Our smartphone cameras are getting better with every version that is released. In fact it is safe to say that in some cases, our smartphone cameras have completely replaced the need for a compact digital camera, unless of course the compact camera had features and a level of quality that your smartphone cannot match.

However recently a bunch of scientists have managed to take the Nokia Lumia 1020 and used its camera to see objects that are hidden behind other things. For example objects that it could see through includes frosted glass, onion skin, and even chicken breast! (more…)

Back in February, Google announced a new project that they were working on called Project Tango. The project was basically a smartphone that came with a pretty interesting camera that would be able to scan its surroundings in 3D, thus allowing it to use the captured data to generate 3D maps and virtual environments.

This might come in handy for those who are planning on renovating their homes or buying new furniture and they need to have a 3D model in order to better visualize what’s going on, and how much space that they might have to work with. (more…)

Apple’s iPhones have typically been known for their cameras and for the ability to capture great photos. Obviously one cannot compare iPhone photos to that of a proper camera, but as far as smartphone cameras are concerned, they are surprisingly pretty good.

Of course there are certain areas in which Apple is lacking, such as optical image stabilization and low-light photography, just to name a few areas in which their competitors are beating them in. When it comes to Instagram, the app and social network is typically known for its users posting selfies and food photos followed by lots and lots and lots of (unnecessary) hashtags. However it seems that Instagram can be used to make money, assuming that one knows what they’re doing, of course.

Well evidently photography Daniel Arnold knows what he is doing because in a recent report by Forbes, they revealed that Arnold had actually managed to rack up $15,000 a day by selling his Instagram prints! As Arnold has posted images on his Instagram account, he decided to one day start selling his prints at $150 each. (more…)

Back in October 2013, Sony officially announced a couple of new cameras in the form of the Sony A7 and the A7r. What made these cameras so unique is that they not only use Sony’s E-mount lenses, but they’re compact, and they also came with full-frame sensors, truly making this a unique device and one for the professional who wanted something a little more portable.

However it seems that not too long after the launch of the camera that A7 and A7r users started to complain that their cameras experienced light leaks around the lens mount area. According to New Camera, one of the ways to test if your camera is experiencing light leaks is to put on the lens cap, shine a flash light around the lens mount, and snap a photo. (more…)
