Canon Looking To Enter Surveillance Camera Market

Canon Looking To Enter Surveillance Camera MarketThe compact camera market isn’t doing as well as it was from a few years ago, causing companies such as Nikon to express their concern and possibly start exploring other avenues. Canon appears to be doing that as well, and while Canon might be known by many as the manufacturer of commercial camera products for both amateurs and professional photographers, it seems that Canon is now eyeing the surveillance market as a market that they could tap into for the future.

According to Canon’s President and CEO, Fujio Mitarai, “A major focus for the next phase is increasing our business-to-business (B2B) sales, and of course security cameras – which is a huge market – is part of that.” As it stands research by IHS has forecasted the surveillance camera market to grow by two-thirds and is expected to be worth $27 billion by 2017. Canon aims to reach annual sales of about $1 billion from that sector alone in their five year plan which they expect to kick off in 2016.

Canon will not be the first camera manufacturer to venture into the surveillance camera market as Panasonic has been doing it for a while now, with the company reporting  $136 million in sales the last quarter. Sony has also been reported to be interested in the surveillance camera market as well and will be looking to leverage their image sensor technology.

Alleged Sony A3000 (ILC-3000) Photo Leaked

Alleged Sony A3000 (ILC 3000) Photo Leaked

Based on previous reports and rumors, we know that Sony is working on a camera known as the A3000, or ILC-3000 depending on which market you are in. The camera is rumored to be an E-mount camera with its main selling point being its price, which last we heard was rumored to cost a somewhat affordable £300 for the body-only. Another feature of the camera is that instead of taking the design route of the NEX series of E-mount cameras, Sony has instead been rumored to choose a more SLT-like design, except that it will be E-mount compatible.

Thanks to a recently leaked photo, we now have an idea of what the upcoming A3000 might look like. True enough based on this leaked photo, it definitely looks like one of Sony’s SLT cameras, except that it will support E-mount lenses. Of course there’s no telling if this image is real, so do take it with a grain of salt for now. Some of the rumored specs of the camera includes a 20MP sensor, and a 230K resolution LCD display, and an ISO range of up to 16,000. While it does look like an SLT camera, it is actually pretty small as additional photos have surfaced on the Dyxum forums that shows off its size.

No word on when Sony will announce the A3000, but the August/September timeframe  seems to be what the rumors are saying for now.

    Additional Sony NEX-5T Photos Leaked

Additional Sony NEX 5T Photos LeakedIt was just yesterday that we caught images of the Sony NEX-5T, an upcoming camera from Sony that will be part of its NEX lineup of mirrorless cameras, and supposedly will be an upgrade over the NEX-5R. Well just in case yesterday’s photos were clear enough, new images have surfaced which are allegedly that of the NEX-5T and they appear to be the press shots of the upcoming camera. As you can see in the image above, at least upon first glance, it does not appear to be too different from the NEX-5R which is what previous rumors have been claiming.

We guess the changes in the NEX-5T would be more under the hood, as the camera will sport NFC connectivity, presumably to allow it to pair with mobile devices like some of Sony’s Xperia range of Android smartphones. It will also come with FN-button control similar to SLT cameras, and a new Menu interface amongst other things. It is also rumored to use the same sensor as the NEX-5R so don’t expect any drastic improvements in terms of picture quality. In any case it is possible that the NEX-5T could be announced towards the end of August, so check back with us then for the updates.

    Alleged Sony NEX-5T Photo Surfaces

Alleged Sony NEX 5T Photo SurfacesWe know that Sony has a new camera in the works which will be part of its NEX lineup of mirrorless cameras, and the NEX-5T has been confirmed in a recent sighting at the Taiwanese NCC Agency. According to the rumors, the NEX-5T will not be too different from the NEX-5R, and thanks to a recently leaked photo, we might have gotten our first glimpse at the NEX-5T. As you can see in  the image above, it looks like an advertisement for the NEX-5T along with a slew of lenses , some of which are new lenses that Sony has yet to announce. Based on the photos, it is also hard to tell that it is the NEX-5T as it does look somewhat similar to the NEX-5R.

According to what we last heard, the NEX-5T will differ from the NEX-5R in the sense that it will sport NFC connectivity, a FN-button control similar to Sony’s SLT cameras, and a new menu interface amongst other things. It is also possible that based on previous rumors that the Sony NEX-5T could be announced towards the end of August which means that we might not have to wait too long to see if the rumors pan out! No word on pricing yet but since it appears that it will not differ too greatly from the NEX-5R, we expect it should be priced somewhat similarly, but do check back with us towards the end of the month for the official details!

