Sony A99 To Be Discontinued This Summer [Rumor]

Sony A99 To Be Discontinued This Summer [Rumor]The Sony A99 was announced back in 2012 and is one of Sony’s more high-end DSLR cameras. It is certainly a beast with its specs but according to the folks at Sony Alpha Rumors, it seems that the Sony A99 could be discontinued soon. This is according to one of their sources who tipped them off to the possibility that the Sony A99 could be discontinued this summer.

Sony has yet to make any official announcements and as it stands, the Sony A99 is still available for purchase via your usual retailers, so it looks like the camera is still around and available for purchase, at least for now. Their source goes on to inform them that there is a possibility that the Sony A99 will be getting a successor, although no word on what kind of specs we might be looking at.

Like we said, nothing official from Sony yet so do take it with a grain of salt, but if you liked what the A99 brought to the table and were hoping that Sony would release a successor with better specs and improved functions and features, perhaps we will learn more in the coming weeks or months, so be sure to check back with us then to see if there are any additional details that can be had.

Canon Teases Announcement For 24th April

Canon Teases Announcement For 24th AprilHeads up photographers and Canon fans, it seems that the Japanese camera company has an announcement that they are planning on making this coming Thursday. It is unclear what it is but the teaser was posted on Canon Hong Kong’s Facebook page and all it shows what appears to be a cup that can be found during Japanese tea ceremonies, along with a quote.

The quote is from an essay by Jun’ichiro Tanizaki which when translated reads, “beauty lies not in objects but in the interaction between the shadow and light created by objects.” It’s a bit mysterious and we’re not sure what it could be referring to. There is a chance that the teaser could be about a new camera announcement, but at the same time it could also be related to camera lenses or new accessories from the camera manufacturer.

Some have speculated that the quote could allude to a new fast prime lens with a possible aperture of f/0.95, which not only makes the lens incredibly bright and a joy to shoot with in low-light situations, but it sounds like it could also be used to create photos with shallow depth of field.

We can only imagine that this lens could cost a fortune but either way, check back with us on the 24th of April for the details.

Nikon 1 V3 Is Now Shipping

Nikon 1 V3 Is Now ShippingThe Nikon 1 V3 is one of Nikon’s newer mirrorless camera models. The camera was announced back in March and the good news is that if you were thinking about getting your hands on it, reports are now saying that the camera is currently being shipped. Interested photographers will be able to get their hands on it by heading on over to Amazon’s website or B&H, although the latter does state that it is expected to begin shipping on the 24th of April.

It should also be noted that B&H is throwing in a free Nikon FT1 mount adapter, so if you don’t mind waiting an extra week, perhaps this might be a pretty good deal. That being said if you missed our earlier coverage of the camera’s launch, here’s a quick recap for you guys. The Nikon 1 V3 will pack an 18.4MP sensor. The camera will also come with built-in WiFi connectivity and will be able to record Full HD video.

For those who want to experiment with something more creative, the Nikon 1 V3 can also record in slow-motion at 720p at 120fps. Nikon has also included a new image processor with the camera and it will now be able to shoot photos continuously at 20fps which could come in handy if you’re looking to snap action shots.

The camera will also come with a 3-inch touchscreen display that can be tilted so that you can get some pretty interesting angles, and will come bundled with a NIKKOR VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 PD-ZOOM kit lens, assuming that the kit lens bundle is what you were after. In terms of design, Nikon has made some changes over its predecessors, with its grip being less protruding, but other than that it is still a pretty small and compact device.

All White Canon EOS 100D Announced For The UK

All White Canon EOS 100D Announced For The UKBack in 2013, Canon announced the EOS 100D DSLR camera. The camera is pretty small as far as DSLRs are concerned but we guess it makes it easier to carry compared to the higher-end professional cameras which tend to be much bigger and heavier. That being said, it seems that Canon has an exclusive model that they have announced in the UK in the form of an all-white EOS 100D camera which you can see pictured above.

