Nokia Russia Offers Free Photography Lessons For Lumia 1020 Customers

The Nokia Lumia 1020 is probably one of Nokia’s best camera phones to date and so far based on what we have heard, it is comparable, if not better, than the top smartphones out there like the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S4. In any case what’s the point of having such a great camera on a smartphone if you don’t know how to use it, right? Well it looks like Nokia is attempting to right the wrong because over in Russia, it seems that Nokia Russia is offering their Lumia 1020 customers free photography lessons that will hopefully improve their photography skills, allowing to fully take advantage of the Lumia 1020’s camera.

The photography lessons are conducted online and will be held with Russian photography school, fotoshkola.net that is worth around $40. The tutorials will be delivered by famed Russian photographer, Vladimir Kotov, and students will also be expected to work on homework assignments and have their photos reviewed by a team. For Russian Lumia 1020 owner if you guys want to take advantage of this promotion, all you’d have to do is install the Fotoshkola app on your device, in which you will receive a PIN that allows you to redeem the lessons for free. This offer is valid until the 14th of January 2014. Pretty awesome idea we reckon; who else would love to see Nokia offer this to other Lumia users around the world?

Possible Sony Camera Roadmap For 2014 Revealed [Rumor]

Possible Sony Camera Roadmap For 2014 Revealed [Rumor]It wasn’t too long ago that Sony took the wraps off their new full-frame mirrorless cameras, the Sony A7 and A7R and now according to Sony Alpha Rumors, they have managed to obtain Sony’s camera roadmap for 2014 although we’re not sure if this is the entire list of the devices planned, or if it is only a partial list, but given Sony Alpha Rumors’ track record of being spot on with their leaks and rumors, it’s worth taking a look at. According to their source, it seems that Sony will have a bunch of new and exciting cameras to show off in 2014, and will cater to both photographers who want a regular DSLR system, and to those who want a mirrorless system.

Assuming their sources are correct, come 2014 we can look forward to new APS-C E-mount cameras. One of these cameras is expected to be the successor of the NEX-7 (which has been rumored for a while now), and possible entry-level devices. We can also look forward to a new A-mount full-frame camera, new full-frame E-mount cameras, a potential hybrid A- and E-mount camera, and a slim chance of there being a APS-C A-mount device. The latter might be a no-show, but apparently there are prototypes in the works and it’s a matter of whether Sony thinks it’s ready for primetime. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but if you’re a camera enthusiast, these are definitely devices worth looking forward to.

Nikon DF Could Be The Name Of Their Full-Frame Hybrid Camera [Rumor]

Nikon DF Could Be The Name Of Their Full Frame Hybrid Camera [Rumor]Over the past week we have seen and heard rumors that Nikon is planning a full-frame hybrid mirrorless camera, and the latest tease came in the form of a video which supposedly will lead up to the official announcement that is currently rumored for November. In any case according to the folks at Nikon Rumors, they have been tipped off about the possibility of the name of the upcoming device and that will be known as the Nikon DF, with the DF standing for “Digital Fusion” which is a pretty sounding name. We’re not sure if this is the actual name itself or if it will be the name of the lineup of similar cameras in the future, but it’s definitely a name we’ll be taking note of.

While the exact specifications of the camera remain somewhat of a mystery for now, the rumors are claiming that the AF system used in the Nikon DF will be similar to that of the Nikon D610 and will feature 39-points. The camera will also reportedly have settings for 1:1, 3:2, and 16:9 aspect ratios, sport a full-frame sensor, sport a retro-like design along the lines of the Nikon FM2, and interestingly enough might omit the video recording function entirely, although we’re not sure why. Either way take it with a grain of salt for now, but we’ll be keeping our eyes and ears peeled for more info along the way.

Polaroid iM1836 Now Available For Purchase

Polaroid iM1836 Now Available For PurchaseEarlier this year during CES, camera manufacturer Polaroid took the wraps off their entry-level micro four-thirds camera that runs on Android, the Polaroid iM1836. Well the good news is that even after waiting for almost a year and this is the camera you still have your heart set on, you’re in luck as the camera has finally been released and is available for purchase via retailers for a rather affordable price tag of $299. Interestingly enough this is even cheaper than Polaroid had originally announced and ultimately you would have saved yourself $100 in total.

So what can you expect for your money? Well for starters you can look forward to a 10-30mm kit lens that will come bundled with the camera. The camera itself will feature a 18.1MP sensor and a 3.5” touchscreen display, which you can use to interact with its Android 4.1 Jelly Bean user interface. Thanks to its operating system of choice, it is possible that you can look forward to more features and flexibility compared to other cameras that use their own operating system. The iM1836 will come with both Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity and Full HD 1080p video capture, with Polaroid boasting “DSLR quality” for its photos. If this sounds like a good deal for you, you can hit up Amazon where the camera has been listed as shipping within 2-5 weeks.

Nikon Releases Teaser Video For Upcoming Camera Announcement

We have been hearing the rumours that Nikon is looking to launch a hybrid mirrorless camera system that will feature a full-frame sensor, something along the lines of Sony’s recently announced A7 and A7R. The rumours are claiming that the announcement of the alleged device is coming soon, and that it is possible that it will take place in November, so we guess it does not come as a complete surprise that Nikon has since released a short teaser video titled, “Pure Photography #1”, indicating that we might be able to expect more teasers in the future.

