Nokia Lumia 1520 reaches the UK on December 6th, starting at £80 on a £38 per month plan

Nokia Lumia 1520

Brits who’ve been yearning for the Nokia Lumia 1520 will soon get their chance. The supersized Windows Phone is now due to reach the UK on December 6th, when it will be available through O2 at retail and Vodafone through the web. Third-party retailers like Carphone Warehouse and Phones4u will also stock the 6-inch flagship. While the exact pricing will vary, Vodafone will sell the phone for £80 when it’s attached to a £38 per month plan and a 2-year contract; it will be available for free if you subscribe to a beefy £47 plan. The 1520 will undoubtedly be one of the more expensive handsets in the country, then, but it may be worthwhile for those who want one of Nokia’s most powerful devices.

LG G2 confirmed to arrive on Three and O2 in the UK

LG G2 confirmed to arrive on Three and O2 in the UK

Following the formal reveal of the LG G2 yesterday, UK network Three was quick to report its plan to offer the handset “soon,” so we thought we’d follow up with all the other major providers to see where else you’ll eventually be able to find one. O2 is also on board, although it would only commit to a vague release window of “later this year.” Vodafone said it currently has no plans to offer the G2, and while EE has “nothing to announce,” we couldn’t get any assurance that it wouldn’t show up on its 4G network, or on the Orange or T-Mobile brands. Retailer Carphone Warehouse has put a tentative October arrival date on its website, and although we’re still waiting on a response from Phones 4U, you’ll more than likely be able to find it there, too. So, if you’ve developed a particular taste for the slim bezel design and quirky button placement, you’ll have at least a few options come launch time.

HTC One mini launching on almost all UK carriers around August 9th

HTC One Mini launching on all UK carriers from August

We’ve reached out to all of the usual suspects, and only one of them hasn’t stuck a thumb up and winked when we’ve asked if it’ll be carrying HTC’s “diminutive” new smartphone. O2, EE, Vodafone, Phones4U and Carphone Warehouse have all confirmed that they’ll carry the One mini, while ThreeUK has yet to get back to us. There’s no solid information on how much the device will cost on a monthly or one-off basis, but Carphone Warehouse is already accepting sim-free pre-orders for a very plausible £380. That same retailer is also saying that the phone is due to arrive on August 9th, but we’ll take that assertion with a pinch of environmentally-friendly salt.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini gets July 1st release date at Phones 4U, costs more than a GS3

Samsung’s dinkier S4 variant will be available to buy in the UK, starting next week. Phones 4U promises that it’ll be posting its Galaxy S4 Mini preorders on Monday July 1st, while smaller phone sellers like Unlocked Mobiles and Handtec are promising to start sales this weekend. Launching priced at £420 in Phones 4U, it’s arriving at a higher cost than last year’s Galaxy S III, currently £400 on the same site, making the S4 Mini (barring those looking for an incrementally smaller phone) appear a very tough sell to customers. While borrowing some design cues from the Galaxy S 4, the Mini drops down to a 1.7GHz dual-core processor and a pretty underwhelming 4.3-inch qHD AMOLED display, both less than you’d get on the GSIII. Of course, the price could drop substantially after release and EE is already offering S4 Mini preorder customers a free Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 to sweeten the deal.

Samsung confirms Galaxy S 4 Mini: 4.3-inch display, 1.7GHz dual-core processor (updated)

Samsung confirms Galaxy S 4 Mini 43inch display, 17 GHz dualcore processor

So, it might not be a surprise that it was in the works, but its official announcement today almost caught us off guard. Here it is, the Samsung Galaxy S 4 Mini. Now we can say for sure that there’s a (yet to be specified) 1.7GHz dual-core processor, Android 4.2.2, GPS, GLONASS, WiFi, 8GB internal memory (expandable up to 64), and 1.5GB of RAM. The display is a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD affair, which will be kept going by a 1,900mAh battery, with the shooters coming in 8- and 1.9-megapixel resolutions. There’s LTE support — as you’d hope — in 6 band sets, plus single and dual-SIM 3G versions for certain markets. Color choices are white and black (for now), with no official word on price and availability at this time. Mini, just got bigger it seems.

Update: We may have a clearer idea of when the S 4 Mini will be up for grabs — in the UK, at least — as retailer Phones 4U has said it’ll be stocking the handset “when it becomes available in the UK in July 2013.”

As for the Q10’s cost, it’s £36 a month on contract or £549.95 SIM-free, with the black model expected to arrive by the end of April and the alabaster version coming in the weeks after.

Update: Should you miss out on the Phones4U deal (or just don’t want a PlayBook), you can head on over to the Carphone Warehouse to place your pre-order and get a free Bluetooth speaker to pair with your Q10 instead.

Blackberry Z10 UK pricing revealed: all devices 4G-ready, free on £36 per-month contracts

Blackberry Z10 coming to O2, Three, EE, Vodafone UK tomorrow

Liked what you saw? Even happier then, as a Brit, you’ll likely be getting your hands on it months before your US cousins. UK networks have started to announce availability for the handset, with EE, O2, Three and Vodafone already confirmed to be stocking the Z10. Retailers that will also be selling the new BB10 hardware in the British Isles include Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U.