As you can see in the image above, the entire camera has been painted white, save for certain parts of the camera, but safe to that pretty much the entire camera has been given a new coat of paint which we have to say is pretty striking. We can only imagine that it will look pretty good and sleek in the snow, especially if you’re trying to camouflage the camera.

In terms of the hardware, it will pack the same hardware as the regular EOS 100D. This means that photographers can look forward to an 18MP hybrid CMOS AF II sensor. It will also come with an optical viewfinder, a larger touchscreen display, Full HD video recording, and will also come bundled with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens that has also been given a coat of white paint.

If you’re looking to attach a different lens, then we guess there will be a clash of colors, but if the 18-55mm kit lens is more than enough for you, then you’re looking at a pretty sleek looking device. As for pricing and availability, Canon has announced that the white EOS 100D will be priced at £499/€599 and will be available starting from May 2014.

Sony A7s Priced In The UK At £2,500 Body-Only

Sony A7s Priced In The UK At £2,500 Body OnlyWhen Sony officially unveiled the Sony A7s, they did not mention how much it would cost, but thanks to a retailer in the UK who has started taking pre-orders, we can get an idea of how much the camera could cost, and boy does it not come cheap!

According to the retailer, WexUK, they have started taking pre-orders for the Sony A7s and have priced the camera at £2,500 for the body-only (meaning that if you wanted to get it with the kit lens, you’re going to have to pay more).

Now we know you guys are probably thinking that this might just be a placeholder price, but apparently it isn’t. When asked on Twitter to confirm the price as to whether it is official or if it simply their guess, WexUK replied by saying that the prices were given to them by Sony, although they do note that it is possible that it could change from now until its release date.

At the moment WexUK sells the Sony A7r for £1,669 which makes the Sony A7s around 50% more expensive. If we were to apply that logic for US prices and take the A7r’s price in the US under consideration, it would mean that the A7s in the US could cost a whopping $3,450 which is undoubtedly a lot more expensive than we would have liked.

Then again different countries have different pricing schemes and methods, taking into consideration the currency and local taxes, so hopefully in the US it will not be that much more expensive.  What do you guys think? If the Sony A7s was that expensive in the US, would you still consider it based on its features?

Nikon 1 J4 Is Official

Nikon 1 J4 Is OfficialJust yesterday we reported that a recent photo and specs of the alleged Nikon 1 J4 camera was leaked online, and for those who are interested in Nikon’s mirrorless lineup, you might be interested to learn that the Nikon 1 J4 has since been officially announced, although at this point in time pricing and availability in the US remains unknown, although if it is anything like its successor, it could be priced around the $600-$800 region.

As per the rumors, the Nikon 1 J4 does indeed pack an 18MP sensor, an 18.4MP sensor to be exact. In fact it’s actually the same sensor that is being used by the Nikon 1 V3, but it’s also an upgrade over the Nikon 1 J3’s 14.3MP sensor, but then again megapixels aren’t everything but we guess from a marketing perspective, it does matter.

The camera will also feature Nikon’s Expeed 4A processing engine with a hybrid autofocus system and a continuous shooting speed of 20 frames per second. For those who are interested in its video capabilities, the camera will also be able to capture videos in 1920×1080 resolution at 60fps, but it is possible to go 120fps if you’re willing to drop to a HD resolution instead.

The Nikon 1 J4 will also feature built-in WiFi that will allow users to wireless transfer photos or videos, and interestingly enough, Nikon has also changed the memory card format of the camera so that it will now support the microSD card format as well, even though SD cards appear to be the standard for cameras at the moment. We’re not sure why but if you have an microSD card lying around, you should be able to use it with the camera.

Like we said pricing and availability remain unknown for now, but for the Japanese version of the camera, it is expected to be shipped with a 10-30mm lens.

Nikon Coolpix S810c Announced, Runs On Android

Nikon Coolpix S810c Announced, Runs On AndroidCameras, for the most part, run on their own proprietary software, although given the open nature of Android and the apps available for the platform, we’ve seen how some camera manufacturers have decided to integrate Android into their cameras, perhaps presenting photographers with a more familiar user interface.

