Lomography Announces Experimental Lens Kit For Micro Four Thirds Cameras

Lomography Announces Experimental Lens Kit For Micro Four Thirds CamerasLomography, the camera company, has released many cameras in the past that have defied how photography should look like. The company’s products have typically allowed for creation of photographs with weird colors and effects which is a departure from how photographers usually prefer to take their photos and where they strive for color balance, sharpness, and etc. Now for those who own Micro Four Thirds cameras, you might be interested to learn that Lomography has announced an “Experimental Lens Kit” for your cameras which will bring about the same weird colors and effects to your photographs, although the main difference here we guess would be how your camera actually processes it.

The lens kit includes a 24mm standard lens, a 12mm f/8.0 wide-angle lens, and a fisheye lens with an aperture of f/8.0 as well. Each lens will come with a built-in shutter speed of 1/100sec and Bulb which will allow for multiple exposures, and a T-mode that will hold the shutter open for a normal live view. For those who wish to experiment with colors and effects further, each lens will have a slot that will accommodate color gel filters. The entire lens kits will set you back 79 GBP, although we suspect that this lens kit will probably not be for everyone, but could be worth checking out if you wish to try a bit of experimental photography.

Nikon Full-Frame Mirrorless Hybrid Rumored For Announcement Soon

Nikon Full Frame Mirrorless Hybrid Rumored For Announcement SoonLast week Sony announced their new Sony A7 and A7R and one of the more interesting and probably key aspects of both cameras is that not only were they mirrorless camera systems, but they were full-frame cameras as well, a feature that we’re sure is greatly appreciated by both the enthusiast and professional photographer. Given that most full-frame cameras come in bulky bodies, having a full-frame sensor crammed into such a compact design would most definitely be welcome. However it seems that Nikon might have something similar in the works and that device could be announced in the near future. (more…)

Sony Alpha7R And Alpha 7 Become Official

Sony Alpha7R And Alpha 7 Become OfficialAfter having been leaked a couple of days ago, the Sony A7 and A7R have now gone “official”. Both cameras use the E-mount and share lenses with the Sony NEX Series. The FE premium lenses for full-frame sensors would be more adequate, but there are so few of them… Those cameras are the full-frame monsters that die-hard fans were hoping for, and they respectively use impressive 36 and 24 Megapixel sensors. In fact, that’s so many pixels that Sony has decided to remote the low-pass filter (blurring) on the Alpha 7R. (more…)

    Sony Cyber-Shot RX10 High-Powered Zoom Compact Camera

Sony Cyber Shot RX10 High Powered Zoom Compact CameraSony has just announced the RX10, a 24-200mm (about 8X optical zoom) fixed lens camera that has a fixed (and large!) f2.8 aperture. This is really interesting in terms of specifications, because it’s not easy to find this type of f2.8 (constant) zoom lens in compact cameras. The sensor of the RX10 is the same as the one found in the (awesome) Sony RX100 II camera, and if you are not familiar with either of them, this sensor is about 4X larger than what is commonly found in compact cameras. Sony’s goal is to have power-users “reach their DSLRs less and less”. (more…)

Limited Edition Canon PowerShot S120 And G16 Coming Soon

Limited Edition Canon PowerShot S120 And G16 Coming SoonWhen it comes to cameras, we’re guessing photographers are more concerned about how well it performs, rather than how it looks. Granted looks do matter, but essentially it’s what’s underneath that counts, right? Well either way if you’re after some cameras and wouldn’t mind a limited edition look to them, Canon is expected to launch limited edition models of their PowerShot S120 and PowerShot G16 cameras, with pre-orders of both cameras expected to open come 30th October 2013 via Canon’s eStore. The hardware powering the cameras will be the same as their regular edition models, with the main difference being their looks.

Customers will be able to choose color options as well as choose to place an engraving on the cameras if they wish. There will be special accessories bundled and put together in special packaging as well. For those who are interested and wouldn’t mind getting their hands on said cameras, you can expect the Canon PowerShot S120 to retail for $560, while the PowerShot G16 will go for around $700.

