Perhaps back in the day when cameras on smartphones took pretty low quality images, people didn’t really care about the megapixels or the camera technology as much as they do today. Nowadays people are slightly more fussy when it comes to image quality on their phones and features like the ability to capture photos in low-lighting conditions, image stabilization, and so on are important.

Of course sometimes there is some bias going on. Some people genuinely believe their phone is the best for taking photos because they love the brand, so in order to find out which phone truly takes the best photos from an unbiased point of view, the folks at PhoneArena have conducted a blind test with a variety of photos, asking people to vote on which looks best. If you’re in the market for a new camera, Olympus has a couple of new cameras for you, one of them being the recently announced Olympus STYLUS SH-1. The STYLUS SH-1 is a compact digital camera for those who needs a camera to bring with them on the go but don’t want to spend too much on newer mirrorless cameras or deal with the bulk that usually accompanies DSLRs.

According to Olympus, the STYLUS SH-1 will feature a 16MP sensor and will come with a 25-600mm zoom lens. The lens will have an aperture of f/3-6.9 which isn’t as bright as we would have liked but we reckon it should be good enough to get the job done, although under low-lighting conditions you might want to bump the ISO. We have been hearing quite a number of rumors lately regarding the Sony A77’s successor, which at the moment is currently tipped to be the A77II. According to earlier rumors, apparently the camera is due for an announcement in May and now according to Sony Alpha Rumors, they are “confirming” that this is true.

Apparently they have been tipped off by one of their highly trusted sources who revealed to them that the announcement will be made in May. In fact the announcement will actually be taking place at the World Photography Awards that will be held in London during the 1st to 18th of May. (more…)

Camera manufacturers like Sony create devices for all sorts of photographers. From devices that target families and simple users, to high-end devices that target the enthusiast and the professional photographer, but it looks like Sony’s strategy for 2014 could be changing, at least according to an alleged leaked slide.

The leaked slide was posted by Korean website Naver and according to the translation, it seems that Sony will be entering “Phase 2” of their strategy which basically involves the focus on the high-end market. (more…)

Photographers if you’re in the market for a new camera, perhaps you might be interested in checking out the Sony A3500, a camera which will apparently be replacing the Sony A3000. We find that a little odd since the A3000 is less than a year old, but maybe Sony has their own reasons.

The folks at Sony Alpha Rumors have managed to get their hands on several photos of the upcoming handset along with its specifications. Now we should note that none of this is official yet so for all we know they could be changed when the camera has been officially launched. (more…)