We’re not sure what is the point of the video, but presumably it is a teaser for the upcoming device. The video is short and ends with the man saying, “It’s in my hands again”, and with the description reading, “A photographer stands alone in a bleak landscape. Something has been missing in his creative life. Will he find it here?” Could that “missing” thing be a full-frame mirrorless Nikon hybrid camera? We guess we will just have to wait and find out, but in the meantime for those who are curious, you can check out the video above to see what we are talking about. In the meantime what do you guys make of it? Could this be the first of several teaser videos leading up to the announcement?

Nikon Germany To Focus On Full-Frame Nikon Products

Nikon Germany To Focus On Full Frame Nikon ProductsCamera companies such as Nikon and Canon have released both full-frame and non-full frame cameras in the past, although with the focus starting to shift towards more compact cameras with full-frame sensors, such as Sony’s recently announced A7 and A7r cameras, and with the rumours suggesting that Nikon could be exploring a similar device as well, we guess it’s not too surprising that Nikon Germany has announced that they will start to focus on full-frame cameras and will be launching a dedicated website soon.

According to the press release, “Nikon puts in Germany the full-frame imaging in the focus and concentrates trade and communication activities on its strong portfolio of powerful FX cameras. Driven by the demand of an ever wider audience has increased significantly over the past year, the share of FX full-frame segment in the overall market for digital SLR cameras. The company wants to exploit the existing growth potential in this segment even more and increase the fascination for the full-frame imaging on.” We’re not sure why Nikon’s Germany operations was chosen for this role given that Nikon operates globally, but it will be interesting to see the fruits of their efforts.

    Samsung NX300 Camera Review

Samsung NX300 Camera ReviewSamsung never used to be a big name in film cameras but has become one of the leading brands in digital photography. Ironically, its popular Galaxy smartphones are helping to dig a grave for point-and-shoot cameras – including Samsung’s own. In response, the company is following an idustry trend by focusing on “compact-system cameras,” which feature interchangeable lenses and promise the performance of a grown-up SLR in a small and light-weight body.

The NX300 is Samsung’s flagship model of this kind, aiming at ambitious photographers who want more than just megapixels. Because sure, even smartphones snap pictures now that are big enough to print a real-life wallpaper – but if you want a good zoom, play with depth-of-field, and generally go beyond the simple “click!” you may still want to consider a real camera with extra talents.

Or so the makers hope. But they’re willing to meet you half-way: if you like to post your favorite shots on the Internet this very second, straight from the camera, the NX300 can play along. Wi-Fi Internet is built in, and Samsung claims that its camera’s specialty is to “shoot fast, share faster.” True? Well, let’s see… (more…)

Limited Edition Ricoh GR Camera Revealed

Limited Edition Ricoh GR Camera RevealedCameras are typically released in rather boring finishes and are usually of the black variety, but then again we guess photographers might be more interested in how it performs rather than how it looks, right? However if you fancy yourself a bit of a fashionista and would like your camera to look as good as you, you’re in luck as Ricoh as recently announced a limited edition GR camera that may or may not be right up your alley. As expected with most, if not all, special/limited edition camera releases, the hardware under the hood will remain the same, with the main difference being its look.

In the case of the GR camera, Ricoh has given it a new color, a “stylish” green, wave-patterned body, with a silver shutter button and ring cap. It will also get a redesigned camera grip which is now in black and will come with a glossy, wood-grain finish. The lens ring of the camera will be diamond-engraved with the GR product name, and the entire package will come with exclusive accessories that include a lens hood and adapter, and a brown, genuine leather case and strap. This limited edition Ricoh GR camera will be made available mid-November 2013 for the UK and will be priced at £699.99 and will be limited to 5,000 units worldwide.

Nikon’s Rumored Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera Might Not Have Video Recording

Nikons Rumored Full Frame Mirrorless Camera Might Not Have Video RecordingThe other day we reported on a rumor that Nikon could be looking to introduce their own full-frame mirrorless hybrid camera, and now thanks to additional information obtained by the folks at Nikon Rumors, we now know a little bit more about the upcoming camera. According to the latest information, they claim that the upcoming Nikon camera will not have video recording capabilities which is kind of odd, given that most, if not all cameras these days offer video recording. Even low-end smartphones are starting to incorporate Full HD video capture, so it is a bit of a surprise that this upcoming Nikon camera doesn’t. However since this isn’t an official announcement, take it with a grain of salt for now.

The camera has also been speculated for a possible 6th of November announcement. This has been speculated due to German store, Dinkel Foto, having a special “world premiere” on the 6th of November, and since it does not appear that other camera manufacturers have big announcements of their own up their sleeves, it has been presumed that this could be the date that Nikon announces said camera. For those who haven’t been following the news, this alleged Nikon camera will be a full-frame mirrorless hybrid device with a 16.2MP sensor and sport a retro design, similar to that of the Nikon FM2. Take all this with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully official information will be provided in the near future.
