Canon Doesn’t See Smartphones As The Enemy

Canon Doesnt See Smartphones As The EnemySmartphones are ubiquitous nowadays. Just about everyone has them. Heck, even kids these days are packing some pretty high-end smartphones themselves! That being said, it also means that everyone now has a camera on them compared to before where you’d actually have to buy a camera if you wanted to take photos.

So what does this mean for camera manufacturers? Nikon had previously stated that due to smartphones becoming more common, they’ve started to work on projects that would change the concept of cameras. But what about Canon? In a recent interview with DPreview, Canon’s Managing Director and Chief Executive, Image Communication Products Operations, Masaya Maeda, doesn’t appear too fazed. (more…)

Fujifilm UK Launches Camera Customization Service

Fujifilm UK Launches Camera Customization ServiceWhen it comes to cameras, for the most part they tend to look pretty boring. They usually come in black, brown, or silver finishes which usually gives off a very somber look, unless you’re talking about Lomo cameras in which it’s a whole different story.

In some way cameras can be thought of as a fashion accessory, especially if you were to sling it around your neck. Now the good news is that if you were sick of cameras looking so dull and boring, Fujifilm UK has launched a new customization service for Fuji X cameras that allows photographers to customize how their cameras look. Canon EOS M2 Will Be Arriving To The US

Canon EOS M2 Will Be Arriving To The USBack in 2013, Canon announced the EOS M2. The camera is the successor to the EOS M, Canon’s first attempt at going mirrorless, which safe to say left a lot to be desired, some of which was addressed in the EOS M2, namely its autofocus system.

In any case while the camera was announced, it seems that the device was limited to Japan at that time, leaving many wondering if Canon had plans to ever bring it to the US or Europe for that matter. Well the good news is that yes, Canon will be bringing it to the US although there is no word on when that will be. (more…)

Nikon Offering Free Cleaning And Shutter Replacements For D600 Users

Nikon Offering Free Cleaning And Shutter Replacements For D600 UsersWhen the Nikon D600 was launched, it was shortly after that photographers started to notice that there were dust and oil spots on its sensor. Naturally this did not sit well with many photographers. After all they paid good money for a product only to find out that it has this issue. Of course getting the sensor cleaned isn’t a problem, but it can be a tedious and expensive process, especially if one has to keep at it multiple times.

Well the good news is that after having a class-action lawsuit filed against them over this issue, Nikon has since issued a statement on its website in which they are basically offering Nikon D600 customers free cleaning, free shutter replacements, and free shipping to get the problem fixed. But wait, the Nikon D600 is kind of old, what if your warranty has expired? (more…)

Canon Is Not A Fan Of Retro Designed Cameras

Canon Is Not A Fan Of Retro Designed CamerasAs you might have realized, nowadays there seems to be a trend in which camera manufacturers have designed their products to look retro (like Olympus, Fujifilm, and Panasonic, just to name a few), like how cameras would have looked like back in the day. This is not a bad thing as it does offer up a change of pace from the usual camera designs, but if there is one camera manufacturer who has opted not to follow the trend, it would be Canon. In fact Canon’s disdain for the design of such cameras has become pretty apparent when the company recently published a PDF titled, “Story of the PowerShot G1 X Mark II Development”.

In case the title wasn’t obvious, the PDF basically describes how Canon came about designing the look of the company’s latest camera, the Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II. However within the brochure, there was one paragraph that was spotted by the.me that stood out from the rest. “Currently there is a trend towards designing premium compact cameras like classic cameras. However, Canon has kept its distance from this trend. As a result, the design is not pretentious, and it also does not look like a so-called compact camera, and achieves a great balance between traditional and new.” Based on this paragraph, it seems that Canon is not overly fond of such designs meaning that if you were hoping for a retro-looking Canon camera in the future, your best bet would be a second-hand camera shop.

Nikon D4S Could Be Announced On 25th Feb

Nikon D4S Could Be Announced On 25th FebDuring CES 2014, Nikon sort of unveiled the Nikon D4S. The camera was put on display but unfortunately apart from making a token appearance, not much else was known about the camera whose details were reportedly saved for a later date. Now the question is, when will photographers be able to learn more about the Nikon D4S? Well the good news is that you might not have to wait much longer, thanks to reports which has suggested that Nikon will be making an official announcement come the 25th of February.

According to Nikon Rumors, they state that the announcement will also take place on the 27th of February for certain countries as well. We’re not sure why there might be separate press events, but we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled. Many had initially believed the Nikon D4S would be announced at CP+ which took place last week. With CP+ being one of the larger photography-related exhibitions around, it is understandable that Nikon would want to take the opportunity to make their announcement, but as it turns out that wasn’t the case. In any case check back with us on the 25th of February to see if these rumors pan out.
