarily costly at only $73, but it’s a fairly basic mouse. If you’re a huge Stark fan, then tossing your money at it is understandable, but there are a lot of options out there that will give you more bang for your buck.

Steel Series Apex Keyboard – Just try to stop me

Apex Steel Series Keyboard
There are a lot of choices in terms of keyboards out there for gamers. They always tout having the least amount of latency, extra keys, backlighting, and more features than you have fingers for. Each seems to be more dazzling than the next, but how many of us actually use all of these fancy additions to their fullest?

The Apex Keyboard comes to us from SteelSeries, a company known for its production of quality gaming gear. Judging from the title, this piece of hardware is meant to be the top of the top, with no competition being able to match its greatness. Of course, there will always be one better, but this is a pretty snazzy keyboard. Instead of having regular backlit keys, it has 5 different zones which can all be lit in a huge variety of colors so you know which section controls what.

There are 22 macro keys, with 4 different layers (each layer has its own button on the keyboard), and a SteelSeries button will allow you additional functionality like disabling the Windows key so you don’t have any unfortunate mishaps. These keys are very low profile, and the ‘w’ has two bumps on it so your fingers will be able to quickly realize where they should be so you can get back to the action. For all of those music lovers, there are independent media buttons that will give you all the normal volume controls, skip, back, and more. This will cost you $99, but good luck on actually using this to its fullest potential. For those of you who are wondering, this is not mechanical. While this might not be the first pick of professional gamers, it seems that those of us who play casually (or more than we should) would get plenty of enjoyment out of this piece of hardware.

Alienware Aurora gaming desktop elevates gaming rigs to the next level

alienware-auroraSome gamers like to build their gaming rigs from scratch, as they have plenty of choice and flexibility without busting their budget. The Alienware Aurora gaming desktop can be considered to be such a device, where it has been specially engineered to deliver extreme performance thanks to the inclusion of the new Ivy Bridge-E family of Intel Core i7 4- and 6-core processors.

Not only that, throwing in next generation NVIDIA and AMD graphics up the ante even more, where it delivers an intense gaming experience with realism that even Alienware themselves have never offered. If you happen to have deep pockets, you might want to settle for the optional ALX chassis that boasts of an intelligent thermal management system with Active Venting technology so that everything will run nice and cool even under demanding gaming sessions.

As mentioned earlier, the Aurora would now include the latest Intel Core i7 processors, with an Extreme Edition option to boot, while they can achieve overclock speeds of up to 4.3GHz with Turbo Boost technology. There is also an updated Alienware Command Center software that offers intuitive, user-friendly access to Alienware-exclusive applications and controls, all located under one centralized hub. The Command Center will be accompanied by the exclusive AlienFX lighting control system, letting you create your own custom lighting themes and special effects for that added “wow” factor, making it ideal to impress your mates. CURB offers an alternative laptop stand design

curb-snipA company known as “designed by m” has one primary mission in life – to create products that are not only unique, but also affordable to keep functional and durable company, all without having to go through the painful road of sacrificing quality or style. Jon Liow, the industrial designer over at “designed by m”, is the one behind the CURB. I would say that this is a nice wordplay on the word “kerb”, where the CURB comes across as a stand which will raise laptops to an angle that will further increase airflow, while providing a more ergonomic working position. It has been quite an adventure to bring the CURB from concept to reality, but we are glad to see the company stick to their guns and making the CURB available for pre-order already.

First of all, what does the CURB offer? It might not look like much at first sight, but the wonder of it all would be the overall simplicity of the design. The CURB comes across as a lightweight triangle-shaped bar that would do its bit to ensure that laptops remain nice and cool, where it will raise the laptop placed on the CURB off the surface. Not only that, by doing so, it would further reduce the amount of ambient heat, and hence prolonging the device’s battery life. The triangle shape that the CURB comes in would pave the way for a couple of different degrees of elevation, depending on your preference. There is also a ‘V’-shaped cutout that is located in the middle of the bar, allowing you to snake the cable along, ensuring that the cable will not fall to the ground whenever the laptop is unplugged.

Those who are interested will be able to pick up the CURB in seven colors, where among them include white, dark grey, light gray, pink, blue, lime, and a limited-edition “believer” green. It is made out of food-grade silicon, being lightweight and durable, and will cost $12.99 a pop.

Kinesis Freestyle2 Adjustable Split Keyboard – I like the way you move

Kinesis Freestyle2 keyboard

There are only a few things we really need to use our computer. Obviously a monitor is necessary, but the main tools we use are a mouse and keyboard. They are our direct link to all the things we see on the screen, and we use them quite a bit. That being said, it’s always better if they’re ergonomic so we don’t end up with sore joints later on. While there are many different shapes of mice and wrist rests out there, both have a sort of static layout. Seeing that people are not all structured the same, some may need a bit of a different setup.

The Kinesis Freestyle2 Adjustable Split Keyboard will let you set up your work or home office space in whatever way feels most comfortable to you. This is a very thin keyboard with no slope so your wrists won’t be slanted at an odd angle as you type. There are hotkeys for copy, paste, cut, and more so you won’t have to mouse around or type repetitively. There is a tether that will allow you to separate both halves as you see fit, but it can hook together if you’d like.