    Sony A3000 (ILC-3000) Rumored To Cost £300 For Body-Only

Sony A3000 (ILC 3000) Rumored To Cost £300 For Body OnlyThe other day we reported on rumors that Sony could be looking to launch an entry-level E-mount camera under the A3000 moniker, or ILC-3000 as it could be known in other parts of the world. So how much are we talk about when we mean entry-level? Well according to the folks at Sony Alpha Rumors, they have received a tip in which the A3000 has been revealed to cost around 300 GBP for the body-only, which we have to say isn’t too bad. There will also be a version where it will come bundled with a kit 18-55mm lens but no word on how much that could cost.

So far based on what we know, the A3000 is rumored to sport a 20MP sensor and its design is reminiscent of Sony’s SLT cameras, but instead it will sport Sony’s E-mount and will apparently be the first E-mount camera to not be part of Sony’s NEX lineup of cameras. Additional information has suggested that the EVF of the A3000 will be only 200k, and that it will only sport a contrast AF system versus fast PDAF, but then again this is a camera aimed at beginners, so we guess Sony skipped on the fancy features and focused on price. There is a good chance the A3000 could see an announcement in August/September as per the rumors, so check back with us at a later date for more info!

Rumored Sony A3000 (ILC-3000) To Sport 20MP Sensor

Rumored Sony A3000 (ILC 3000) To Sport 20MP SensorJust the other day we reported that Sony might have a new entry-level E-mount camera in the works that could be announced in August/September. The device at the moment is tentatively known as the A3000, or ILC-3000 as it will be known in other markets. Last we heard it was supposed to be an affordable E-mount camera and would compete against Canon’s REBEL lineup of DSLRs, although that might seem a little weird given that it would be part of Sony’s mirrorless lineup. In any case the folks at Digicaminfo have managed to obtain more information about the upcoming A3000 (ILC-3000) and according to them, the camera is expected to sport a new 20.1MP APS-C sensor.

The device would feature a built-in EVF (electronic viewfinder) and its design would look like one of Sony’s SLT cameras, which might explain why it is part of Sony’s “A” lineup of SLT cameras, even though it’s not supposed to be one. While the camera might have been designed to look like an SLT camera, there is reportedly no SLT technology in it as it will in reality be an E-mount device. In any case we’ll be taking this with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we will be hearing more about it in the coming weeks/month.

Instagram Cracking Down On Apps That Use “Insta” Or “Gram” In Their Names

Instagram Cracking Down On Apps That Use Insta Or Gram In Their NamesWhile Instagram is no doubt a popular app, there are third-party Instagram apps out there who are no doubt trying to capitalize on its success by using “Insta” or “gram” in their names to associate themselves with the app. This practice has been going on for quite a while now and it seems that Instagram is not too thrilled about it and has since updated its brand guidelines that warns its customers and developers not to use terms such as “Instagram”, “IG”, “Insta”, and “Gram” in the app name. It also tells developers to not use logos that are similar to Instagram or use the Instagram stylized font to name their product.

As it stands Instagram has begun sending out emails to apps that they believe to have violated their brand guidelines, and one of them is the Luxogram app who sent the email to TechCrunch. Instagram app for Windows Phone, 6tagram, has also renamed itself to 6tag as per Instagram’s guidelines, according to its developer. Given that Instagram’s parent company, Facebook, has been pretty strict when it comes to cracking down on similar names as well, we guess it was only a matter of time before this practice was passed down to them as well.

Sony ILC-3000 Entry-Level Camera Rumored For 27th August Announcement

Sony ILC 3000 Entry Level Camera Rumored For 27th August AnnouncementSony’s range of NEX cameras have ranged from somewhat affordable to downright expensive, but according to the rumors, it seems that Sony could be looking to announce a new special entry level camera. This is according to the folks at Sony Alpha Rumors who were tipped off to Sony’s new plans and how the company could be unveiling this alleged camera on the 27th of August. At this point in time the device is said to be going under the model number “ILC-3000” which we can’t be sure which family it is part of, but supposedly it will be part of the E-mount family and will be the first device not to use the NEX name.

The rumor goes on to state that the ILC-3000 is expected to take on Canon’s REBEL series of entry-level DSLRs which would be interesting, given that Sony’s E-mount cameras use the mirrorless system. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but given that we’re a little over a week away before Sony allegedly makes their announcement, we guess we might not have to wait too long to find out! So, who else is excited at an entry-level E-mount camera from Sony?