Retailer Phones 4U will launch both color options (exclusively, at least initially) although it hasn’t ventured a contract-free price just yet. The Carphone Warehouse, meanwhile will be offering the Z10 free on contracts of £36 per month on the major networks.

Vodafone will offer the Z10 for £29 on the £42 a month Red Data plan, including unlimited calls and texts as well as 2GB of internet. It’ll be free on the £47 a month variant of the plan, or cost £69 one-off payment on the £37 per month plan. Three UK hasn’t revealed any details beyond that it’ll be stocking the handset.

While all Z10 devices sold will be ready for 4G, according the Waterloo crew, the BlackBerry Z10 will be available to utilize EE’s existing 4G service immediately. The price? It’ll be £50 on a £41 per-month 24 month package, with 1GB of mobile data, as well as unlimited UK calls and texts. No word just yet on whether Orange and T-Mobile will be offering cheaper bundles later. We’ll update here when we hear more pricing details from the other players.

BlackBerry Z10 spotted at retailers prior to BB10 event

BlackBerry Z10 spotted at retailers prior to BB10 event

Looks like retailers might be jumping the gun a bit on the about-to-be-announced BlackBerry Z10 smartphone. Twitter user @bandozer spotted one at a UK Phones4U retailer and managed to snap a pic (after the break), saying that “it looks and feels good,” while our own tipster forwarded us the above image that came from another store. Looks like the only thing that’ll stop the numerous leaks is when RIM finally announces the darned thing — sometime in the next hour or two.

Nokia Lumia 510 will come to the UK, appears briefly at Phones 4U

If you liked the look of the previously India-bound Lumia 510 but live on the other side of the world, there’s now no need to fret. Nokia has just confirmed to Omio that they will be bringing their cheapest Windows Phone device to Blighty — although there’s no word yet on UK-specific pricing or willing carriers. The phone was priced up at $200 when announced, which will net you a humble 4-inch display and 800MHz processor. Retailer Phones 4U accidentally let the Windows Phone 7.8 slab slip out onto its coming soon page and although it’s already been erased, we’ve added some screen-grab proof after the break.

Phones4U launching LIFE Mobile MVNO in March, will use EE’s 3G network

Image

Independent handset retailer Phones4U is set to join the cellular bullfight after it announced it was launching its very own mobile network. It’ll go toe-to-toe with the Carphone Warehouse’s virtual network, TalkTalk, as well as competing for your hearts and wallets with the big four operators. LIFE Mobile will piggyback on Everything Everywhere EE’s backbone, but users will initially be limited to 3G plans only, with 4G services coming later in the year. If you’re worried that every trip to the company’s stores will see LIFE handsets foisted upon you at every turn, company boss Tim Whiting has said that staff will be rewarded for “customer satisfaction” rather than sales. We suggest you try and game the system by telling the manager you’ll only be truly satisfied after a nice cup of tea and a foot rub.

Phones 4u selects EE as UK MVNO partner for the launch of ‘LIFE Mobile’

· EE signs Phones 4u as its 25th UK MVNO

· MVNO set to launch in March 2013, offering customers access to the UK’s largest and fastest 2G and 3G network

· Phones 4u to offer 4G on LIFE Mobile later in 2013

22nd January 2013, United Kingdom: EE, The UK’s most advanced communications company, has announced that Phones 4u, one of the UK’s leading independent mobile retailers, will launch an MVNO on its network in March. LIFE Mobile will offer a wide range of great value tariffs and services that include data packages as standard, reflecting the changing nature of customer usage. The strategic partnership takes EE’s portfolio of MVNO partnerships to 25, and demonstrates EE’s commitment to expanding opportunities for new MVNOs across the UK.

EE offers the UK’s only 4G network, and the widest 3G and 2G coverage in the UK. EE will make 4G available for LIFE Mobile customers later in 2013.

The MVNO agreement is an extension of EE and Phones 4u’s longstanding and successful partnership. EE has been selected based on the strength of its network, its strong industry reputation, and its flexible and technologically advanced MVNO platform, which will allow Phones 4u to launch its service in the UK within months.

Launching in March, the new MVNO will have broad appeal and will offer a variety of tariffs and services that allow customers to choose the right deal for their mobile life.

Marc Overton, Vice President of Wholesale and M2M at EE said: “We’re delighted that EE has been selected as Phones 4u’s MVNO partner, giving us the opportunity to further build on our longstanding and successful relationship. As the largest MVNO operator in the UK, we believe in providing our customers with a choice of deals to meet their needs, and our partners are a key part of our growth strategy.”

“By choosing the EE network, Phones 4u will guarantee its customers access to the UK’s widest 3G coverage, as well as the UK’s only 4G network later in 2013. Our ambition is to provide 4G to key industry players by the end of 2013, and we feel this will open up a world of opportunities for both new and existing partners alike.”

Tim Whiting, Group Chief Executive at Phones 4u, said: “We are delighted to be able to extend our longstanding partnership with EE in order to add LIFE Mobile into the wide range of products and services available at Phones 4u. Our customers see their mobile devices as an integral part of their daily lives. LIFE Mobile will enable us flexibility and creativity in designing propositions to give our customers even further choice. We will sell LIFE Mobile alongside our existing network propositions and are confident the new network will play a key role in driving further growth for our business.”