    Nikon D610 Announced

Nikon D610 AnnouncedNot too long ago it was rumored that Nikon could be announcing a new camera on the 7-8 of October in the form of the Nikon D610, and sure enough the rumors were right on the money as the camera has since been announced. According to the rumors, the D610 was expected to be a slight upgrade over the Nikon D600 which means that if you were looking forward to groundbreaking hardware specifications and features, you might be disappointed. However those who were holding off on purchasing the D600, perhaps this is the camera for you, and for those looking to get the D600, chances are the D610 will be its replacement so you might want to move quick while D600 units are still in stock.

The changes Nikon has made includes an improved shutter mechanism and new quiet continuous shooting options. It will also see a higher FPS rate and improved white balance and is expected to be released late October and will come with a price tag of $2,000 for the body-only. Given that this is essentially the D600 with upgraded features, photographers can look forward to a 24.3MP sensor, an ISO range of 100-6,400, a 39-point AF system, 100% viewfinder coverage, Full HD video recording, and a 3.2” LCD display.

Samsung NX300M Announced For South Korea

Samsung NX300M Announced For South KoreaEarlier this year, Samsung took the wraps off their NX300 camera but it looks like they have recently given the device an upgrade, although it looks like the upgrade will be targeted at the South Korean market. The upgrade comes in the form of the NX300M and for the most part, the camera will retain the same hardware specifications as the NX300 albeit with some minor changes that we doubt would be worth the upgrade if you already own the camera, but for those who don’t, perhaps these minor tweaks could be worth spending money on.

For starters the NX300M will feature a 3.31” AMOLED display that is tiltable up to 180-degrees. This is compared to the NX300 where the display could only be tilted at 90-degrees and 45-degrees. That’s pretty much the only difference, but other specs suc has its 20.3MP APS-C CMOS sensor, Hybrid Auto Focus system, and DRIMe IV imaging engine should be still in place. Available in a variety of colors with an 18-55mm kit lens, the Samsung NX300M will set customers back 899,000 Won, with an offer valid until the 30th of November where a free premium brown bag and shoulder strap will be thrown in with every purchase.

Samsung Announces New 13MP Camera Sensor With OIS

Samsung Announces New 13MP Camera Sensor With OISWhen it comes to cameras, larger megapixels does not always dictate the quality of the camera as many photographers will tell you, but unfortunately it is a numbers game and many smartphone manufacturers have tried to upstage one another by offering cameras with larger megapixels on their smartphones. Well the good news is that Samsung’s Electro-Mechanics subsidiary has announced a new camera sensor which does not appear to be trying to up the megapixel count, but rather its features. The new 13MP camera sensor is said to offer up better performance compared to other 13MP camera sensors out there.

For starters the sensor will feature an anti-shake function that will allow the photographer to correct an angular error of up to 1.5 degrees, which is apparently more than double that of regular cameras. This should, on paper, translate to less blurry photos. The sensor will also allow for low-light photography by boosting its brightness by up to eight times. To top it all off, the new sensor is small enough that it should fit into most smartphones today, meaning that come 2014, manufacturers who plan to utilize the sensor should be able to fit it into their products without having to compromise on its thickness.

As it stands Samsung is sampling the sensor and plans to begin mass production come 2014, although we have to wonder if this new sensor will make its way into the new Samsung Galaxy S5.

Sony Full-Frame NEX Cameras To Be Known As The A7 And A7r [Rumor]

Sony Full Frame NEX Cameras To Be Known As The A7 And A7r [Rumor]So word on the street has it that come 16th of October, there is a good chance of Sony launching their full-frame NEX cameras. We’re sure some of you guys are also curious as to what the devices could be known as. Well according to Sony Alpha Rumors, Sony has decided to stick with the Alpha moniker for all of its high-end devices, regardless whether they are E-mount or A-mount, and as it turns out, the first two full-frame NEX cameras will be known as the A7 and the A7r, with the A7 being the cheaper model, while the A7r is the high-end model.

Both cameras are expected to be identical, save for the 24MP in the cheap model, and the 36MP in the expensive one. The rest of the camera’s features include a NEX-7 grip, an EVF in the middle (similar to the Olympus OMD design), and will be around the same size as the Sony RX1. Once again Sony has yet to make anything official so do take it with a grain of salt for now, but the A7 and A7r are both models we’ll be keeping our eyes out for, so be sure to check back with us later in the month to see if there are additional updates to be had.