That being said, it seems that Nikon is trying their hand at another Android camera with the recently announced Nikon Coolpix S810c, which we guess would be the successor of the Coolpix 800c from back in 2012.

The camera itself is a pretty basic digital compact camera which will pack a 16MP sensor under the hood. It will also come with a 12x digital zoom lens, a 3.7-inch display, geotagging, vibration reduction, Full HD video recording, and even Google Play support.

There’s even a pretty interesting feature where photographers can add their own comments to their photo, perhaps to note a particular moment when the photo was taken, or perhaps to explain why they chose to take that particular shot, and so on. The camera will also run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and will come with WiFi for wireless transferring of photos.

Priced at $350, the Nikon Coolpix S810c is expected to see a release around May, so if you’re in the market for a new camera, perhaps the Coolpix S810c could be what you were looking for.

Alleged Nikon 1 J4 Photo And Specs Leaked

Alleged Nikon 1 J4 Photo And Specs LeakedBack in March, Nikon announced their latest mirrorless camera in the form of the Nikon 1 V3. However it seems that the Nikon 1 V3 is not the only mirrorless camera Nikon has up their sleeves. This is thanks to recent rumors and now a recent photo leak of the upcoming Nikon 1 J4 that is rumored to debut next week.

Naturally Nikon has not confirmed any of this so take it with a grain of salt for now, although given that Nikon’s mirrorless cameras do come in the V and J variety, we guess an update to its J-lineup is expected. (more…)

Sony A7s Is Official: High ISO Range, 4K Video Capture

According to a rumor we heard last week, it was suggested that the Sony A7s could be launched over the weekend. It turns out that the rumor is true as Sony has since officially announced the device where it will be joining its other A7x siblings, the Sony A7 and the A7r, both of which were announced back in October of 2013.

So, what’s new about the Sony A7s? Well according to Sony, the Sony A7s is the company’s latest full-frame camera which sports a 12.2MP sensor. Interestingly it seems that Sony isn’t playing the megapixels game and has kept it as a somewhat sensible 12.2MP, rather than opting for something larger.

For those who actually do need the extra megapixels to print out large photos, then we guess this isn’t the camera for you, but for casual photographers or enthusiasts, we reckon 12.2MP is more than enough to get by. The Sony A7s will even feature an extended ISO of as much as 409,600, meaning that low-light photography shouldn’t be an issue, although we have to wonder about the noise in photos at those levels.

Other features includes the ability to record videos at 4K resolution, a feature which was not present on either the A7 or the A7r. The A7s will also play nicely with Sony’s range of A-mount lenses so if you’ve been collecting Sony lenses, then they should fit on the Sony A7s and save you the time and money from having to go look for new ones.

Unfortunately has not announced when or how much the Sony A7s will cost but given that the Sony A7 and A7r are priced between $2,000-$2,300 for the body-only models, we can only assume that the A7s will be around that price range as well, hopefully.

Sony A7s Rumored For Launch This Sunday

Sony A7s Rumored For Launch This SundayJust last year, Sony unveiled two new cameras in the form of the Sony A7 and A7r, and now according to the rumors, it looks like Sony could be adding another camera to that range in the form of the Sony A7s.

This is according to the folks at Sony Alpha Rumors who claims that their source has tipped them off regarding the camera’s existence and that it will actually be unveiled at an event this Sunday at Las Vegas at 2PM, so if Sony cameras are your thing, perhaps this is an event worth checking out.

The full specifications of the Sony A7s have yet to be confirmed but so far what we do know about the camera is that it will pack a new 12MP full-frame sensor. This seems to go against the market which promotes more megapixels, although we reckon that 12MP will do just fine, unless you really need to print your photos in really high resolution.

The camera is also rumored to be able to shoot in 4K resolution for videos so if you’re a proponent of 4K video, then perhaps this camera might be of interest to you. No word on availability or pricing just yet, but given the prices of the Sony A7 and A7r, we’re guessing it should be somewhere around those prices as well, either way check back with us then for the details.