You can choose to get a model with either 9 or 20 inches of distance apart, but the latter will cost you an extra $16. The basic keyboard will cost you $89, and you can choose to get various accessories that will allow you to tent and/or angle the two halves. These will cost an additional $22-179 if you’re up for it. One additional piece of of hardware that you’ll likely want is the numeric keypad, but it costs around $36. This would be a good option for people who have or have had wrist, shoulder, or other arm-related joint issues.

The Kinesis Freestyle2 is available from The Human Solution.

Retro Adding Machine Calculator and Mousepad converges frequently used tools

retro-adding-machineA blast from the past is always welcome, whether it is in the world of gaming or fashion. We have seen fashion cycles come and go, and return sometime down the road, and games as well have progressed from an 8-bit environment to a modern day 3D graphical extravaganza. The calculator is an indispensable desk tool to have in certain lines of work, no matter how fast computers and complex programs have become. You still need a regular human trained in the arts of accurate calculator punching to consolidate a bunch of accounts without any error. Well, the latest $9.99 Retro Adding Machine Calculator and Mousepad is certainly something that rolls back the years, and yet it gets the job done somewhat elegantly.

The Retro Adding Machine Calculator and Mousepad does not merely add, subtract, multiply and divide, it would also come with a secondary function – that is, to function as a mousepad so that your precious new mouse’s Teflon-coated feet need not glide over a rough grained wooden table, but rather it would function as the manufacturer intended it to – as smooth as glass. Apart from that, it also shares one aspect with Kal-El – it is solar powered, which means you need not rely on batteries to get the job done. Of course, just in case the world is thrown into a nuclear apocalypse where the sun is blotted out, the non-replaceable button cell battery ought to keep it going, at least for a while.

Logitech Ultrathin Touch Mouse ups the design ante for computer peripherals

logitech-ultrathin-mouseAre all computer peripherals created equal? The easy answer would be a resounding “No!”, although you would find that along the way, you would have experienced that many of the gizmos that you use are pretty much ordinary in their performance, with nothing that really stands out from the rest of the crowd. Logitech might churn out decent, everyday and workmanlike mice and keyboards in the past, but from time to time, they too, have indulged us with some high end performance peripherals. This time around, the Logitech Ultrathin Touch Mouse intends to bridge the gap between style and performance, as it delivers an ideal design and functionality for those who tend to work on the move.

The Logitech Ultrathin Touch Mouse can be certified to be Logitech’s first ultra-portable touch mouse, boasting a slim design that will perfectly complement today’s computers, sporting sleek lines and a brushed aluminum body. Ordinary notebook users might think of it as just another nice mouse to look at, but MacBook and Ultrabook users might just see it otherwise, where this ultra-portable mouse would definitely complement the design found on today’s MacBook and Ultrabook machines.

Thanks to its form factor, the Logitech Ultrathin Touch Mouse can easily slip into any computer sleeve or pocket, boasting a silky-smooth touch surface that has been created thanks to an invisible coating which will help you simplify Windows 8 navigation, or simply allowing you to take full advantage of the Multi-Touch navigation in OS X. Making use of Bluetooth with Logitech Easy-Switch Technology, the Logitech Ultrathin Touch Mouse is capable of hooking up sans wires to your laptop, desktop and tablet – simultaneously, and you can switch among them in a jiffy with but a flip of a switch. The mouse itself can be juiced up via USB, and for those emergency moments, a single minute of charge time delivers you enough power to keep working for another hour (a typical user experience applies here, of course). The Logitech Ultrathin Touch Mouse will arrive in black or white shades, bearing the respective model numbers of T630 and T631, and will retail for $69.99 a pop.

LG IPS 21:9 UltraWide All-In-One PC unveiled at IFA 2013

lg-ips-monitorThe larger, the better. That is more or less the mantra of many people. After all, just take a look at our surroundings – the rich do want ever larger mansions, not to mention bigger bank vaults to hoard ever increasing earthly treasure, while workers want bigger pay packets to bring home. Fast food restaurants always want you to upsize your meals for a dollar or two, but are all of those really necessary? However, when it comes to work and the well being of your health, perhaps “larger is better” is a mantra that is worth following where the desktop computer is concerned. LG might be on to something here with the unveiling of their LG IPS 21:9 UltraWide All-In-One PC (also known as model V960) at IFA 2013 in Berlin, Germany.

This is the latest addition that will further expand the cinematically proportioned display range. The IPS 21:9 UltraWide All-In-One PC is proud to be classified as “an advanced desktop” which is said to pack in enough punch to deliver all the advantages of a 21:9 monitor, without the added bulk of another computer chassis placed somewhere in your room. The V960 will be powered by Microsoft’s Windows 8 as the operating system of choice, hence offering a full-fledged PC experience that will be accompanied by a NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M GPU for advanced graphics processing. After all, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, so that GeForce GT 640M GPU ought to be a relief for gamers and users who want high quality graphical performance on their machine.

Other features of the V960 include picture-in-picture (PIP) functionality, so that you can multitask – for instance, checking up on the latest stock prices while watching a TV channel simultaneously. Apart from that LG’s AIO PC will ship with a keyboard and mouse so that you can get started right out of the box. There is still no word on pricing or regional availability as at press time, but we do hope to hear more about those aspects soon.
